If Republicans Lose the Fight Over Scalia’s Replacement, They Lose Me

Within minutes of the man’s death — and this, by the way, is a man with a wife, nine kids and dozens of grandkids — progressives erupted with applause and jubilation all over social media. Plenty of outlets have compiled some of the celebratory remarks, but that probably isn’t necessary. If you didn’t see it, you can imagine. And keep in mind, these weren’t just a few scattered bad apples, but thousands and thousands of human beings gloating over the still warm corpse of a man so decent and admirable that some of his closest friends belonged to the ideological group now exalting in his demise. And these weren’t merely anonymous trolls on Twitter, but famous folks and folks in media and seemingly regular folks who used their real names and real pictures to post triumphant and sarcastic obituaries. Then, not satisfied with ghoulishly dancing on a freshly dug grave, thousands more began offering their fervent prayers that Clarence Thomas die next.

It was an insane, subhuman display. Evil, and proudly so. Another moment — one of many, often provided by leftists — that made me utterly ashamed of what this country has become.

Suffice it to say, American liberalism defied all odds Saturday night and somehow managed to reach an even lower low than the last low it reached.

There are 11 months until we have a new president, praise the good Lord. That means Senate Republicans must spend 11 months rejecting Obama’s Supreme Court nominations. They’re saying now they’ll hold the line, but forgive me if I feel some skepticism. I’d love to believe they’ll hold the line, but I can’t quite get past the unfortunate detail that they’ve never held the line on anything.

If that’s going to suddenly change — and it must — they have to be prepared for a bloody, dangerous battle. Obama will likely put their heads in a vice, politically speaking, by picking a nominee who’s “mainstream” and “moderate” and has some tenuous connection to the Republican Party. It will all be a ruse, of course. There is no possible way — literally zero chance — that Obama nominates a constitutionalist judge with a record of defending life and liberty. Whoever Obama picks will be pro-abortion, pro-gay marriage, pro-big government, anti-gun and pro-judicial activism. That means whoever he picks will be unacceptable. There is no point in saying, “Yes, but what if he makes a good pick?” He won’t. Certainly we’ll be told it’s a good pick; we’ll be told the pick is “appealing to both sides,” “non-partisan,” so on and so on, but that will be a lie. The only thing that should be appealing to our side is another Scalia, and he’s not going to put another Scalia on the bench. It won’t happen.

They already lost their viability when they dissed the Tea Party and stabbed us in the back when we gave them the House and Senate.

Why do you think Trump is doing so well?

The aforementioned is your answer.

OK. But ending one Congress and starting a new one is different.

The 113th Congress ended session 2 on December 16, 2014, and formally adjourned on January 2 2015. The 115th Congress began session 1 on January 6, 2015.

The "recess" that tripped up Obama was the Article I Section 5 "Neither House, during the Session of Congress, shall, without the Consent of the other, adjourn for more than three days, nor to any other Place than that in which the two Houses shall be sitting."

Both chambers must agree within 3 days to adjourn, but this doesn't end Congress. They can refuse to adjourn and continue to gavel in a pro forma session every three days. There is nobody to do this in the gap between Congresses, so Obama will have 4-6 days of no Congress at all to make a recess appointment.

If they lose the fight on scalias replacement or the fight to curtail immigration from third world toilets they lose.We will be then living in a post conservative world. After that we can only make the country clubbers and corporate rinos pay the taxes that they so loathe since it is all their fault.

The problem is that the GOP has 24 of the 36 Senate seats up for election in in 2016. The Dims only need to win 4 for a tie and 5 to take control of the Senate. Something like 8 of those seats are up in states that went for Obama both times.

What I see playing out is come late September the GOP will find that they are in real danger of losing their majority because the Dims and the media have successfully depicted them as obstructionists placing party over country. In response the Senate concerned about keeping their jobs and holding on to the majority in the Senate will approve Obama’s nominee....

When push comes to shove the GOP will find retaining their majority is far more important than the justice that replaces Scalia. It's imperative that they hold the Senate to fight another day.

As Scalia proves these 80 year old justices are not going to last forever and it the GOP wants to stop the left from packing the Court with liberals for decades to come they must retain control of the Senate. IMHO maintaining control of the Senate is even more important than who is elected president.

Well, I would say the country is lost if they lose the Court. It will be too much of an uphill battle. Obama could create a crisis, run for a third term and the Court will approve it.

Second that. If they give up this fight just so they can win the Presidency on Nov 8, I will never vote in another national election.

After GWB gave away the Congress to Nan and Harry by never standing up to the lefy's non-stop bashing of him, I immediately switched my registration to 'I' after 46 years voting only 'R'.

But 2006 I can only still find 'R' to vote for. I don't see how in 2016 there would ever be a 'D' candidate for any office that I could vote for.

They lost me a while ago. I’m just voting for the most conservative, consistent candidate who is running who happens to be a Republican

Well President Stompy Foot (tm Laz), we have to properly vet this nominee.
Now what that entails is reading and dissecting every case the nominee has defended, prosecuted or presided over.
Now thats going to take awhile.

You see, the reason we’re taking these extraordinary measures is for your own good Mr Supreme Court Destroying (tm Laz) President.

Why, if we were to allow you to place an unworthy jurist on the lands highest court just think of what that could do to your legacy.
Yes sir!
We are going to take whatever steps are necessary to make sure your nominee meets the highest standards possible. Because a president of your caliber deserves it!

Did I mention this is going to take awhile?
You just go ahead and play some golf, we’ll give you a ring if anything turns up.
Just remember, it’s for your good Mr Anti American (tm Laz)President sir.

Ditto this. If the GOP caves and gives away the USSC to the Democrats then I’m done.

I had an email in my box today claiming they’re already planning to cave.

The worst thing that could happen to the Establishment is that they cave on this, then someone like Cruz, who is committed to constitutionalist justices, is elected president and Republicans retain the Senate, perhaps with a lightly more conservative cast of characters, and then three justices resign or die.

After going to the trouble of caving to 0bama so that they can pretend to be conservatives and have a left-wing court block everything (thus presumably retaining power and having the court as an issue), what they don’t need is to have it swing back our way, even further. Then they’d be between a rock and a hard place — either having to be real conservatives and have their own power reduced, or having to be the RINOs they truly are and pee off the base even more — causing several of them to lose their seats.

If we let the Rinos know we want them to block Obama’s nominating of a SCJ, they will do it out of spite. They hate their voters.
