Scalia's son rejects conspiracy theories about father's death

The son of the late Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia is rejecting conspiracy theories that his father died of anything other than natural causes.

"Our family just has no doubt that he was taken from us by natural causes," Eugene Scalia said on the Laura Ingraham show on Wednesday. "We accept that. We’re praying for him. We ask others to accept that and pray for him."

The younger Scalia's comments come after the justice's unexpected death on Saturday - and local authorities' decision not to conduct an autopsy - spurred conspiracy theories that something other than a heart attack may have claimed his life.

Donald Trump fueled those rumors on Tuesday when he said he found the location of a pillow on Scalia's bed suspicious.

"They say they found a pillow on his face, which is a pretty unusual place to find a pillow," Trump said, during an appearance on "The Savage Nation" radio show.

The owner of the Texas ranch where Scalia was staying later told CNN that the pillow was not, in fact, found on the justice's face.

"He had a pillow over his head, not over his face as some have been saying," said John Poindexter, owner of the Cibolo Creek Ranch.

Latest news is that when the sheriff showed up and viewed the body he said the pillow was above not on his head. He was the first responder on the scene.

Ho cares what Scalia’s son says. We all know Scalia was murdered because that’s only rationale for the sudden death of a 79 year old obese male, with a long history of heavy tobacco use. /s

I tend to believe the family.

Furthermore: Scalia was 79. A smoker. Overweight. And traveled from his normal elevation (of 10 feet above sea level) to this resort (at 4000 feet above sea level).

I don’t think there was foul play, but there should have been an autopsy to move the certainty to 100% for all who aren’t sold on the idea.

Scalia smoked? That's news to me.

I would contest your assertion that he is "obese," though. According to most lame charts, I'm obese, although I'm in pretty good shape. I'd have to weigh something like 176 (I'm 6'2") to begin being considered "ideal." I'd look like an Ethiopian.

I’m sure the family feels threatened.

Vince Fosters family rejected all conspiracy theories about the death of her husband. When the family receives credible threats accompanied with large cash payments they will say whatever is required of them to say.

Perhaps, but some families are adamantly against the conduct of an autopsy, for religious and other reasons, in the absence of objectively suspect circumstances. I’m willing to bet that Scalia’s family and close friends knew he had seriousness health problems and was living on borrowed, and that his sudden death came as no surprise.

Being a Supreme Court justice, an autopsy should have been performed.

Period.

Scalia was not some recluse who died in the home of his son, he was a visitor in a secluded ranch owned by a Democrat donor.

The decisions made in Texas were incredibly stupid by all concerned, whether his host, judge, coroner, the family.

We’ll be second guessing this forevermore. THANKS, SCALIA FAMILY.

What is the harm in doing an autopsy? A judge on the highest court in the land has passed during an election year... which may indeed help transform america, and we don’t want definitive proof that it was natural causes?

His son says to pray for him? I think it’s a bit late for that.

I’m not sure what to make of all this, but it will be interesting to see what Obama and his ilk try to shove down the necks of real Americans.

I am a traditional Catholic, same religion as the Scalias. While cremation is frowned upon, there's no real issue with autopsies.

I’m 20 years younger than Scalia, and I hear this from my Dr.s all the time.

Maybe, but in CT the law is you do not have to have an autopsy when you reach a certain age and you were not involved in a felony act at the time of your death. I pray and pray I make it, and my daughter knows... no autopsy! I understand he was Supreme Court justice, but maybe his wishes were the same as mine... I respect the family if they are respecting his wishes!

Me too, I’m 6’2 as well, and about a 230lb man. According to those charts I’m morbidly obese heh. Truth is, I’m in rather decent shape, but I’d still like to shed maybe 10 of those pounds.

I still think there’s a lot of smoke and mirrors surrounding this, and perhaps we’ll never know for sure.

First we had 9/11 Truthers, then we had Birthers, now we have Scalia-ers. People who keep spreading this stuff do Justice Scalia and his family no service. He and they deserve better.
