Supreme Court Justice Antontin Scalia died Saturday while on a hunting trip in Texas.
He was 79, a pioneer of conservative thought on the Court, and will be forever remembered for his acerbic wit and legendary quotes.
Now with Republicans both in the presidential race and the Senate saying they’ll stall until 2017 to allow a new Justice to be seated on the court, the question is here: Which candidate do Republicans trust the most to name Scalia’s successor?
The answer, according to an Independent Journal Review poll conducted by Google Consumer Surveys, is Ted Cruz, trailed by Donald Trump and Marco Rubio.
The poll was conducted nationwide among 1,554 likely Republican voters who watched the CBS News GOP debate on Saturday, Feb. 13.

Because we care, we have seen what happens to cult members throughout history, Nazi Germany, Waco, among others. We don’t actually want people to drink the Kool Aid. :)
Trump’s sister was first appointed to the bench by RONALDUS MAXIMUS
Problem is it’s a moot point because Ted isn’t going to be President, but Trump is!
Now I’d be for President Trump appointing Ted Cruz to the SCOTUS. The only problem with that is that with his “standing” in the Senate, they might not confirm him.
Trump would nominate Scott Brown.
“But Trump can nominate Charlie Sheen give us something better than the Constitution.”
Wrong Sheen, Charlie’s father, Martin is the only one qualified, because he “played” the president on TV! Besides, doesn’t Charlie have some form of VD?
"The missiles are flying....hallelujah....hallelujah!"
Heh...you apparently assume a lot of people aren't aware of it, or else you wouldn't have conveniently left that little detail out of your argument.
Scalia was found with a pillow over his head. Marshalls were miles away. The coroner literally phoned the decision in. The interview with someone did not say that Scalia said he didn’t feel well: only that he said he was tired.
Yeah. As in “The Pelican Brief,” Scalia was retired.
“Cruz didn’t even know he had Canadian citizenship? Anyone believe that?”
Do you have any evidence to the contrary? Did he ever reside there as an adult? Did he ever vote there?
I think Cruz was too busy growing up as a US and Texas citizen and learning about the law and Constitution of the US to spend much time learning about Canadian law.
What is really hard to believe is that die-hard Trump supporters rule out Cruz as a second choice because they emote their way through the debate rather than using reason and logic. But I have seen it with my own eyes. It is very real.
“But yet the Cruz support, consisting of people looking for biblical clues in everything he does”
Tin foil hat much?
You sound like Hillary with her vast right-wing conspiracy.
The only people I have seen looking for Biblical clues about Cruz are those who think he is part an evangelical conspiracy, called dominionism, to take over the world for Jesus.
It’s pretty silly. There are very few evangelical Christians in our federal government. Zero on the Supreme Court. And most of the other evangelicals, like Mike Huckabee, are too busy attacking their fellow evangelical, Christian conservatives, to be able to take over the world any time soon.
We have a far greater chance of being taken over by Roman Catholics. Only it is Roman Catholics like Nancy Pelosi who seem to be in power, especially with the death of Scalia.
What I see in Cruz is the MOST conservative across the board, socially, fiscally. No other candidate comes close. Every conservative organization rates him the highest. Why is that?
Scalia’s death benefits Comrade obamatollah.
Alinsky Rule: “The means justify the ends”
Comrade obomatollah taught Alinsky rules to new ACORN recruits.
Rather have either Trump or Cruz than a Clinton or a Sanders.
Good response but I always check and there is never a reply to the truth. They just hit and run.
Yes, I am aware of that.
Well, to start off with - the term, “you people” is used as an arrogant, elitist attitude. I might ask you Cruzbots the same thing - what is wrong with you people who can’t see past the opportunist that Cruz most definitely is - and a liar as well. So, what is wrong with YOU people????
Most all judges are lawyers - thus, the word “law” in the word lawyer. Who in their right mind would appoint a judge to a bench without a law degree? Times have changed, and no president would appoint a SC judge today without a law degree - And, no, I don’t care to retract anything. However, Robert H. Jackson did attend one year of law school, so, he wasn’t some yahoo off the streets. He was also U.S. Solicitor General, and Attorney Geneal of the U.S. It sounds like he had a brilliant mind in understanding the law - and don’t forget - the Legal Library is available for referencing. I doubt anyone today would appoint someone with no degree.
One doesn’t have to be a lawyer to serve on the Supreme Court.
It is a campaign, after all.
No surprise.
No offense meant from my side, we do all start out “ and so is your old man” on these kind of things.
If he does look at Medellin v Texas, it would be agreeable.
Life goes on.
Sorry, not to discount you support in my response.
I thank you for that.
