In a story published Thursday, Catherine Herridge of Fox News added incrementally to what we know about the ongoing investigation, but the buried lede may be word of the current mood at the FBI. Herridge quotes an unnamed source with knowledge of the investigation who tells her career professionals at the FBI, “will be angry and walk off if no indictment recommendation is followed through.”
That certainly makes it sound as if some portion of the FBI–presumably those with knowledge of the case–think there is enough evidence to recommend prosecution (of someone). They wouldn’t be ready to “walk off” unless they were pretty certain the evidence supported their conclusion. And, reading a bit more between the lines, it seems there is some impatience in the ranks to go ahead and conclude the matter in the way these professionals have already concluded is warranted.
At some point the FBI needs to either move on the recommendation for prosecution or announce they won’t be recommending any prosecution. A recommendation to prosecute someone close to Clinton would not knock her out of the race but it would add to public’s doubts about her overall honesty. And of course if the recommendation were to target Clinton herself that would be a game-changer which could swing votes toward Sanders or convince someone on the sidelines that now is the time to jump in the race. Whatever the case, it would be better to have the information out sooner rather than later.
The rest of Herridge’s report suggests the probe is expanding to involve career DOJ attorneys:
Attorney General Loretta Lynch confirmed to Congress Wednesday that career Justice Department attorneys are working with FBI agents on the criminal investigation of Hillary Clintonâs email practices and the handling of classified material.
Legal experts say the assignment of career Justice Department attorneys to the case shows the FBI probe has progressed beyond the initial referral, or “matured,” giving agents access to the U.S. governmentâs full investigative tool box, including subpoena power for individuals, business or phone records, as well as witnesses.
You may recall that when the FBI referral was initially made by the Inspector General for the Intelligence Community last year it was described by the New York Times as a criminal investigation. That description was not supposition on the part of the NY Times, it was confirmed by unnamed sources believed to be inside the Justice Department. Other news organizations got the same confirmations when they asked.
A day later the story had changed. The NY Times was forced to back away from the description of a “criminal investigation” after DOJ clarified they had received a “security referral.” A spokesperson for the IG’s office told me the difference between a security referral and a criminal referral last year. A security referral involves possible mishandling of classified information, in this case sending highly classified material over an unclassified email system. That differs from a criminal referral which is generally directed at a specific individual.
Natually, Clinton’s allies in the media swarmed over the error by the NY Times but even a security referral to the FBI is premised on possible criminal conduct, meaning that in the end the result of either referral could be a recommendation for prosecution. It certainly sounds as if some career staff at the FBI already think that is warranted.
Tell you I will, indicted she will not be.
If Hillary Clinton is not indicted, then the Republicans must defund The Department Of Justice.
We either have the rule of law in this nation and Hillary is indicted, or we don’t have the rule of law and Hillary is not indicted because she is nobility.
If there is no rule of law, then there is no justice.
If there is no justice, then there is no need for a Department Of Justice.
They need to leak the DIRT on Hillary before they go.
NOT A FREAKING CHANCE!!! NO ONE today gives up their CUSHY JOB and PENSION to stand up for what’s right!! NO ONE!! That’s why we are DOMMED!
Indicted she will not be, but recommendation for indictment by the FBI could cost her a few thousand voters.
The article hints at someone close to Hillary possibly being indicted, instead of the shrill one herself. That might be enough to appease the Feds. I wonder who ValJar will pick as the sacrificial lamb?! Huma? Cheryl Mills? Probably some low, low-level grunt will take the fall, along with a rather large deposit being made to an offshore bank account. Of course, the trick will be to stay alive in a Federal pen long enough to collect.
I worked there for 32 years before retiring. They’re not going anywhere. They are spineless bureaucrats. Like the Republicans in Congress, they will shut up and do as told. They will fold like a cheap suit. They will never give up their undemanding $125,000 jobs, eight weeks paid annual leave, with full medical benefits for ANY principle.
I did! I was the City Manager and shortly after he election of 2009 I had 2 new city Council members come to me to try and make deals that would protect and enrich their crony’s. If I said yes then I could keep my job, if I said no they would move to replace me. I said Hell No! They kept their word and I was out by September along with my 6 figure salary....
Integrity at the FBI? ... Hardy Har Har
What the hey. No big deal. The my ‘ministration occupant has greased the skids on many higher than these and affirmatively replaced them. A plus if they walk to him.
For who the Democrat Party? I am as eager as anyone to see Her Thighness get what's coming to her but a referral for prosecution after she is nominated could be killing two birds with one stone.
They do not have to leak “the DIRT” on Hillary. All they have to do is to release her FBI and CIA files. There should be enough in there to convict her of treason, and definitely enough to prove that she likes communists as much as universal healthcare.
But them again, if they released the FBI and CIA files on many of Obama’s tops advisors, and himself, the jails would be filled and the firing squads running out of ammo.
File:
Obama and his birth family
Obama’s various “mentors” (Frank Marshall Davis, David S. Cantor, possibly Don Rose)
Vann Jones - STORM
Robert Malley - son of a KGB operative and cofounder of one of three pro-Soviet “Communist Party of Egypt” in the late 1940’s.
David Axelrod’s associates and parents activities/affiliations
Huma Abedin and the Moslem Brotherhood, and I mean the whole file on her and her family
John Kerry and his contacts with the North Vietnamese and their puppet front, the NLF/PRG in Paris; his pro-Sandinista work in the Senate (with Tom Harkin) and in Nicaragua itself. His fiasco investigation into the non-existent “contra drug smuggling program) and his hiring of perjured FBI informant Frank Varelli and Hanoi propagandist D. Gareth (Gary) Porter, whose real job with Kerry and his Senate investigations have never been released.
and there are others who probably showed up in the banking/financial scandals.
Why doesn’t the FBI just arrest Hillary? Didn’t take them long to arrest them Cowboys out West or do they have to get Lynch to approve it first?
The RATs say
My brother works in Fed law enforcement. He plans to retire at 50, with pension (!!!!!)
fbi “professionals” ???
Don’t make America barf.
As dirty as the day is long, and getting dirtier every second.
They haven’t done shit to enforce the law against the Clinton Crime Family over decades, they aren’t doing shit, and they WON’T do shit.
Lady Justice pukes her guts out every time one of these feds comes within 1000 ft of any courthouse.
Walking off the job my ass. A thousand toilets flush the second their foot leaves the federal building and hits the sidewalk.
Get hired @ 20 yrs. old, work 30 yrs...presto! Good for him though.
I don’t see how them walking off forces change except we lose the conservative veterans and get incompetent diversity hires instead, hurting national security.
That would be horrendous and almost go unnoticed.
“will be angry and walk off”
should read:
“will be angry, but will walk it off”
