Agreed
I was beginning to believe I must not be a very good conservative because I refused to buy into the "a good conservative eats their own" meme.
Undoubtedly, many here will have their litmus test, and by their standards most if not all candidates will fail. As you say Jim . . . its about stopping the liberals/progressives/marxist/socialist/communist or whatever new name or brand they come up with next.
I would tend to agree with you. I think Cruz will struggle in the general as I don’t know if he has the charisma and crossover appeal. I would support him, though.
(sap looks at the big clump of mud in his hand...then gently releases it to the ground)
(grabs the Trumpster in his right arm, and the Cruzer in his left arm - not to imply Ted is a leftlist)
(they let it all out in a three minute sob)
Sap: “Ok enough of this touchy feely stuff, even if it gets us the gay vote.”
Trump: “Ted, you have a light for my torch?”
Ted: “Sure Donnie.”
Ted: “Donnie, can you loan me 20 bucks for a new pitchfork? Somebody stole my current one. Oh, wait, make that 50 bucks for a ‘made-in-America’ pitchfork.”
Donald: “Here you go, yah yah it’s a 100 dollar bill but’s that’s all I carry these days. It’s worth it to save Americans’ jobs.”
Sap: “I luv you guys...(eyes water).”
Thanks, Jim.
I can only hope...

In a revolutionary epoch, sometimes men taste every novelty, sicken of them all, and return to ancient principles so long disused that they seem refreshingly hearty when they are rediscovered.

YES!! Thank you for reminding us all, Jim.
An end to the traditional (and suicidal) Circular Firing Squad that too often characterizes the right.
You're absolutely correct -- we're among friends here. That's certainly why I'm here.
God Bless you and Free Republic, and God Bless Our Beloved America!

All the remaining candidates, even Kasich and Rubio, are immeasurably superior to Hillary Clinton.
I have no problem with Cruz or Trump. No one is perfect. Either one of them will need their feet held to the fire. I wish everyone here would chill out and realize we’re all on the same team. God Bless.
Amen and thank you.
I’ll give you this.. If trump stays the course on where he stands yes I will. If he starts moving left (and I hate to say it, I am seeing a bit of this)... He might get to far left for me to vote for..
I am kinda sick of holding my nose and voting for a slower death of my country.

It kind of started when someone on one of the networks referred to “FreepRublic that website run by that Jim Thompson guy” getting Jim Robinson’s name wrong while trying to appear “in-the-know.”
So with B-Chan’s stirring call for all of us to take the position like the movie and say, “ I am Spartacus” using the Thompson name. Then to prove how virile Jim Thompson was someone came up with the picture that “TheOldLady” uses at post#43 on that thread and when the name comes up we generally see that picture.
We occasionally tell Jim that he looks a lot like that guy but I don’t think he is buying it.
Best regards to the unreconstructed monarchist B-Chan where ever you are these days.
I posted on another thread in this same general vane a few minutes ago, you’re not the only one trying to get people to be civil.
Myself, I’ve always tried to do that, I never use any of the pet names for any of the candidates, I don’t think I’ve ever been insulting to anyone here or any other forum, that’s just the way I prefer to do things.
In some cases, I Just stay out of the discussion, rather then jumping in the mud with them if it looks like a bunch of 4th graders arguing over a sandlot baseball game.
A little off topic, I’m listening to primary results, Trump just did his press conference, one of the first things he did was congratulate Cruz for his wins. Once again he shows class. I haven’t seen anyone else do that, unless I missed it when Cruz was speaking.
Both have their faults, but I’ll vote for either one to keep Hillary out of the White House. Hell, I’d vote for anybody not named Jeb or Marco...I just can’t stand either of those two...
Judging from the tone of posts following today’s results, I have to suggest that the only way you will restore a semblance of civility on the forum is by cleaning out the worst of the slaggers, trolls, and provocateurs on both sides. This is something I think has to be done even if I turn out to be one of those affected. Maybe two or three month suspensions for those the moderators feel are out of bound a lor of the tine.
I fear there won’t be voluntary compliance.
I really hope so. The thought of another Clinton makes me physically ill.
To (mis)quote Spike Jones: “We HEIL! HEIL! Right in der Hillary’s face!” :-P
Jim,
Can will still make fun of Jeb and Rubio? ...and maybe Kasich?
I mean, his father was a mailman!
