Sen. Ted Cruz of Texas is leading 2016 GOP presidential rival Donald Trump by 15 points in the senator's home state, according to a poll released Thursday just days ahead of Super Tuesday.
Mr. Cruz was at 38 percent support among likely Republican primary voters in Texas, with Mr. Trump at 23 percent and Sen. Marco Rubio of Florida at 21 percent, according to the survey from Monmouth University conducted from Monday to Wednesday.
Retired neurosurgeon Ben Carson was at 6 percent and Ohio Gov. John Kasich was at 5 percent.
"Cruz looks to be well-positioned in Texas. The challenge for him is that a lot of other states are also on the slate for Super Tuesday," said Patrick Murray, director of the independent Monmout University Polling Institute.
Texas is one of 11 states where voters will head to the polls Tuesday to make their selections for the 2016 GOP presidential nomination, and its 155 delegates up for grabs is by far the most of any state.
Other recent polls on the state have ranged from a tie between Mr. Cruz and Mr. Trump to a 15-point edge for Mr. Cruz, who is trying to demonstrate that he is the only candidate in the race who can take down the billionaire businessman.
On the Democratic side, former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton had a better than 2-to-1 advantage over Sen. Bernard Sanders of Vermont, 64 percent to 30 percent.

“..the Harvard-educated lawyer w/ two Ivy League degrees said he didn’t know.”
Young Teddy, when he turned sixteen, went down to the motor vehicle division and applied for a driver’s license. You would think that when he did not have a Texas birth certificate, it would have made him wonder why. And what kind of age verification did he use?
So I have averaged five of the major polls in Texas over the last two days. I have found that such a analysis gives a better picture of things.
Here is what that says:
Cruz up over nine points in Texas.

So Cruz will win his home state by 15 or more!
“...when Rush said that some of Trump’s comments about Cruz were bordering on defamation.”
That was merely what Rush said. That doesn’t make it gospel.
As far as Levin is concerned, I had to stop listening to the bile and venom he would spew at Trump. It got tiresome.
When Cruz goes on O’Reilly and says that Trump is for amnesty and citizenship for illegals, THAT is defamation; lying lawyer spin.
Well, I’m going to....that’s for sure :)
The other is the laugh a minute "Cincinnatus' Wife."
This is good news for Cruz and Trump. Rubio has no such state to build off of with a victory. Even with Bush out in Florida, Rubio trails badly.
Two-man race coming soon, let’s go.
Monday Levin played a clip of Trump calling Cruz sick and lying about Trump being against privatizing Federal Park land in NV,(for keeping it Federal) in a rally.
Trump said “I dont know what he is talking about”
Then Levin played an older clip where Trump said he supports the Feds owning all that land,
Then Levin went on to say what I posted in my previous comment.
I usually catch his first 20 minutes driving.
Reasonable approach and good info, Thx.
Do you think Levin would play a clip of Cruz saying he has always been against legalizing illegals and then play the video clip of Cruz calling for legalizing illegals?
Or Cruz saying he is against TPA and then reading Cruz’s lies he wrote in favor of TPA and then voting for TPA?
Or play clips of Cruz lambasting the Corker bill, and then informing his listeners that Cruz voted for the Corker bill?
When that happens, get back to me.
I stopped listening to Levin about a month ago.
Well, I’m basing my comment on the fact that I’ve heard Trump mention how nice Rush has been to him (and one item was to warm Trump about something he was doing - I’ve forgotten the exact issue) and after that, Trump was doing things a little different.
So, if he got the message from Rush, then he might pay attention to it.
Trump did exactly the same thing so that's a null point.
In this case Levin was playing a clip of Trump caught bald faced lying on stage while calling Cruz a liar at the same time, for telling the truth,
That was the subject of his point.... not Trump;s flip-flopping, *+(which this was not a case of).
This poll is a lie. It is Cruz enemies putting this out,
Rush has been good to him, but Rush tends to be like that to most candidates, he's nice to Rubio too.
He was critical of Trump saying that Cruz wont work with others in the Senate to pass stuff, as criticism.
Trump probably couldn't care less what they say now.
Never in my wildest dreams did I think I'd see the day when folks on our side were adopting Alinsky tactics toward Conservatives. Not in a million years would I have thought I'd see a time when Free Republic was flush with people in a PRIMARY election who were demanding we all support a candidate who EVEN NOW sings the praises of Planned Parenthood, supports Kelo, blames Bush for 9/11, uses pedophile analogies to refer to a good and decent man like Dr. Ben Carson, and openly proclaims in absolute hubris that he has nothing to apologize to God for in his entire life.
Liberal on everything, always. Does it matter? No. Because he talked about illegal immigrants once and didn't back down when attacked for it. That's all it took. At that moment, folks swore allegiance to Trump like Vader to Palapatine, and he can now do no wrong, ever, under any circumstance, ever.
Some weird story about an unnamed friend not having an abortion - POOF, he's Pro-Life! Joined the NRA, just like Michael Moore - POOF, he's a Second Amendment champion! No actual policy answers or experience or detailed plan? Doesn't matter - “it'll be great,” and “you're gonna love it!”
I donât even think issues matter anymore to most people here. His actual record, life, and past, and even his current aforementioned stances, mean nothing. Why?
Trump is the god of the middle finger,
The patron saint of F*ck You,
and thatâs all that seems to matter anymore.
I’d be happy to, but if you don’t mind, resend your request via PM...so I can find it later. Thanks a bunch—GGG
Ted Cruz 2016!!!
I never, ever, said Cruz would need lawyers.
You said that - not me.
I said Trump’s lawyers might have talked to TRUMP - so get your brain in gear before you accuse me of things.
When I was happy with Cruz, I assumed he was a true Texan. Low and behold, he has been a dual citizen of U.S. and Canada all the while he has been a senator. If we had known that he never would have been elected.
