Donald Trump released his health care plan Wednesday evening, finally detailing the way in which he would fulfill his campaign trail promise to repeal and replace Obamacare.
In a seven-point plan posted to his website and publicized by a tweet, Trump says he will do away with the individual health insurance mandate, as well as allow competition over states lines for health care plans, and block grant Medicaid to the states, allowing them to follow through on his prescription to "eliminate fraud, waste and abuse to preserve our precious resources."
The decision to go against the idea of an individual mandate is new for Trump, who told CNN during a February town hall before the South Carolina primary that he "likes the mandate" and that makes him "a little bit different" than other conservatives.
But Wednesday's plan outlines as the first point on the list: "Our elected representatives must eliminate the individual mandate. No person should be required to buy insurance unless he or she wants to."
He counters that, however, by saying individuals should be allowed to "fully deduct health insurance premium payments from their tax returns."
The third bullet point goes on to say that "we must make sure no one slips through the cracks simply because they cannot afford insurance" and that "we must review basic options for Medicaid and work with states to ensure that those who want healthcare coverage can have it."
Further, Trump ties illegal immigration to his healthcare plan, writing "providing healthcare to illegal immigrants costs us some $11 billion annually ... If we were to simply enforce the current immigration laws and restrict the unbridled granting of visas to this country,

I heard him on accounting for pre-existing conditions. Haven’t seen it in writing, though.

Looks like they'll probably make a deal to create a pool for pre-existing. That's not in the plan.

No, hes a capitalist not a leftist. Big difference. So being a capitalist would be completely inconsistent with being a leftist?
Warren Buffett. George Soros. Jeff Bezos. Bill Gates. They can't be leftists because they are all capitalists. Who knew?

Why isnt anyone talking about tort reform? About half the states have enacted some sort of tort reform capping damages in malpractice suits. While there is evidence that it has reduced malpractice insurance premiums there in no evidence that it's reduced healthcare costs in any of the states.

Prior to and during the 0bamacare runup, I was driving around the area here and noticed that there was a HUGE spot that was earmarked for a health complex, including elder care, pet care, PT, and clinics. Around that was another HUGE set of areas earmarked for houses and condos. Interspersed were building for outlying campuses/campi for universities.
I decided that the health care ‘debate’ was a fraud and that this was planned.
Inside 50 miles around here, after 0bamacare came in, the ONLY big building projects I saw were at hospitals. Those projects themselves were also BIG, to the point of amazing. I’d not seen building like that around hospitals for decades.
My point is that pharma isn’t going to give up everything it’s gotten without a fight. Medical and finance are the two private industries that have fared well under 0bama.

Health care/insurance should never have been tied to employment. A lot of businesses don't provide it. But regardless, isn't that something for businesses to decide and not government?

And there’s a problem with that?

Nice big donation button on Trumps site. Two of them. One at the top and one around the middle.

You would think the media would know this, they've shown his stump speeches on live TV nearly every day for six months. Market based reforms, repeal Obamacare, erase the state boundaries restricting the free market from lowering costs, etc. etc. etc. At least one of those "etc. etc. etc." is missing from the written plan. Pre-existing condition coverage.

Why would Trump have to deal with Pelosi & friends if he has a Republican Congress? Lol!
The GOP hates him and he hates them. He's not going to get a lot of cooperation from people he has been mocking and insulting. Plus, what kind of coat tails will he have?
If he gets cooperation from the GOPe then we are going to continue down the same path. If he goes to the other side, then we are going to sprint down the same path. Unless he resorts to his pen and his phone, he's going to have to play ball with the same people he has turned against him. I just wish he was a constitutional conservative. But he isn't. I don't think he has ever bothered to study the document.

Isn’t China considered very capitalistic?
I know, it seems weird, but I’m pretty sure their economy falls under that’s category... probably more so than the U.S.?
I’m not an expert though...

I thought he planned on raising taxes? No?
Also, didn’t they question him at the SC debate about his plans and said they’d cost trillions? And he responded with something about how we’re gonna have so many jobs the economy would boom....but he never denied the number she through out there?
I really am not sure and he may changed his mind about the taxes thing....

It would be nice to hear Donald Trump actually say these things. Unfortunately though, what Donald Trump actually says contradicts what his website says.

‘The government has no business being in the health insurance business. I dont care how good the plan is.’
There are two ways to handle a broken car ...
1. Crush it in the compactor.
2. Fix it.
The VOTER does not want to crush this car in the compactor. You and I could see the virtue in ‘cold turkey’ free market restoration, but there is so much public pressure to keep some kind of healthcare safety net for the poor that there WILL be a safety net.
So who is the Don Quixoti who is campaigning to let people die in the streets? I can’t find one at the moment.

The government has no business being in the health insurance business. I agree with you 1000%, but unfortunately the government has been in it since Medicare was started.
I keep saying the progressives have been at this for a 100 years plus, no one man is going to totally reverse this course in one term.
It will take us many generations to turn this country around, we need to do it step by step as they did, this is a start.

That’s ridiculous and like saying “people who eat meat” gave us obamacare. So you’re blaming obamacare on everyone who eats meat?
That’s how much sense that makes.
Plenty of lawyers railed against Obamacare also. FYI

There is a third alternative; make it worse. If it can’t be fixed then I’d rather crush it than make it worse.

‘I do not get how any honest conservative can seriously consider this liberal as our nominee for President...’
It’s funny because in the post right above you, eartick pointed out that the Trump plan is very similar to the Cruz healthcare plan.
What should we do? ‘Write-in vote’ for Harding?
