Sen. Ted Cruz speculated Sunday that Republican presidential rival Donald Trump might be delaying the release of his tax returns because of possible ties with the mob.
"Maybe it is the case that Donald, there have been multiple media reports about Donald's business dealings with the mob, with the mafia," Cruz said on "Meet the Press."
"Maybe his taxes show those business dealings are a lot more extensive than has been reported," he added.
Cruz repeated the suggestion on ABC's "This Week," seemingly stunning host George Stephanopoulos.
"Business dealings with the mafia?" Stephanopoulos asked, incredulously.

Not so fast.
Trump has been using non-stop innuendo against all the rest of the Republican field since day one. In the quote, Cruz doesn’t state that he is accusing Trump of anything. He “wonders if...” there is anything in Trump’s tax returns that would point to the Mafia connection.
And as someone who has some experience in construction in the tri-state area, it would be highly unusual for anything to get built without the participation of the mob.
Just sayin’.
Cruz is very slowly strangling his campaign to death. You can almost hear the “Death Rattle” from across the country!
The public as a whole is dumb as a box of rocks. Most of us are, fortunately, honest and good hearted enough. But nonsense attacks actually WORK! The number of votes lost by making a nonsense attack is close to zero, and there is a huge pool of stupid voters, some of whom will run to the polls to stop this mob figure from getting the nomination.
It is where I’m getting too.
“Crux is an unadulterated POS!”
Unlike Trump, who runs casinos and strip clubs?? Ha ha ha.
By the way, as a Vegas kinda guy who wrote Harry Reid’s biography and knows about the sleaze trade and its effects on politics, the idea that Trump had zero dealings with the mob is ludicrous. I know for certain Reid is mobbed up. Now whether The Donald was involved at a trivial level or something more sinister is outside my knowledge, but the mafia question is legitimate and will be asked by Hillary.
Cruz is doing trump a favor by bringing te question up! (Ha ha,sort of payback for that Canadian wetback thing, fair I think).
By the way, knowing how the casino industry works, I guarantee some of the ‘models’ Trump brings in from Eastern Europe are just high priced hookers. But let’s not bring up reality.
No way! How could a bible-toting, casino owner be connected with the mob?
Hey, The Donald can always sue Ted.
Oh wait...
Maybe Cruz’s internal polling is already showing him losing Texas? That would explain this ridiculous, desperate attack against Trump hoping it sticks!
I agree with Ann Coulter on this issue. Trump should not release his returns until the audit is completed. It would be stupid for Trump to put his taxes out there and have the IRS get free pro bono services of all democrat/GOPe tax attorneys scrutinizing his return.
Proves Cruz, Rube and Mitt are establishment uniparty members
Final nail in the coffin for Cruz not being the VP pick.
Actually I think the Washington establishment makes the mob look like a bunch of choir boys.
Just saw to ads, on our local (in TX) news break.
First one was attacking Trump, using old footage of him saying things HE has already told us about...donating to both Dems an Repubs, etc.
In small letters, at end, said Paid for by proCRuz PAC, Stand for Truth (secretive donor PAC)
Next was an ad attacking CRuz for all of his RECENT flip flops (amnesty, etc), the IA CarsonGate debacle, other lies/flip flops.
In YUGE letters, at end, said Paid for by Donald J Trump for President
Trump/Wall 2016
Trump/B@lls 2016
CRuzio losio.
Can you name a Strip Club that Trumps run?
Please do, we all would like this very secretive information because nobody has yet to prove this
He better be 100% sure about this; otherwise, he will never live this down.
... there, fixed it!
Scum
Don’t you think the democrats will hammer this? Best for Donald to get it out now.
