Donald Trump released his health care plan Wednesday evening, finally detailing the way in which he would fulfill his campaign trail promise to repeal and replace Obamacare.
In a seven-point plan posted to his website and publicized by a tweet, Trump says he will do away with the individual health insurance mandate, as well as allow competition over states lines for health care plans, and block grant Medicaid to the states, allowing them to follow through on his prescription to "eliminate fraud, waste and abuse to preserve our precious resources."
The decision to go against the idea of an individual mandate is new for Trump, who told CNN during a February town hall before the South Carolina primary that he "likes the mandate" and that makes him "a little bit different" than other conservatives.
But Wednesday's plan outlines as the first point on the list: "Our elected representatives must eliminate the individual mandate. No person should be required to buy insurance unless he or she wants to."
He counters that, however, by saying individuals should be allowed to "fully deduct health insurance premium payments from their tax returns."
The third bullet point goes on to say that "we must make sure no one slips through the cracks simply because they cannot afford insurance" and that "we must review basic options for Medicaid and work with states to ensure that those who want healthcare coverage can have it."
Further, Trump ties illegal immigration to his healthcare plan, writing "providing healthcare to illegal immigrants costs us some $11 billion annually ... If we were to simply enforce the current immigration laws and restrict the unbridled granting of visas to this country,

I don’t think the GOP can withstand pressure from their base if Trump leverages that against them. Trump clearly understands leverage - just look at how much he’s changed the conversation on immigration, for example. And if he didn’t know how to get people to work with him, he’d never get anything built.
Your comment about coat tails is spot on, however. As I complained above, there’s dang little info. out there about what’s going on in Congressional primaries. The TEA Party seems to have vanished. I tried to search for articles about the primary my Rep. is in, online, and found NOTHING. Zip. Nada. Zero. I don’t even know if he (looked hopeful, has been total RINO) even has an opponent. There’s only a web page up that says (paraphrasal) “we are looking for an opponent” that is apparently is unminded / has not been updated for some time.)
Now, Cruz is hugely better on Constitutional issues / concerns. No question. He has a big political organization to aid him. But I see no evidence he’s ever accomplished anything as an executive, most of his colleagues hate him, and, to tell you the truth, when he gets worked up, he’s more annoying to listen to than an angry cat. We are starting to see and hear his ads, here, and Cruz just simply comes across as a mean, angry person. I guess that appeals to some people.
Trump, on the other hand, seems to be building support, even on FR. (See the FR Caucus trends.) Cruz spouts the Constitution, and Trump spouts jobs. Who’s going to win that one?

Do you really think your copay covers the cost of your visit?
To: aquila48
Yes, something like that. Heck, deductibles for silver plans are so high now, and coverage so limited, that they are really only catastrophic plans anyway...
Also, we have to get to work on more health care competition, because if typical per-year health care costs can’t be brought down, average wage earners are still in deep doo-doo.

Oh and the maximum I am allowed to save in a tax free account is $6500. Just a point of clarification, if you have a HDHP and an HSA, the max you and or your employer can contribute tax free annually is $3,350 for individual coverage and $6,650 for family coverage and an additional $1,000 if you are 55 or older. However, HSA funds roll over from year to year and you and or your employer can contribute the max annual contribution each and every year. There is no maximum or tax penalty on the amount of money saved in your HSA as long as you do not exceed the annual contribution limits.
I would however like to see those annual limits greatly increased but note that this is not specified in Trumps plan.
So you already have a HSA and now Trump is promising to let you have an HSA.
Pretty much. See my post at:
http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/news/3404459/posts?page=267#267
where I outline how nothing I see outlined in Trumps healthcare plan changes anything regarding what is already in place with respect to HSAs and what IMO should have been included.

I have NOT seen ANY detailed position papers from Bernie, Hillary, or any of the other GOPe candidates...

RE: I have NOT seen ANY detailed position papers from Bernie, Hillary, or any of the other GOPe candidates...
Hillary and Bernie Sanders have one position — GOVERNMENT RUN HEALTHCARE.
As for Hillary, she had a detailed position — the one she secretly drafted with a committee under Bill Clinton in 1993 ( the one that caused the Democrats to lose both houses of Congress ). It was then called Hillarycare.

yeah I guess to an extent, I am just amazed because there are a large group of Freepers that seem to believe that mortgage interest deductions should go and that anyone on SS is leaching off those still working. I guess what really blows my mind is the double standard that has been running rampant on FR for the last couple of months and intolerance for those that don’t hold the same exact opinion.

1 Well, ObamaCare forced everyone to get insurance, and prices (especially in relation to benefits) skyrocketed. Maybe this isnt working the way many theorize. No doubt. But parts of Obamacare - the pre-existing coverage issue and the ability to carry children on a policy longer - are very popular Obamacare mandates. Trump spoke of keeping the pre-existing condition clause in his Terrificcare. But now that he's released the details I'm surprised that neither one was included.
5. Where does the govt provide this, and what good does it do for the govt to post some list on a website no one knows about...
It's available here. I'm not aware that the government has to provide "Google 101" lessons for people. It's been available for a couple of years and I remember hearing about it on the news.
Now, I realize there are lots of complications (see post earlier from a doctor), but, good Lord, this is 2016. Plug the insurance card info. into a computer, plug in the test or procedure, and at least get a price range or order of magnitude that can be required of the provider to give to the patient up front.
It'd be nice. So who is going to fund the system and pay to maintain it?
One more. 4 Almost no one knows about the freaking HSAs, either. Require providers to provide information on them (waiting for the Doc would be a great time to read up!), and promote them through PSAs and online. (No, I know Trumps plan does not detail this, but it should be added. At least he mentions HSAs in a document many will read.
Again, it's the government's responsibility to make sure people know all this? Or has personal responsibility gone by the boards. You[re complaint seems to be more that the information isn't available but that someone isn't doing the work for you.
As I see it, theres no way to back out of the Govt-in-health care debacle, 100%, in even 20 years. If we can go that direction and get 80% of the way out, in 10 years, Id consider it a miracle.
The longer it is delayed the less likely anything will be replaced much less repealed, in whole or in part.

Why doesn’t the press pester Hillary, Sanders, and the GOPe shills for position papers?
I’ll tell you why...
Because the press doesn’t give a damn out their positions, they just want to use the issue to batter Trump.

His 7-point program looks like a good start!

"The idea is to negotiate in our best interest. Convince the other guy to move our way"
So how does Trump define "our best interest"?
Who are the "our" in the "Convince the other guy to move 'our' way?
Is the "our", Trump and conservatives moving "others" to the right?
Or is the "our" Trump, Harry Reid, and Nancy Pelosi moving "others" to the left?
Trump has promised to make deals with Reid and Pelosi. Have they ever backed anything beneficial?
Maybe I've missed something?
You mentioned Ronald Reagan-He was firmly grounded in Constitutional principles.
Is Trump?
I get that people are angry and that the GOPe is the cause of ALL of it.
I am beyond angry at them too, and I will vote for Trump if he's the nominee, but, I honestly don't see where a Trump presidency would be that much different than any other moderate presidency we've had.
Trump is not a conservative.
How is electing someone who is clearly not a conservative, going to change anything in the long run?
We have a tried and true conservative in Ted Cruz.
Why are people throwing away their chance to elect someone who has been fighting for conservatives his whole life- to vote for someone who is not conservative?
I don't get it.

This year my Kaiser Permanente went up $14 per month, but my SS stayed the same. So that’s $168 I have to get from somewhere. Since I rarely drive lower gas costs only save me about $30 a year. I only need one older med that has stayed the same, but I feel sorry for the poor folks who are subsidizing pharmaceutical CEOs making $20,000,000 and more. Last I heard the profit margin for drug companies was around 20% whereas most other commercial ventures have profit margins of 3 to 7%. As to $3 to $5 copays, what about the $3 to $5 hospital charges for an aspirin.

He never said he supports Rubio....he said Rubio would be better than Trump.
And Donald said Hillary was better than Ted. Hillary is anti-wall. Does that mean Donald is?? That’s how your logic sounds.
And it wasn’t just a few weeks ago that Ted was talking about securing the border....he has been talking about it for years.... since back when Don was donating to open border Democrats.
What pronouncement has Cruz made that he hasn’t backed up?? He was instrumental in stopping the Gang of 8 bill.... one reason was because he tried to add a bill insisting they secure the border...
And 22 hours on the Senate floor opposing Obamacare?? What more can he do??
And how the heck is Cruz a globalist when he fought against a sitting U.S. President in the Supreme Court for the Sovereignty of the U.S. and WON???
And an open mind as events evolve??? are you kidding me??? Yea, see my candidate doesn’t constantly “evolve”.... he’s the same all the time...has he ever been wrong and self corrected in a better direction? Sure... once or twice, but with Donald...well, YOU NEVER KNOW where he’ll be on any particular issue from day to day....He is completely unpredictable...
Newt Gingrich called him a “gamble”. He nailed it...

Saying Rubio would be better than Trump is WORSE than saying he’d vote for Rubio if he’s the nominee. Cruz is saying that he’d prefer a candidate who wouldn’t build the wall!

Point is, my deductible used to be less than my annual max. Now it is more so unless my family stays consistently healthy I get screwed. Meanwhile freeloaders go to the doctor whenever they want.
