Donald Trump's Pants on Fire claim he never discussed Libya intervention
Politifact ^ | February 25th, 2016 | Aaron Sharockman

At the GOP debate in Houston, Donald Trump pushed back at a claim from Texas Sen. Ted Cruz that Trump was in favor of the United States helping Libyans oust dictator Muammar Gaddafi.

"He said I was in favor in Libya," Trump said, sounding perplexed. "I never discussed that subject. I was in favor of Libya? We would be so much better off if Gaddafi would be in charge right now."

Oh, Trump discussed it.

And thanks to BuzzFeed, we have the video. (All the hat tips to Andrew Kaczynski.)

It comes from 2011, on Trump's video blog.

"I can't believe what our country is doing," Trump said, according to a BuzzFeed transcript. "Gaddafi in Libya is killing thousands of people, nobody knows how bad it is, and we're sitting around we have soldiers all have the Middle East, and we're not bringing them in to stop this horrible carnage and that's what it is: It's a carnage."

Trump continued.

"You talk about things that have happened in history; this could be one of the worst," Trump said. "Now we should go in, we should stop this guy, which would be very easy and very quick. We could do it surgically, stop him from doing it, and save these lives. This is absolutely nuts. We don’t want to get involved and you're gonna end up with something like you’ve never seen before."

And then ...

"But we have go in to save these lives; these people are being slaughtered like animals," Trump said. "It's horrible what's going on; it has to be stopped. We should do on a humanitarian basis, immediately go into Libya, knock this guy out very quickly, very surgically, very effectively, and save the lives."

It's fine if he changed his mind in the aftermath given that a complete vacuum was left (and making the situation worse)...but in the debate he claimed he never said anything about it when he was obviously very passionate about it. Does this sort of thing really not bother anyone? And this is just one example. Or are we mentally ill, stupid, desperate, etc. for even being remotely concerned about this? Serious question...

What bothers me is my government giving away my country to the third world.

The US was giving aid to Gaddafi until right before we invaded. One of the greatest victories from the Iraq war was the fact that somebody like the Gaddafi back down and was afraid after the Iraq war.

During the presidential campaign, Donald Trump has come down hard on the Obama administration for intervening in Libya to help topple Muammar Qaddafi. Trump says, for example, that the world would be better off with Qaddafi in power. Indeed, he has argued that “frankly there is no Libya; it’s all broken up; they have no control; nobody knows what’s going on.”

Yep.

In his own words.

Won’t matter.

Donald gets a pass, no matter what he says. Because everyone else is a liar. /s/

Cruz New BFF

But in 2011, hoping to brandish his foreign policy credentials for an eventual presidential run, Marco Rubio became one of the most vocal supporters of Hillary Clinton’s War on Libya…

They don’t care if he lies. They believe him about the things they want to believe him about.

Trump is Liar. He loves to call anyone who attacks him a liar but Trump lies anytime that he wants to get away from his previous positions. Wake up Freepers, Trump would be a nightmare as President.

Two key things I do not understand about Trump supporters:

1. They say they are angry because they elected conservatives who went to Washington and did nothing but compromise. So they criticize Ted Cruz for not compromising and they support Mr. “Art of the Deal” who promises to compromise all over the place.

2. They say they are angry that Washington is a “uniparty” but they promote a candidate who they praise for being loyal to no party and for drawing voters from both parties and issues from both parties to form his own “uniparty.”

Buzz Feed can’t save Hillary when Trump plays her “We came, we saw, HE DIED (Cackle!)” video over and over again. With ISIS now ruling 1/3 of Libya, and 400,000 “refugees” coming through Libya to Europe, it will be devastating.

Good God, this is the traps cheats and swindlers set...no one can remember everything they say in their lives. this is the establishment Republican party giving Rubio and Cruz the “dirt” and this isn’t even dirt...they trapped him on purpose. It was a swindle for the stupid in America.

Yes, everyone else is the greatest liar in the world.

The Trump supporters on this website have sold their moral souls for a serial liar and adulterer — and then regularly roast Cruz for his ethics. Let’s see:

1) Pants on fire lie that he never discussed Libya;

2) Said he/his company were not fined $1 million for hiring people here illegally. This is a lie.

3) Read the Bible more than anyone else in the world — but doesn’t know a thing about the Bible, refers to II Corinthians as Two Corinthians, doesn’t need God’s forgiveness and can’t cite a favorite Bible verse.

He is the biggest damn phony I have ever seen in my life; he’s the P.T. Barnum of American politics and his followers could care less about his lies because they’re so mad they can’t even think straight. THE MAN HAS BEEN THE ENEMY OF CONSERVATIVES FOR MOST OF HIS LIFE; NOW HE IS THEIR BEST FRIEND. Who is the sucker here?

Even Cruz noted that probably Trump forgot.

Here's my attack on Trump: He often speaks in absolutes about himself and others - I think it's more style than him actually believing things are so absolute.

Here's my defense: At different times my opinions on these things have been different, depending on the context of the conversation. When you are in civilian life, simply being asked for your opinion at some moment, you say what's present for you, not what you'd necessarily do given the larger responsibility of actually having to order it or not.

In other words, it's partially fair to hold Trump responsible for things he's said, and I had the sense that Cruz was probably right - but even Cruz recognized Trump wasn't lying about never having said that - he simply didn't remember. I figured there probably was a tape of it.

Is the fact that Trump's positions as stated in his former business/civilian life sometimes come out different a huge problem? No, and I don't think it would be for the electorate.

Does he have a problem sometimes stating things too unequivocally? Yep, he's a politician now - doesn't mean he has to never change, but it does mean he has to sometimes not just say what he's feeling at that moment.

Not a big problem for me, but nor do I excuse it or make excuses for him. He's generally an honest guy (no businessmen are entirely honest, but the equivalent of a politician to a businessman is a huckster - and he's not that.) who's also a big talker. This will happen. His positions in 2011 were not entirely coalesced. That's not perfect, but he was also 5 years from a presidential run and wasn't a politician.

Those are my thoughts.

Ted Cruz compromised on the Corker Bill.

That was the beginning of the end for him.

So Trump didn’t happen to remember something that he said in 2011, five years ago? That’s what this is about? Wow.

Trump should lie about things of this nature.

Priebus: “Let’s do amnesty to dumb tea party members, because reputable Cruz says it is okay.”

“Let’s not listen to crazy man Trump who says we should blow up immigration reform”

No one listened to Trump when he said bomb Libya or he had some stupid meeting with some idiot Dreamers.

Reince Priebus trotted out quotes from Cruz to try to push amnesty for illegals because in 2012, 2013 Cruz was the guy they could get a mass legal immigration push from.

The fact is, Cruz has some sort of longheld immigration belief about tired, hungry , poor immigrants.

Trump BS’s to anyone and if immigration is particularly bad in a given decade he opposes it.

If you look at Redstate they want the most open borders conservatives to sell out to dumb voters.

http://www.cbsnews.com/news/face-the-nation-transcripts-june-15-2014-graham-donilon-priebus/

REINCE PRIEBUS: Yeah, but no. I don’t think so. I think that if you look at— you google Ted Cruz, you google Rand Paul and immigration, you— what you’ll find is that even Rand Paul and Ted Cruz have been out there publicly calling for serious immigration reform. And so, in fact, Rand Paul on March nineteenth went to the Hispanic Chamber and said we need comprehensive immigration reform. Those are his words, not mine. I think there is consensus that the immigration system is broken, but how to fix it is another issue.

Even Planned Parenthood is being defended for “the good things” they do. On FR. Unbelievable.
