GOP presidential candidate Dr. Ben Carson told Politico on Tuesday that it is “a bit of a stretch” for President Barack Obama to claim he identifies with the experience of black Americans, because “he was raised white.”
“He was raised white,” Carson said of Obama. “Many of his formative years were spent in Indonesia. So for him to claim that he identifies with the experience of black Americans I think is a bit of a stretch.”
During an interview with Politico’s “Off Message” podcast, Carson said he was “proud that we broke the color barrier” when Obama was elected, but Obama’s experience and Carson’s experience were “night and day different.”
Politico’s Glenn Thrush asked Carson, “Are you curious at all about what his experience was like? I mean, when he was elected—“
“What experience?” Carson asked.
“Experience of being elected. Let’s just stop it at Jan. 20, 2009, right? Was that significant for you? As somebody who sat and watched that – I was there. I was in the crowd. It was a pretty interesting moment in American history. Did you derive any joy out of that, any sense of pride? How did you process that?” Thrush asked.
“I did not—I mean like most Americans, I was proud that we broke the color barrier when he was elected, but I also recognize that his experience and my experience are night and day different. He didn’t grow up like I grew up by any stretch of the imagination – not even close,” Carson said.
“He was an ‘African’ American as opposed to an African-American,” Thrush said.
Great interview. I love to listen to successful articulate Americans... but when they’re from a minority and they rise above me....in many respects... I love it.
I thought the story about Condolizza Rice was incredible. I would love to see Trump have her back in the cabinet. She speaks French, is a concert pianist. There was so much about her people don’t know.
Great great person...
She’s my new VP pick
Trump/Condi Rice
The good doc telling the truth again.
He’s no politician, but I do admire the man.
Was raised as a White Liberal Women
What gets me about Carson is he has never spoken out about Obamas abuse of the Bully Pulpit and the resultant conflicts plus assults and murders that came from it. Begining with revenge for Treyvon Martin attacks on non blacks by black gangbangers which resulted in about a score (20) of deaths and serious injuries.
One who has spoken out about it is Milwaukee county Sheriff Clarke (D) who by the way is running for re election this month. Won Feb 16th primary .
When Carson held a brief but slight lead in the Iowa polls Trump set out and accused him of being everything from a pedophile, crazy, and questionable surgeon involved in abortions. Trump was unrelenting and cost Carson his slight polling lead during the November lead up.
Does he seriously believe Trump would consider him for VP ?
The man shoud really formally drop out and use the remaining time to fund raise and clean up his campaign debts.
Carson is right.
Jamiel Shaw Sr is more of a Republican than RINOs Nikki Haley trying to enrich herself as a minority Republican.
If they are trying to get minorities in the GOP they should be getting ordinary minorities like Jamiel and others.
If people buy his books or participate in his venture that’s not the same as Murphy.
I love it when a plan comes together.
Nope. But a nice try.
LOL!
They really don’t get it do they?
Absolutely true. But extend that a bit. Who benefits?
Good for Dr. Carson and spot on!
This is true and I have pointed it out for years. Obama spent most of his upbringing raised by white people. Once he went back to Hawaii from Indonesia, he was raised exclusively by whites and attended a nearly all-white private school.
As I recall, that was an issue with a lot of blacks at first. They said he wasn’t black enough. Well, he counters that by being one hell of a rabble rouser. So funny that African-Americans are descended from slaves; Bammy is descended from slave traders.
Oh damn. Trump does that too. Explains a lot.
It couldn’t have been much of a problem. 0bama got a record breaking 97% of the black vote in 2008.

Benj tahu bahwa dia bermain kartu ras!
...Carson is spot-on! Obama did not have the inner city experience as a child, nor was it in his heritage. Smokin' up a storm. Thanks for hte info. Obama's white background is something I've known about, but you presented a lot of interesting facts to fill in the picture. Did you read that in Obama's book? How he raised in private schools etc. isn't common knowledge. I'm liking Carson's role as agitator. Hope he stays in all the way, though I support Trump. |
