The South was to be Ted Cruzs springboard to the nomination, his firewall in case the first few contests didnt quite finish off the competition.
After a string of third-place finishes, the boasts are gone. The optimism seems forced. Cruz is now engaged in a long slog, overshadowed by Donald Trump and Marco Rubio and heading into Super Tuesday with dim prospects for retaking control of the Republican presidential race.
-snip-
Cruz offered a far more restrained assessment Saturday as he stumped in the shadow of Georgias gold-domed capitol. The midday rally drew no more than 400 people, even as Rubio packed a stadium a half-hour away in Kennesaw with thousands of cheering supporters.

“huh?? Cruz had control of the presidential race? “
Yeah, how can you “retake” control over something you never “had” control of in the first place?
you were right the first time !
Rubio needs to be stopped and he should be out when he does not do well on ST and loses Florida on 3-15.
Conservatives should then align with an actual conservative-Cruz.
They’re run by the same people
“I was at the Cruz rally and the 400 people turnout is an OUTRIGHT LIE!!!! I imagine it was put out by the Trump or Rubio boot lickers.”
So maybe it was 4,000, who cares? Georgia is going Trump anyway!
Did Cruz at least get a promise of support in exchange for endorsing Rubio ?
Now, though, he's picked up the entire list of GOPe talking points, gotten cozy with Rubio, and made a mockery of several of his own campaign messages in doing so. He's shown that he's not just campaigning, he's answering the GOPe dog whistle that draws the dogs around to protect their corrupt masters in Washington.
Cruz has sealed his own fate by making it obvious that his whole, "I'm an outsider" scam is nothing but hot air.
He fell into Santorum / Huckabee land and garnered the Religious vote, and that only takes you so far. I think he fell into it by accident with his preachy sermons, he needed more Reagan less Falwell, sadly he is probably a good man and lives the good book, and for some of us that is good enough. At the same time that preachy quality is a huge turn off to many like the Conservative Jew I had coffee with this morning. Dang shame the 2 closest to the Constitution, Paul and Cruz will be out shortly, and it will be Putin that can build a High Rise...
That was pretty obvious from his cheating in Iowa. Nobody likes a cheater, thief, liar. I am so proud of the voters for kicking this fraud to the curb. Hopefully the Senate will do the same until voters vote him out in 2018.......I hope so much. He is a disgrace.
Cruz has run one tv ad in Georgia and it was awful
Not if the Dallas Morning News has any say in it

True words
It was terrible. He was acting, and it was so obvious. I’m a tuff-guy blah blah blah. Stupid.
Maybe if he hadn’t shown the world that he’s just another bought and paid for lying hack, things would be going better for him.
I’m embarrassed that I ever supported him
Can’t be...Rubio says he’s got the nomination in the bag.
Cruz: I won in Iowa...
How many people were there?
