Two months and two billion box office dollars later, Star Wars: The Force Awakens has reaped huge returns for Disney with its most progressive episode yet. Now that Daisy Ridleys Rey and John Boyegas Finn have given the Star Wars franchise its first female Jedi and black lead, respectively, does its fearless director J.J. Abrams see a future for a gay character in the galaxy?
Of course! Abrams said Thursday night at his Bad Robot HQ, where he hosted the US-Ireland Alliances annual Oscar Wilde Awards ahead of Sundays Oscars, where The Force Awakens is nominated in five categories. When I talk about inclusivity its not excluding gay characters. Its about inclusivity. So of course.

After the Sith Lord had an emotional hissy fit in this last Star Wars gay storm troopers is the next logical step in a PC, disneyfied movie franchise.
Only if Chewie is a necrophiliac.
We'll ask this character!
or this one
Maybe this one!
What is it with the left’s insistence of inserting sex into everything?
Sheesh.
They were phony arguments. That should be abundantly clear to everyone by now. The government was not peeping into people’s bedrooms. Sodomy laws kept homosexuality in the closet, where it belongs. Once sodomy became a constitutional right it was all over but for crossing t’s and dotting i’s. The gaystapo had their legal trump card.
What many lesser legal minds hoped was that the SCOTUS would have taken the lesser position on Lawrence, just overturning the Texas law for technical reasons. Instead they offered up the “head” of states’ rights to legislate on these matters to the left on a silver platter.
Antonin Scalia was a prophet.
Now as this disaster progresses, the push for representation in every area of politics, life and culture will only increase — as will the oppression of those who disagree.
Some freedom.
OK. Enjoy your stay at FR then.
This was part of the problem, but the other (and to me, bigger) part is that traditional marriage had been becoming more and more vacuous in practice for decades.
The “gays” came to court and argued that their vacuous relationship wasn’t any more vacuous than the other folks’ vacuous relationship.
Getting a marriage back that means something might mean turning it over to the private sphere.
Yeah, looks like zotbait to me
You mean Jar Jar Abrams? Sure is.
Rey and Finn, so what? . My cousin ( male) has a black girlfriend. Gay stuff is forced, like when they put vegetarian characters in a movie.
Natural law: no worthwhile function to sticking your penis up a guy’s butt. When you see stallions - the real thing, not guys with a lot of imagination - sticking it up the butts of other stallions, get back with me.
On second thought...don’t do anything around my back...
It’s a bunch of flamey, huggy, kissy stage business. So it’s a little easier to see than veggie, which would only be apparent when they eat.
Anyhow. This is the world. It sins. This is one of the ways it sins. I think we always erred to assume America and its cultural accoutrements was a little piece of Christendom, but now it has become obvious.
If Disney allows this it will destroy, destroy the Star Wars franchise.
The damage to merchandise revenue alone should give pause.
I doubt it will draw that much outrage. Its customers aren’t all that devout.
This is sad. Will need to bar all star wars merchandise and influences from my household now.
On some movies.it is brought up in a situation where it wasn’t needed like, “My Fat Greek Wedding”
Star Wars is different. It's practically America's national mythology. It's always been more fantasy/fairy tale than science-fiction. With much of the wholesomeness that comes with it.
It's a safe bet that most of the Star Wars faithful audience is families with children. A lot of people in the Christian community are tremendous fans of Star Wars.
I thought The Force Awakens was an amazing movie. But J.J. Abrams has no clue as to what destruction he would do to the Star Wars brand. There has been no sexuality in Star Wars before: we see Anakin and Padme as a married couple but whatever else that entails happens off-screen. Shoving a "sexuality" into the faces of most people who believe that it's a sick perversion is something else altogether.
Fags in star wars=no more star wars for my family
