Star Wars is different. It's practically America's national mythology. It's always been more fantasy/fairy tale than science-fiction. With much of the wholesomeness that comes with it.
It's a safe bet that most of the Star Wars faithful audience is families with children. A lot of people in the Christian community are tremendous fans of Star Wars.
I thought The Force Awakens was an amazing movie. But J.J. Abrams has no clue as to what destruction he would do to the Star Wars brand. There has been no sexuality in Star Wars before: we see Anakin and Padme as a married couple but whatever else that entails happens off-screen. Shoving a "sexuality" into the faces of most people who believe that it's a sick perversion is something else altogether.
