Ted Cruz says this 2-year-old tweet proves that Donald Trump 'SUPPORTS amnesty'

"Just a minute ago, I tweeted on Twitter a tweet that Donald sent in 2013," Cruz said during a Boston Herald Radio interview.

He was referring to an August 2013 tweet in which the Republican presidential front-runner wrote: "Congress must protect our borders first. Amnesty should be done only if the border is secure and illegal immigration has stopped."

Cruz said on the radio on Thursday that Trump was backing the legislative effort partially led by another presidential candidate, Sen. Marco Rubio (R-Florida).

"Now in 2013, I was leading the fight against Marco Rubio's 'Gang of Eight' amnesty plan," Cruz said, referring to an immigration-reform bill that Rubio coauthored. "In the middle of that fight, Donald Trump sent out a tweet supporting amnesty, saying we should adopt amnesty. Now, that's a sharp difference," he added.

Cruz also hit Trump for criticizing Mitt Romney's tone on the illegal-immigration issue during the 2012 Republican presidential nominee's race against President Barack Obama.

No he doesn't and no it doesn't. He said amnesty should only be done after the border is secure. In no way does that even imply that he agrees with amnesty. That amnesty should be off the table until the borders are secure. Then and only then can amnesty be considered. That consideration will include several factors, but it will not entertain blanket amnesty. If you have come here illegally and you have created a productive life and value what America has enabled you to create for yourself and your family then perhaps you will be granted a visa to allow you to get citizenship in a legal fashion.

Cruz has already stated that he will not use force to round up illegals so what exactly do you think his game plan is?

As of late as last November, Cruz was looking for ‘a conversation’ about in-place amnesty for illegals.

It does not matter. Trump supporters will never be deterred by evidence that he changes his message to manipulate voters.

How many Tea Party-Conservatives elected to congress does it take to make a Trump supporter? All of the ones who supported Obama's agenda.

If you want to talk about manipulation, better look that the GOP controlled congress.

Yet, Rubio is pro-amnesty and Trump is anti-amnesty? However you can spin it, I guess.

This is a fair criticism. Trump did support amnesty in 2013, and called Romney’s self-deport plan “mean-spirited” in 2012. I think some Trump supporters are going to be sorely disappointed when they find out the deal he cuts to get a wall (of some kind) constructed.

How is it BS? Trump has said he will build a door in his wall to let them back in. He was sued, and lost, because of using illegal alien labor on one of his projects. His own word said “amnesty” after the border is secure. That is exactly what the Gang of Eight were trying to do. The only BS is the way his supporters will ignore every single thing he says and does that shows how much he is a moderate, at best.

Wrong.

But as late as this past August, Trump was calling for giving illegals “a path” and making it “possible for them to succeed” so they could stop “:living under the shadows.” He was using the language of the open borders crowd, saying that illegals “do jobs Americans don’t want to do.”

Trump has consistently supported amnesty until he started running for president.

Every time I hear amnesty, I want that particular person to define it as it applies.

In other words, Ted should not be defining what Trump is saying.

The idea that you have to leave and can come back legally, and can never become a citizen is ridiculous.

His immigration policy, now, is almost exactly what Cruz’s has been since 2011, at least. I believe the reason Trump is getting so much support is that so many people have been asleep for the past three or four years and just woke to hear him mouthing other people’s ideas as his own.
