Romney hints he'll endorse 'one of those guys'

A day after his public attack on Republican front-runner Donald Trump, former presidential candidate Mitt Romney hinted that he might soon endorse one of Trump's rivals.

"There's no question I'm going to do everything within the normal political bounds to make sure we don't nominate Donald Trump," the former Massachusetts governor said on NBC's "Today" show Friday morning. "After March 15, I think you'll see it narrow down."

"I wouldn't be surprised if I endorse one of those guys," he added.

CNN reported Thursday that Romney has asked his team to explore how he might block Trump from being nominated at the Republican convention later this year. But Romney didn't address those efforts on the "Today" show.

But he did repeat that he is not interested in running himself for the nomination.

"No, no, the people who can save this party are Ted Cruz, Marco Rubio or John Kasich," he said. "There are no circumstances I can foresee where that would possibly happen."

When asked how he'd vote if it came down to Trump versus Hillary Clinton, Romney said he wouldn't vote for either.

"I wouldn't vote for Donald Trump and I wouldn't vote for Hillary Clinton. I intend to vote for our nominee," Romney said.

Kiss of death. I think he’ll endorse Cruz.

There is a good (at least 1 out of 3) chance of this. The race is changing from establishment vs. anti-establishment to Trump vs. anti-Trump. Not good for Cruz, since he is now nothing more than just 1 out of the aforementioned 3.

Probably Rubio or Kasich. My bet is on Rubio since Kasich really doesn’t have a shot. Romney will wait until after the March 15 primaries.

"I wouldn't vote for Donald Trump and I wouldn't vote for Hillary Clinton. I intend to vote for our nominee," Romney said, "See, we have control of certain Diebold electronic voting machines. This will keep Trump below the numbers we need to get a brokered convention. From there, it will be a simple deal to steal it from him."

His decision-making ability is like a box of chocolates.

Just like the crucial, so important, make or break Jeb Bush endorsement, the nation waits anxiously for the Mitt Romney endorsement - NOT!

Classy. Way to return the favor there, Mitt.

What a waste of vote you and the GOP turned out to be.

I’m betting he will endorse Little Marco. After all, Rubio is the establishment pick.

..the speech was a Plan C testing of the waters for a possible brokered convention candidacy IMO. It was a trial balloon—and it flew like the Hindenburg in NJ...

Bingo.......

Thank you too much, Romney. Your endorsement is about as useful to any authentic Republican candidate as would an endorsement by Miley Cyrus of feminine hygiene products.

My money's on Pretty Boy. They obviously have the same speech writer and I now consider Pretty Boy to be Mitt's puppet.

The saddest part of this little drama is that Cruz supporters are all in on Mitt's shady plans.

Mitt Romney and the rest of the establishment would screw Ted Cruz over in a heartbeat if they were actually successful in derailing Trump.

Ted has missed his only chance at securing the nomination. Had he stood up at that debate, he could have said that he respected the will of the voters and wants no part of establishment dirty deals and trickery. He pledges that, if he is not the delegate leader, he will direct his delegates to support the frontrunner on the second ballot.

He would have won over many voters who are disgusted by Mitt Romney's shenanigans, and he would have become the only logical place for the "nevertrump" vote to coalesce.

Would it have been successful? I don't know. But does anyone think the establishment is going to treat him favorably once this is all over? Get real.

Mitt opened his trap too soon. If he really dislikes Trump as much as he says (good!), he should have come out and endorsed Trump. It’s the quickest way to destroy a candidate...we’re fortunate that Mitt can’t think more than one move at a time. Mitt’s endorsement of any of the others is a yuge positive for DJT.
