"I would think that because of the fact that while I'm very political - I'm not a politician - I would want to choose a politician," the candidate told FOX Business Network's Neil Cavuto.
Trump's national campaign co-chair told the Boston Herald the candidate is looking for a "diamond in the rough" as a potential running mate.

I’m not advocating this, but Kasich has a couple of other positives from a ticket electability standpoint.
He would allow the donor class and GOPe slimebuckets to save a tiny speck of face which would help us present a united front, and
He would also help seal the deal for cross-over democrats who wish to jump ship this election but need just a bit of a nudge to justify it in their own minds.
With the supreme court hanging in the balance, we have to win this election. Otherwise it’s all over. If that means a Kasich as VP, so be it.

Sessions is my Senator. Doubt he would accept it. Diamond in the rough, to me, suggests someone doing good things, but flying under the radar. Probably at the state level.

I like Newt. He is one sharp man.

How about Duncan Gunter, Jr. One of the congressmen who endorsed him today. An Iraq war vet.

Hopefully Trump picks a solid governor. Nobody with beltway stink on him/her would be a good choice, IMO.

That's obvious. Ted Cruz. I think that bridge has been burned.
I don't think so. These are men who are high achievement, and long term strategists. They play the game, get the others to out themselves, and they come in and mop the floor with them.
My inclination is that Trump needs a pit-bull on Capitol Hill who will arm-twist to get what he wants through congress. This thing between Trump and Cruz has tag-team written all over it.
