Lindsey Graham: GOP may have to rally around Ted Cruz
The Hill ^ | 3/1/2016 | Harper Neidig

Posted on 03/01/2016 11:54:05 PM PST by lodi90

Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.) says the Republican Party may be forced to support presidential hopeful Ted Cruz in order to stop front-runner Donald Trump.

"You know Ted Cruz is not my favorite, by any means,” Graham, who dropped his own bid for the White House in December, said in an interview with CBS. “But we may be in a position where we have to rally around Ted Cruz as the only way to stop Donald Trump, and I'm not so sure that would work.” His comments came with Super Tuesday results indicating Trump would win as many as eight states. They also came a week after Graham joked, “If you killed Ted Cruz on the floor of the Senate, and the trial was in the Senate, nobody could convict you.”

Graham has been a tough critic of both Trump or Cruz. He once said that choosing between the two would be "like being shot or poisoned. I think you get the same result, whether it's quick or it takes a long time."

For the record re: Trump and PP, he goes on and on about all the good they do. Oh, really? What good? What good do they do that can’t be done for low income clients at any other community medical clinic in towns and cities all over the country? Oh, I get it...must be the abortions.

He should do like Ted and release the first two pages. Wonder what Ted is hiding. Perhaps it might be donations from his corporate paymasters.

“Yes, I agree - ther is a bit of a difference. An actual endorsement celebrated with huge huzzahs here on TrumpRepublic from a RINO leader of the National Governor’s Association vs. a feigned “endorsement” from a back-bench lawmaker whose biggest accomplishment in the Senate has been to hold John McCain’s colostomy bag.”

You are just being obtuse to make a snarky partisan point instead of seeing what is happening in front of you.

Well go ahead and pretend like it isnt a big deal.

This morning there were more than a few of you from CruzRepublic that were giddy at the idea of the GOPe/Rubio possibly joining up with Cruz to “win”.

One of you said it this way:

“Desperate times calls for desperate measures”.

“Real RINO endorsement vs. phony joke/insult endorsement”

Cant wait for Mr. Outsider to let his sycophants in on the fact that he is ready to sell-out to the GOPE. Because it is the ONLY plan to “stop Trump”.

“They smelled his BS a mile away because Cruz is one of them.”

I agree. And I think this is what galls them. It’s a personal dislike of Cruz. They wouldn’t mind his hypocrisy if he joined their club, but to go it alone and publicly criticize them when he’s no different than they are has earned him their anger - which suits Cruz just fine, for it helps him to bolster the illusion that he’s an outsider.

He wants Cruz killed or in the white house. What a choice!

The lure of living in the white house, and being the first Hispanic to do so, will make a man get in bed with pigs if that’s what it takes.

Cruz better be aware that they will never let him in the white house. As soon as he accepts their help and they eliminate Trump, Cruz becomes ineligible for being born in Canada.

First of all, this site has been overrun with Trump backers and - astoundingly and contrary to all logic - JimRob and the Admins have been taking that side and have been rather unfair to Cruz supporters.

Second, unlike you and the other Trump boiler room regulars who seemingly comment on EVERY thread 24/7, I don't troll this site all day. I have no clue what any other FR poster said this morning or how gleeful anyone is. And I don't care.

I responded to your post because I found it to be a really dumb and obnoxious comment. No one is being obtuse except you.

I'm happy to continue to dialog with you, but let's leave it to what we each post and not to what you think other posters have said which I haven't read. If you've got a beef with other posters, take it up with them.

But I will acknowledge snarky. I like snarky. I embrace snark. Snark conveys humor, wit and contempt all at the same time.

Geez, I wish we had the old FR back.

“First of all, this site has been overrun with Trump backers...”

Actually it only seems like that because the Cruz crew decided to lose their minds, attack people, go after JimRob, spam the hell out of the site, and openly plot against it.

They were kicked off because they became toxic. Some were let back on, only to then do it all over again, and they have since been permanently zotted.

“I have no clue what any other FR poster said this morning or how gleeful anyone is. And I don’t care.”

Sorry if you dont care, but if you say something that isnt accurate, then those that do know will inform you. For many of us this is our newspaper so YES many of us are here throughout the day. That isn’t “trolling”.

"but if you say something that isnt accurate, then those that do know will inform you."

...says the guy who posted that Cruz has a RINO taint because Cruz gleefully would accept Linda Graham's joke/insult "endorsement".

And I still say, I see your phoney Linda endorsement and I raise you 2 real RINO-filled Krispy Kremes for the Donald (although I might need a crane to do it)!

“Continuing to flog issues the majority of conservatives have decided are not impediments to what Trump offers just means you don’t understand the reasons we lose, even when we win.”

Speak for yourself. You do NOT speak for the majority of conservatives. You may speak for the largest percentage (Trump has not won 50%) of Republican voters, but that does not make you conservative.

Trump is not a conservative. He is running on a conservative platform, asking us to vote for him. I, like many conservatives, have been open from the start.

We conservatives WILL continue to beat the drum and warn that Trump has a liberal track record, including recently. He has talked about how he can work with Pelosi, Reid, and Schumer. He has praised Planned Parenthood.

I am not saying a President Trump will not govern conservatively. I am saying he is a big gamble.

Cruz has a track record of conservatism. I do not wonder about how he will govern.

Interesting. I don’t find the treaty clause busting Corker bill or enabling the secret trade agenda of most lawless, unconstitutional POTUS in history particularly “constitutional.” But I guess whatever floats your boat, FRiend.

FRiend, They (GOPe) didn't allow much revision of the Corker bill did they, Cruz did try you know FReind, if it was allowed I am sure Sessions would of done it. What they were left with was just a pile of crap they couldn't change and as Cruz said, he voted for it because at least it did give some chance of delaying Obama.

Take your Corker and rotate it with some high grade ethanol and while you are at it, own up to Trump's liberal flip-flops which have littered the floor for decades. Still going to end Planned Parenthood or is it still doing great things?

I suspect Lindsey Graham and John McCain get the bulk of their ‘donations’ from military contractors who make billions on the stupidity of the United States government and our stupid endless (and strangely ‘un-won’) wars.

It's the superpacs of McCains and Graham's that are running and financing the attacks on Trump.

There's BIG MONEY on the table against Trump... and there's bigger money to be made in the legal 'graft games' insiders play... Trump's not going to pay for military weapons we don't want and don't need and costs billions. Trump won't accept bribes - oops I mean ‘donations’ from these crooks. That might be where the heat's coming from...

By all accounts there is now definitely enough money on the table to attack Trump. With all the candidates that dropped out there must be Super PAC money floating around. That’s why Koch decided to stay above the fray, IMO.

Maybe Koch is a decent man and he has little taste for betting up common everyday working Republicans.

I haven’t turned on Sessions. I just think that most politicians will lean towards those who they think might be in power. I’m saying he might be sorry he miscalculated and acted too fast.

I also can’t believe you are so disturbed over my use of a simple metaphor. Good grief. i don’t understand why you get so dramatic. From what I’ve seen and heard Sessions has always had only good things to say about Cruz.
