Donald Trump's Pants on Fire claim he never discussed Libya intervention
Politifact ^ | February 25th, 2016 | Aaron Sharockman

At the GOP debate in Houston, Donald Trump pushed back at a claim from Texas Sen. Ted Cruz that Trump was in favor of the United States helping Libyans oust dictator Muammar Gaddafi.

"He said I was in favor in Libya," Trump said, sounding perplexed. "I never discussed that subject. I was in favor of Libya? We would be so much better off if Gaddafi would be in charge right now."

Oh, Trump discussed it.

And thanks to BuzzFeed, we have the video. (All the hat tips to Andrew Kaczynski.)

It comes from 2011, on Trump's video blog.

"I can't believe what our country is doing," Trump said, according to a BuzzFeed transcript. "Gaddafi in Libya is killing thousands of people, nobody knows how bad it is, and we're sitting around we have soldiers all have the Middle East, and we're not bringing them in to stop this horrible carnage and that's what it is: It's a carnage."

Trump continued.

"You talk about things that have happened in history; this could be one of the worst," Trump said. "Now we should go in, we should stop this guy, which would be very easy and very quick. We could do it surgically, stop him from doing it, and save these lives. This is absolutely nuts. We don’t want to get involved and you're gonna end up with something like you’ve never seen before."

And then ...

"But we have go in to save these lives; these people are being slaughtered like animals," Trump said. "It's horrible what's going on; it has to be stopped. We should do on a humanitarian basis, immediately go into Libya, knock this guy out very quickly, very surgically, very effectively, and save the lives."

Or are we mentally ill, stupid, desperate, etc. for even being remotely concerned about this? Serious question...

Trump's big mouth has spewed so many whoppers he can't even keep track of them all.

The ONLY reason he can't remember is that he never operates on principles.

A principled person doesn't have to remember. They know where they stand.

It is possible that Donnie is suffering from early symptoms of Alzheimer's.

I expect Trumps Art of the Deal will consist of us finally using our leverage and getting much better deals than we’ve seen in decades. We’ll probably see similar negotiating with the rats. Perhaps a bigger problem will be the GOPe.

How can there be anything wrong with getting disaffected people to the polls...people who want our country back? Does it really matter what party they thought they were in? Both parties have been trashing us for decades.

Cruz has compromised - and then tried to cover his tracks like a cat in a litter box. I don’t think he has the ability to lead a group..he just doesn’t have it and has renamed the fact that no one likes him as being an outsider.

In his own words.

Won’t matter.

Donald gets a pass, no matter what he says. Because everyone else is a liar. /s/”

It’s worse than that.

I’ve been called a liar by some here even after showing his supporters his own words regarding his position on an issue

I presume Trump wasn’t supporting the RESULT Hillary and Obama pursued, namely chaos and millions of Muslims invading Europe. So there’s more being referenced here than just killing Khaddafi. Anti-Trumpsters like to fudge on those kinds of details as they weep and tear their hair out. But Trump has always emphasized results, and he does not support the current situation in Libya. Why is that so impossible to accept?

During the presidential campaign, Donald Trump has come down hard on the Obama administration for intervening in Libya to help topple Muammar Qaddafi.

And yet at the time, he was advocating for us to go in and topple him, as evidenced by his own video blog.

Buzz Feed can't save Hillary when Trump plays her "We came, we saw, HE DIED (Cackle!)" video over and over again.

And then Hillary will play Trump's video blog advocating for us to help topple Khadaffi over and over and over again...

Is the fact that Trump's positions as stated in his former business/civilian life sometimes come out different a huge problem? No, and I don't think it would be for the electorate.

Incorrect. Trump is touting his foreign policy judgment that he wouldn't have messed with Ghadaffi when in fact he took the position that landed us with this huge mess in North Africa. The "memory failure" is therefore of substantive worth to cover for that error. It's altering history for purposes of posturing.

It is a lie.

As Josey Wales said, "Senator, don't pi$$ down my back and tell me it's raining."

The next four years are going to be wet ones with Trump as POTUS.

LOL. Do you listen to yourself?

The same things that other people are criticized, are okay in Trump's case.

There is no possible criticism of Trump, because there is always an excuse for him!

>> .but in the debate he claimed he never said anything about it when he was obviously very passionate about it.

A skilled politician would have better deflected the challenge.

It's called "being honest."

Sorry it gave you a rash, since you never presume anything, which is why you never use the term, right?

Anyone who's trying to elect a President who won't piss down their backs is a fool. No presidency has ever been dry. The question is, while we're all getting pissed on, will the President also pursue policies that actually help America, or that continue to kill it?

Listen more carefully to Wpin’s post, and realize you’re tacitly defending the GOP establishment.

Wpin made a good point.
