Rick Tyler, the Senior Communications Advisor for Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX), issued a public apology after spreading a false story reporting that Sen. Marco Rubio (R-FL) made a nasty comment to a Cruz staffer about the Bible.
"I want to apologize to Senator Marco Rubio for posting an inaccurate story about him here earlier today," Tyler wrote on Facebook after sharing the false story online. "The story misquoted a remark the Senator made to the staffer. I assumed wrongly that the story was correct."
The false report indicated that Rubio said that there were "not many answers" in the Bible -- when in fact, Rubio commented that "all the answers" were in the book of scripture.
Tyler indicated that he communicated with the Cruz staffer in the video, who explained that Rubio had made a "friendly and appropriate remark" about the Bible.
"Since the audio was unclear, I should not have assumed the story was correct," Tyler wrote. "I've deleted the post because I would not knowingly post a false story. But the fact remains that I did post it when I should have checked its accuracy first. I regret the mistake."

Makes you wonder if the stories are plants or if the Dems infiltrated the Cruz camp and are causing problems for him. I can understand why the leftists wouldn't want Cruz led . He would tear down all their progress in swift order.
But...but...isn’t St. Rafael de Canada infallible?
His worshippers on here say it so often...doesn’t that make it true?
[Iâm going to give Cruz the benefit of the doubt and say that these repeated missteps are mistakes by his staffers and not by him. But he should have done a better job of choosing his staff.]
And people are worried that Trump won’t hire competent people....
If Cruz staffs his administration with any of these types of clowns, he’s going to get us into WWIII without even knowing it.
See #94. I still believe the preponderance of venom is by some agitator Cruz supporters. Yes, there is Trump venom too, but I don’t think as much, and I don’t contribute to it or support it.
The outcome will likely be decided on Super Tuesday. We may even see some more drop outs. Regardless, it won’t be long and we are either going to collectively coalesce around someone in opposition to the Democrat ticket or we will flounder engrossed in a battle that doesn’t help us win the war. Take your pick. I’m willing to let the nomination process proceed based on actual votes instead of invective from both sides here.
I agree. Cruz needs to get a handle on his campaign staff, as they are hurting his campaign with these stupid antics...Cruz doesn’t need any more of these little petty issues, that the his competitors can twist and turn into something to be used against him.
After all, it seems all it takes is one mistake or one misperception of the truth, and his rivals take it, make it into something it’s not and the dumbed down populace believes the hype.
Nope.
Let’s see, what ‘s that make, like 5 or 6 fabrications from camp Cruz?
That’s some campaign strateeegery. Lie, apologize. Lie, apologize, Rinse, repeat.
I guess that’s one way to to try and change the headlines his campaign is dead.
You really think the guy who put together this campaign staff and didn’t rein them in after the Iowa debacle should trusted to make good choices? Keep in mind Cruz also vigorously supported John Roberts for the US Supreme Court when the nomination was made.
As you can see, Trump is in hock to a veritable who's who of Wall Street banks, as one would probably expect of a person who makes a good portion of his living doing New York City real estate deals. The bare minimum amount displayed here is at least $250 million in loans, although of course it is probably much, much more than that. Trump has four loans listed here that are "over $50 million" and of course, those might go all the way up to a billion each or beyond.
Now, no one knows how much Trump is worth, and his own word is definitely not to be believed on that subject, but it is clear that some very significant amount of it is tied up as collateral for these loans. Nor would it really matter if Trump announced he were going to pay these all back tomorrow, at least by his standard.
I would frankly be surprised if someone of Trump's business profile has not at one time had an enormous outstanding loan from every bank of any decent size in the country, in fact.
If Ted Cruz is owned by Goldman Sachs and Citibank because they once gave him a $1 million loan (even though it is completely or mostly paid back), then Donald Trump is definitely owned by not only Citibank and Goldman Sachs, but also by every name on this list.
If America can't trust Ted Cruz to protect them from Goldman and Citibank (although why any of us need protecting from Citibank, I do not know), then how can anyone in America trust Donald Trump to protect them from literally every bank?
As for Goldman Sachs, Trump is himself a shareholder in Goldman Sachs, which means he has a direct financial interest in its success. One would think that would make Trump even less enthusiastic about protecting me from Goldman Sachs (whatever that means) than Cruz would.
Even so, Cruz did personally apologize to Ben Carson about the false report in Iowa.
I don't think Trump got way with it. He got called out on it, by Coburn as well as by others. If your criteria for "double standard" is lack of perfect uniformity in dealing with mistakes, everybody has a double standard. The fact that Trump didn't make a public apology cuts against him. I don't personally think it's a big cut, but obviously and naturally, people are trying to get alot of mileage out of it.
Cruz campaign manager, Jeff Roe, plays dirty. It reflects badly on Cruz’s judgment to have hired him.
It isn't just Cruz supporters. Trump supporters are brutal too. And a lot of it is fed by new sign ups.
Cruz isn’t acting any “way”. His campaign staff obviously isn’t doing very smart things, but at least they came out right away and apologized for the mistake.
Has Trump or his campaign staff come out and apologized for all the lies they are spreading? No....
Says a lot.
Cruz cannot manage campaign and wants to manage the country. Fire some people Ted!
Probably too late. His Beck/Barton connections haven’t helped, either. What’s CRuz to do? Start over, completely, from scratch? Excellent point, though.
Nope. It's several fabrications about Cruz that are continually repeated even after being debunked.
Where is Trumps apology for that fake Coburn tweet AND his retelling of it at two events? Nowhere.
I wouldn’t bet money on that.
1. Phony summonses mailed out, scaring people to vote for Cruz.
2. Claiming Carson quit, presinc captains told voters "vote for Cruz"
3. Campaigning in the 800 churches, showing video "vote for me" with his preacher/father stomping for him. Rafael Cruz is a 7 Mountain Dominionist and believes his son is the anointed one.
4. "Brilliant" lawyer, did not know he was Canadian citizen and that he is not Natural Born Citizen, not eligible for office of P or VP.
5. Making phony video advertising with lies about opponents.
Just enough to beat Trump in IA, apologize, rinse and repeat?
Trump got away with lying.
