Donald Trump Says He’d Consider These Two Judges for U.S. Supreme Court

During the Republican debate on Saturday night, Donald Trump floated two names as potential nominees to the U.S. Supreme Court: Judge Diane S. Sykes and Judge Bill Pryor.

“We could have a Diane Sykes or a Bill Pryor, we have some fantastic people,” Trump told the audience. Both judges are well-known conservatives serving on the federal level.

Who is Diane S. Sykes?

Sykes is a federal judge on the United States Court of Appeals for the Seventh Circuit. She was nominated by George W. Bush and confirmed in 2004. She went to Northwestern University and attended Marquette University Law School. She was dropped as a name for the U.S. Supreme Court under President George W. Bush. She was part of the 2011 panel that held a Chicago ban on firing ranges unconstitutional. Prior to being appointed on the federal court, Sykes served as Justice on the Wisconsin Supreme Court.

Who is Bill Pryor?

Pryor is a federal judge in the United States Court of Appeals for the Eleventh Circuit. He was nominated by President George W. Bush in 2003. His nomination was filibustered so in 2004, President Bush installed the former Alabama Attorney General on the court during a congressional recess appointment. Democrats scrutinized Pryor for some of his conservative stands, including on Roe v. Wade. Pryor previously said, according to confirmation hearing testimony, that Roe was “the worst abomination in constitutional law in history.” After a higher court ruling on a Alabama execution case, he allegedly ridiculed the Supreme Court by saying “This issue should not be decided by nine octogenarian lawyers who happen to sit on the Supreme Court.” Most recently, Pryor was nominated by President Obama to sit on the United States Sentencing Commission.

I don’t recall him eversaying his sister would be good for the SCOTUS

Also on Cspan this morning He named examples of conservative judges. I Heard him. He also said that he would appoint someone who was exactly like Scalia, but that person would be hard to find.

Okay, I don't like Trump. And other than this one issue, I wouldn't vote for him in the general election.

But this is enough for me to hold my nose and vote for him.

How about Michael Luttig or Edith Jones? Both should have been on the Supreme Court a long time ago.

Breaking News: Trump said something conservative

All Republicans talk like Conservatives during a primary.

You cannot seriously judge them only by what they said this week.

Too bad Cruz aka Mr. Constitutional lawyer couldn’t name anybody

I would be interested in where Cruz was asked to name someone? You make the claim that he couldn't name someone, then would you be so kind to show where the question was even floated?

If this helps, here is the debate section in question. I don't see the question being posed at all, but perhaps you know something I don't (not that I am holding my breath).

I said Trump said of his sister "I THINK SHE WOULD BE ONE OF THE BEST". That to me is relaying what he thinks "would be best" unless he is lying.

You and Cruz argue like a cheap lawyer - you twist people's words, put them back in the mouths of others, then you beat them over the head for it and then you scream that others have filthy mouths when you are caught out in your lying ways.

Trump's words, spoken in response to a question about what kind of a judge his sister would be, were "I think she would be one of the best."

But you reprhase this to say that he means "what he thinks 'would be best'" unless, as you add, "he is lying."

There is all the difference between "she would be the best" and the rather meaningless phrase "she would be one of the best."

Trump is allowed to say how great he thinks his sister is without anyone taking it to mean anything any more than that.

She is, after all, his sister.

But you Cruzoids are so devoid of loyalty or decency, despite being advocates for "the only true" conservative, that you cannot credit Trump saying nothing more than his sister is great and claim that when someone states how great a family member is, either he means it as a political statement or he is lying.

So far from being true conservatives, you Cruzoids are not even humanoid.

he went way far above just being nice when he said "she would be one of the Best [SCOTUS]". Now that is saying what he considers as "Best". He always says he wants what is "best" for America doesn't he?

You should listen to yourself. Do you know you sound like a first class jerk?

Trump and Cruz are our two best options, no doubt.

I like that Cruz is not for even a touchback amnesty at this point.

But from pushing Roberts to flogging the TPA and giving it a critical vote and then of course his pro-legalization, “out of the shadows”, statements around the time of the Gang of Eight bill, I think he’s given us enough to doubt his campaign promises. He’ll put spin on whatever he does—but you can’t be too sure about what it is he’ll do.

Listen when you compare someone as thinking they would be "one of the best SCOTUS justices" there is not much more elite a position one can bestow upon someone. When you give a compliment, one does not try to overdo it. It then comes off as hollow and disingenuous. Trump already places his sister on a pedestal with "great" "fantastic" and then "phenomenal". That for most would be enough to satisfy the sibling clause of proving your loyalty. But Trump honestly injected perhaps more than he meant too. He added that she "would be One of the Best". Best what? SCOTUS justices of course. Was he joking? I linked the video and it didn't seem like some Oprah Winfrey VP quip said in jest.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j16uMJxgCZU

Jump to 15:45 in the video (because it is a long video)...

Now it is understandable you are obligated to family not to drag them down in the Presidential fray if at all possible. But you are not obligated to use them as an example of near perfection either. Comparing your sister as being in the same tier as SCOTUS material, (and even beyond most of them) is something people like you may want to take as "fruits" but I do. I didn't try to twist anything, otherwise I would of never posted the video and urged others to view it themselves and make up their own minds.

You should listen to yourself. Do you know you sound like a first class jerk?

Happy Valentine's Day to you too.

Instead of just copy pasting from liberal wiki on Judge Moore, perhaps you would be interested in the actual argument presented. The 10th and 11th amendment presented and overlooked by the so-called committee. One of which was from my neck of the woods and I have heard him up close and personal.

The only relevant point is that he was removed by the State of Alabama.

By both the Judicial review committee and upheld by the state Supreme Court UNANIMOUSLY, 8-0.

Of course I'm bettin' you'd claim they weren't real conservatives.

Ted will have to consult his owners to tell him who to pick-—they aren’t providing tens of millions of dollars to him for nothing. LOL. Cruz is totally owned. That also explains his over-the-top support for traitor John Roberts. Cruz knew the score yet vouched for Roberts before the American public. That should tell one all they need to know.
