Rick Tyler, the Senior Communications Advisor for Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX), issued a public apology after spreading a false story reporting that Sen. Marco Rubio (R-FL) made a nasty comment to a Cruz staffer about the Bible.
"I want to apologize to Senator Marco Rubio for posting an inaccurate story about him here earlier today," Tyler wrote on Facebook after sharing the false story online. "The story misquoted a remark the Senator made to the staffer. I assumed wrongly that the story was correct."
The false report indicated that Rubio said that there were "not many answers" in the Bible -- when in fact, Rubio commented that "all the answers" were in the book of scripture.
Tyler indicated that he communicated with the Cruz staffer in the video, who explained that Rubio had made a "friendly and appropriate remark" about the Bible.
"Since the audio was unclear, I should not have assumed the story was correct," Tyler wrote. "I've deleted the post because I would not knowingly post a false story. But the fact remains that I did post it when I should have checked its accuracy first. I regret the mistake."

Yeah. An interesting comparison would be to the false story Trump and his campaign spread about Tom Coburn last week. Trump's social media director (Scavino) took a story on a left-wing blog that called Cruz "without a doubt one of the most dishonest people in Washington," and falsely attributed that quote to Coburn. Trump then re-tweeted Scavino's quote, falsely reiterating that the quote had come from Coburn. Then, Trump talked about the story in at least one or two rallies, even after the quote had been debunked.
Did Trump apologize? Nope. Did he fire Scavino (as many seem to think Cruz should)? Nope. They just both quietly deleted the tweets, as if nothing happened.
Very telling. And ironic, since the fake Coburn quote was about Cruz being dishonest.
I agree with you.
Maybe Cruz should keep it at the Trump level and call the other candidates pedophiles they way Trump, not a staffer but Trump, did to Carson.
That would be OK with you wouldn’t it?
“If Ted Cruz can’t even manage his campaign how is he going to manage a country?”
That one statement says it all!
‘CanuckTed has always been a slimey, despicable politician who will say or do anything.’
Someone who knew him in TX says Cruz changed after he hired Jeff Roe and started running for POTUS. I wonder if there is some truth to that?
Amen.
I read here yesterday that the Cruz camp did nothing wrong...
And yet, here is an apology...
If there weren’t double standards in politics there would be no standards at all. ;-)
That story never had any credibility. Only a fool would have thought it true for an instant.
Unfortunately, Cruz chose to hire Jeff Roe, so no story or activity is off limits, no matter how slimy. Fatal error. Worse, Sen. Cruz has supported and validated all of his campaign’s activities. Smear first, apologize later. Easier to ask forgiveness, right?
Anyone who wants to be chief executive should know who and how to hire to get the right people for the job.
Heâs using Beck to court the Mormon vote, which was Mittâs strategy there as well because there are a lot of them in NV. Guess weâll see if it pays off, but from what Iâm reading, the GOP apparatus in Nevada is a mess and the caucus is going to be a clown show.

You are right. Nevada Republican Party is a mess. The Mormons did not behave the same throughout the state. Many voted third party because they did not trust Romney, figured he was a RINO.
“Concern Troll.”
Lying Troll.
And yet, here is an apology...
Yes, for tweeting it. The people who own the video are standing by it.
Marco Rubio has awkward confrontation with Rafael Cruz, Cruz staffer in hotel lobby
Note from the Editor: We have been receiving lots of questions about the contents of this video, and some have disagreed with our transcript. We stand by our original transcript, but the video is here for you to see for yourself and make your own judgement.
Maybe you should read this and then tell my why I think you fit the description of exactly what I was talking about.
Carson’s own words.
Go Further. Look at the connections to the person who runs his campaign. -CIA/NSA/DHS
Cruz is no outsider.
This is his campaign manager Jeff Roe. He is a smear promoter, dirty tricks kind of guy.
Yep. You are right.
The Cruz campaign deserves credit for repudiating the false attribution.
It wasn’t just a STAFFER it was posted by Ted Cruz’s comms director...
They wanted this out there to smear Rubio, but then it turned around and hit them back in the face.
“He’s using Beck to court the Mormon vote”
Good luck with that.
I’m a Mormon and for me, Glenn Beck is a liability and not an asset. He’s gone off the deep end. That swearing in was just plain weird and creepy.
And who is he to say that God wanted Ted. I find it offensive. Personally, I think that if God intended to make Ted our leader, he would have seen that he was born in the USA. And secondly, we would have seen miracles and the hand of providence upon him. I see too many gaffes and problems for me to believe that God is raising him up. I see, in fact, the opposite.
A lot of Mormons think Glenn is nuts.
Jeff Roe with Cruz’s campaign leadership sets the tone for such tripe to be foisted in the public without forethought or examination. Six months ago I said that Cruz would regret this guy and I have seen the mess of the last two months and know that Cruz made a big mistake.
An interesting theory to watch. That's a distinct possibility.
