Republican front-runner Donald Trump on Thursday said he would rip up all existing free trade agreements if he wins the White House.
Trump argued that he would greatly improve U.S. relationships with nations such as Mexico and China while lowering trade deficits.
"Im going to rip up those trade deals and were going to make really good ones, he said during a campaign stop in Portland, Maine.
He lashed out at 2012 GOP nominee Mitt Romney for saying that a Trump presidency would ruin free trade for the United States.
Ruin free trade? Trump said. "If Im losing $505 billion with China, if Im losing $58 billion a year with Mexico, in terms of deficit, why do I want that kind of trade for anyway," Trump said.
"Ruin it? Who needs that kind of trade, seriously who needs that kind of trade, Trump said.
Earlier in the day, Romney called Trump a fraud and ripped him for his lack of policy proposals.
The trade deficit with China last year soared to $365.7 billion, well below Trump's $505 billion, and was $58.3 billion with Mexico, according to Commerce Department figures.
We will actually have better relationships with Mexico and better relationships with China, theyll respect us, Trump said.
They dont respect us now. They think were the dumbest people on earth led by the worlds dumbest people," he said.

And I assume we would want to sell in their market as well. But even so, why should they trust that Trump won't rip up the next one?
Trump is going to make sure America gets a good deal and then he will sign it and keep it.
How will he force the other countries to sign the deals if it's bad for them?
We to enforce the constitution not surrender.
Pretty much.
Low tariffed trade isn’t bad. Protectionism is bad. But it’s possible to manage trade tariffs where everyone except the middleman is happy.
Globalism has crushed the American middle class.
The real funny part is that if you think that Trump’s army will vote for anyone else if Trump has the nomination stolen from him , you are sadly mistaken ...
I think they will.
Notice Trump never gives you a source for those trade deficit numbers? And he never tells you exactly why.
To me, $58 billion a year with Mexico seems low given they are our second largest source of foreign oil. Canada is number one.
At $50 a barrel, that’s just shy of 1.2 billion barrels a year. We consume closer to 7 billion a year.
So okay, what is Trump going to do? Take it? Quit buying it? Allow more drilling here? What about the lawsuits that the enviro-wackos file? Is he going to ask Congress to limit the prevue of the courts so states can lease to drill and push the EPA out?
Frankly, I don’t think so. But I also now believe no one would.
We are so far into the crap it’s hard to see a way out.
Wrong ...good luck with that , it won’t happen ...Trump or bust , the GOPe wants that
These two leech nations have sucked us dry and dumped there uneducated losers on us.
We had Enough !
Stand up for your country for a change
Lots of people sign bad deals. More specifically lots of people signed deals with Trump and came out on the short end. As long as they think it's good they will sign.
You time destroying this country with insane crony capitalist trade agreements is over .
I think they will walk out.
I wonder when Trump will learn we don’t have a trade agreement with China.
ASAP!
If you read “the art of the deal” this is what Donald Trump calls an opening position. It should be deliberately high so that when it gets watered down, you still look like a winner.
China has “most favored nation status”. I’ll be happy if Trump abrogates this..
.... I'm sure we can get better Deals than we have ....
Right after he shows us the Unicorns that have been hiding in Area 51.
Trump ... the modern day Sherman’s March but it’s not just the South that will suffer ... it will be all of us.
