Lindsey Graham: GOP may have to rally around Ted Cruz
The Hill ^ | 3/1/2016 | Harper Neidig

Posted on 03/01/2016 11:54:05 PM PST by lodi90

Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.) says the Republican Party may be forced to support presidential hopeful Ted Cruz in order to stop front-runner Donald Trump.

"You know Ted Cruz is not my favorite, by any means,” Graham, who dropped his own bid for the White House in December, said in an interview with CBS. “But we may be in a position where we have to rally around Ted Cruz as the only way to stop Donald Trump, and I'm not so sure that would work.” His comments came with Super Tuesday results indicating Trump would win as many as eight states. They also came a week after Graham joked, “If you killed Ted Cruz on the floor of the Senate, and the trial was in the Senate, nobody could convict you.”

Graham has been a tough critic of both Trump or Cruz. He once said that choosing between the two would be "like being shot or poisoned. I think you get the same result, whether it's quick or it takes a long time."

Thanks. It’s the only thing that seems to make sense.

“Seems many people automatically think that Southern states and evangelicals are conservative.”

Yeah, they were Cruz supporters until they started losing those states.

Cruz must denounce the endorsement!

If the Grahams & McCains back Cruz in the primary, it would be only to get close enough to stab him in the back in the general election.

Great news, I just wish Linda would keep his begrudging support to himself. If the GOPe unites behind Cruz then Drumpf is dead in the water with his 40%.

And so is Cruz...Cruz couldn't get a single Republican in Congress, conservative or liberal to endorse him in the beginning...And yet you guys expect there will be a herd of Democrats flocking to Cruz in the General election???

Aren't you guys the same crew who are always pushing the GOPe on us like Romney, McCain, Dole, etc???

“If Trump isn’t responsible for David Duke’s endorsement, Cruz isn’t responsible for Linda’s.”

That depends on how he responds.

I’m sure Trump did too but wasn’t some of the nonburger over David Duke the fact that Trump didn’t zip out there at the speed of lightning to denounce it?

Between Kng and Graham, I'm more for Trump than ever - when establishment types need to dump one and save the other in order to save themselves, I want the one they need to dump to win.

Sad to see so many here that agree with King and Graham.....

David Duke never endorsed Trump. That was a lie made up by the Esablishment Media to trash Trump.

The fact that you have loons like Beck endorsing Cruz should give you pause.

Cruz is a fall guy for the Establishment to slip in Mitt Romney to lose the election once again, just like in 2012 to Hitlery the criminal.

There are a lot of mixed signals with Cruz. He portrays himself as an outsider and yet if you look beneath the surface, there are indications that this just isn’t true. On the other hand, until the last couple of weeks, the GOPe have been openly disdainful of Cruz.

How can that all be made to square? One possible explanation is that, while Cruz’s GOPe colleagues dislike him, they don’t dislike him because he’s an outsider, but rather, because, in his ambition, he’s attempted to skirt the GOPe hierarchy and create his own direct path to the establishment donor class.

This angers RINO’s like McConnell and Graham because they know that, while he publicly trashes them, at heart, he’s one of them. So they hate Cruz, not because he threatens the system, but because he seeks to jump to the head of the line without showing them the proper respect they think they deserve.

But when all is said and done, they’ll back Cruz over Trump because they know Trump is the true outsider who is an existential threat to their system.

Exactly my thoughts. I’ve thought since TPA that the GOPe only hate Cruz because he’s a climber that made them potted plants in his beltway theater campaign performances. They smelled his BS a mile away because Cruz is one of them. Ted Cruz was never fighting for us in DC. He was self servingly campaigning for POTUS the entire time he was in inside the beltway.

I’m pretty sure Ted Cruz has bigger fish to fry than your demands.

Ted won’t be disavowing Graham’s endorsement? No surprise.

If Trump isn’t responsible for David Duke’s endorsement, Cruz isn’t responsible for Linda’s.

If memory serves me, it was Ronald Reagan who said of the Log Cabin Republican endorsement, "They endorsed me." Not the other way around.

I’ve read many, many comments from Cruz supporters that trash Trump’s supporters for our committment to “ a man who has been a notorious adulterer”, “a man who’s slept around”, “a man who says he doesn’t need to ask Divine forgiveness”. And I’m not even going to get into the David Duke thing.

So, I’m curious to know how those Cruz supporters feel about Graham’s endorsement.

LOL, how stupid(or more correctly - desperate)do you have to be to actually believe that Light-In-The-Loafers Lindsey would actually back Foghorn Leghorn Cruz for the nomination. That’s downright funny right there!

Read this thread. They’re happy as punch. Win at all costs Cruz will take any support he can get from the GOPe. Senator Principled Conservative has discarded them and they are not coming back. Really sad.
