"I would think that because of the fact that while I'm very political - I'm not a politician - I would want to choose a politician," the candidate told FOX Business Network's Neil Cavuto.
Trump's national campaign co-chair told the Boston Herald the candidate is looking for a "diamond in the rough" as a potential running mate.

Newt, also my choice for press secretary.
Sheriff Joe Arpaio for Vice President.
I think that bridge has been burned.
I have to agree. A few months ago, when the Bro-mance was still strong, I was pretty certain that a deal had been cut between the two concerning the VEEP position, should Trump prevail for the nomination. But I think the personal and severe vitriolic attacks have precluded this idea. It's gotten too nasty and too personal now. If a deal were to be struck at this point, it would appear to be insincere pandering at it's worst. It would look exactly like what it would be: A shrewdly calculated move that was purely political in nature.
Remember Huckabee attended Trumpâs veteranâs benefit? Trump will probably pick Huckabee for VP.
Remember Huckabee attended Trump’s veteran’s benefit? Trump will probably pick Huckabee for VP.
(translated from Martian to English)
He said he wants someone knowledgeable about congressional workings. That puts Cruz in the picture. And rubio. But they are first termers, so it would be possible trump might not see them as legislative experts. I would pick Cruz, but Cruz doesn’t open up a state like rubio does. Kasich gives both but he’s just not a fighter.
Don’t know, he might send Cruz to the Supreme Court.
I’m sure Trump will pick Chris Christie. Christie is Huge, and Trump likes that word.
Perry would be great but the President and the VP cannot be from the same state.
Jeff Sessions
I’d love to see Sessions.
Mike Lee
Arpaio
Cruz
Scott Walker
These guys would be on my short list.
Scott Brown - Massachusetts.
Hes been auditioning
There was a time I would have agreed - after he made all that noise about shutting the Texas border with mexico with or without Fed help/approval, then slunk away w/o actually doing anything, I changed my view.
It would be interesting if he finds somebody not truly associated with politics.
Trump killed that possibility, if it ever really existed, by saying he thinks Cruz is not a natural-born citizen.
Arpaio
Seriously?
Mike Lee
A good, solid conservative who would do a better job in the Senate blocking Trump's moderate policies than as veep.
Scott Walker
Walker might do it but I don't think there is any love lost between them.
Kasich is a mega-RINO who would reinforce the base’s worst fears about Trump if he pulls the biggest Establishment candidate aboard. Trump can win Ohio on his own, but the bigger game’s up if he goes in that direction.
The GOPe keeps screaming that Trump’s not a real conservative, so here’s the perfect opportunity for him to bring on a real conservative.
Too bad Cruz blew it.
Sessions would be great.
If a governor, I’d go with Mary Fallin from Oklahoma.
Why not?
(And Cruz would have been perfect if he hadn’t screwed it up.)
Plus, Texas is the last state Trump will need help with in the general election.
I just saw this bit of Palin news:
