Having cared for my late husband of 44 years through 10 years of Alzheimers; even 11 years since he was gone, this still brought tears to my eyes.

Remembering a gracious lady who lived for her husband’s legacy and never tarnished it after he passed.

It brought tears to all of our eyes, she was so looking forward to their memories together during their golden years and the illness stole this from them!!! VERY SAD indeed!!!

OK, point taken. But ...far fewer on here, and the comments are booed down or deleted.

Such a classy First Lady, who put up with a LOT of garbage from the completely leftist media back in the 1980s.

Nancy is with her Ronnie now... God bless and Rest in Peace, Nancy and Ronald Reagan.

I had to really search to find the Nancy Reagan thread.

My first thought was, she is with her beloved Ronnie. RIP. She made him so happy and for that I thank her. That was a true, palpable love they had. I believe there is a book of his love letters for her.

I can’t get out of my mind her caressing his casket before they laid him to rest.

This letter brought tears to my eyes as well. It must have been difficult to care for your husband for ten years. Sometimes I wish we could get a sneak peek of our loved ones in heaven.

We just completed caring for Dad for seven. It’s such a slow path that never goes up, only down. We lay him to rest tomorrow. Suddenly the last seven years where he slowly became a child, then toddler, then infant again are gone. As I look through the photos I just remember the strong, powerful man my dad was. I’m sure once her Ronnie passed, she focused on how he was when he was himself, too.

Sad day. She did a good job as a wife and First Lady. She and the President were genuinely in love, and it was nice to see. RIP.

I’m sorry about the passing of your father. It is so hard to see loved ones suffer and fade away. A friend of ours who lost his beloved sister recently, said he just wished she could make one phone call to tell him everything was okay. :)

Even though there were about 4 years where he could not remember more than 15 seconds, I didn’t let that stop us. I have been into therapeutic nutrition for many years, so made sure he had supplements to maintain his physical health as long as possible. We built a small cabin on our plot in the country. We had no electricity. On a 2 x 8 board I would start a cut and he would then complete the cutting where I showed him. I would have him hold a board in place while I started to sink the #16 or #20 nail into the support. Then I would hand him the hammer and he would finish the nailing process. He loved to work, and would do any job that was a continuous process—sawing, sweeping, mowing, so long as there was no interval of change over 10 seconds. Although in the last 2 years he could not really talk, or could only answer a simple yes or no to questions, he still had his emotional reactions. About a year before his death we were watching a news program together. A politician he didn’t like was making outrageous statements and suddenly he shouted “BULLSXXT”. I smiled, patted his hand and said, “I agree.” He smiled back.
