White House says Obama ‘regrets’ filibuster against Alito nomination in 2006
The Washington Times ^ | February 17, 2017 | Dave Boyer

The White House said Wednesday that President Obama "regrets" his filibuster against Supreme Court nominee Samuel Alito in 2006, but insisted the situation was different than Republicans' current vow to block any nominee to replace the late Justice Antonin Scalia.

"These are two different things," said White House press secretary Josh Earnest. "The president's objections to then-President Bush's nominee were based in substance."

In 2006, then-Sen. Obama and 23 other Democrats -- including Hillary Clinton -- tried to filibuster Justice Alito's nomination. He was confirmed for the high court anyway.

Then Obama will understand why Republicans regret not holding hearings now.

He sure was stumbling and fumbling, the turkey didn’t really know what to say. That was the high point of the presser for me.

Then Republicans should make it the same thing. Veto anyone he puts forward. then claim to regret it 10 years later like he did. there. Problem solved.

Well in a few years remind us to say we regret stopping him from making things worse... (I for one will not regret it a bit)

He earned that title and we need to respect that.

Nothing any of the Republicans have said in any way prevents Obama from nominating a replacement.

What he should do is to nominate a moderate Republican - someone who, if he'd been nominated by a Republican, would have easily been confirmed.

That would make it very difficult for the GOP leadership to refuse to consider him.

What he's likely to do, instead, though, is to nominate some wack-job leftist.

“the White House said Wednesday that President Obama “regrets” his filibuster against Supreme Court nominee Samuel Alito in 2006, but insisted the situation was different”

Absolutely it’s different: that was then when Obama DIDN’T regret his filibuster and now Obama DOES regret his filibuster. BIG, BIG difference, hey?

Well that is not what Obama himself said yesterday when he was on tv. Maybe he should go back on TV and say it instead of flunky Josh.

That’s okay. And in fairness, he should allow Republicans to feel the pain of the same “regret” he describes - ten years from now.

‘Not skipping Scalia’s funeral would be a good opportunity for him to reverse that. But he’s already announced he won’t attend.’

It’s not easy chewing Nicorette gum through an entire funeral. Whenever the camera focusses on you, you look like a cow.

Of course the dems would do the exact same thing. Harry Reid would, of course, delay the nomination. OF COURSE, NOT A DOUBT IN THE WORLD.
