During the Republican debate on Saturday night, Donald Trump floated two names as potential nominees to the U.S. Supreme Court: Judge Diane S. Sykes and Judge Bill Pryor.
âWe could have a Diane Sykes or a Bill Pryor, we have some fantastic people,â Trump told the audience. Both judges are well-known conservatives serving on the federal level.
Who is Diane S. Sykes?
Sykes is a federal judge on the United States Court of Appeals for the Seventh Circuit. She was nominated by George W. Bush and confirmed in 2004. She went to Northwestern University and attended Marquette University Law School. She was dropped as a name for the U.S. Supreme Court under President George W. Bush. She was part of the 2011 panel that held a Chicago ban on firing ranges unconstitutional. Prior to being appointed on the federal court, Sykes served as Justice on the Wisconsin Supreme Court.
Who is Bill Pryor?
Pryor is a federal judge in the United States Court of Appeals for the Eleventh Circuit. He was nominated by President George W. Bush in 2003. His nomination was filibustered so in 2004, President Bush installed the former Alabama Attorney General on the court during a congressional recess appointment. Democrats scrutinized Pryor for some of his conservative stands, including on Roe v. Wade. Pryor previously said, according to confirmation hearing testimony, that Roe was âthe worst abomination in constitutional law in history.â After a higher court ruling on a Alabama execution case, he allegedly ridiculed the Supreme Court by saying âThis issue should not be decided by nine octogenarian lawyers who happen to sit on the Supreme Court.â Most recently, Pryor was nominated by President Obama to sit on the United States Sentencing Commission.
He either has smart handlers, or did some research.
either way, it makes me feel better about pulling the lever for him if he wins.
the Antonin Scalia statement was classy too.
he could have finally committed political suicide yesterday on both issues and he did not.
that’s good to see.
but we better hold his feet to the fire to appoint those he mentioned, as i dont trust anyone anymore.
I thought it was telling last night that Trump could name two possible replacements for Scalia off the top of his head but Cruz didn’t seem prepared to. Thats the difference between them. Cruz just isn’t ready.
I’ve been pretty certain all along that Trump has plans laid out and people to enact them all along. Knowing Supreme Court Judges would probably need to be replaced, it seems that’s something he’s researched also.
January 20, 2017 is a Friday, Congress better be ready to hit the ground running by Monday. :)
Yes I think Trump is going to hand Ryan and McConnell a Honey do list on the first day in office and a deadline. :-)
Of course he couldn’t nominate his sister, who doesn’t know that? It’s her ideology and his happy acceptance of it that was the point. Sheesh.
Cruz had to choose the lesser evil, as I recall. Saying that Cruz had something to do with Roberts’ name being presented is simply false. It’s all on lamebrain George W, the guy who picked Harriet Miers.
<âSounds like good choices!â
So did Roberts ...>
Both Cruz and Roberts clerked for Supreme Court Justice Rehnquist. So your objection should also apply to Cruz......
Aha. So Pryor is NFG after all. Thanks, Donald. How about Stephen Bunning, the guy who threw the constable in jail for not kowtowing to the rump rangers.
It applies only as a warning to the overconfident ...
“And he said LAST NIGHT when asked by a reporter he WOULD NOT NOMINATE HIS SISTER!.....I think he said ...âbecause of conflict of interestâ ...but I will have to go back and review the tape”
Did you find that tape...if so please post to me as I would love to see it
I mean, it's an absolute certainty that Trump is going to get Goldbrick's seat - and possibly even Breyer & Kennedy! - in his first term. Of course he was prepared.
Where is the synopsis on the person Ted Cruz mentioned?
Cursing and lying, you Trump hemorrhoids take the cake. I never said Trump offered up his sister for the SCOTUS. I said Trump said of his sister "I THINK SHE WOULD BE ONE OF THE BEST". That to me is relaying what he thinks "would be best" unless he is lying. It offer a real life comparison of what he would consider as in the best interest for the country. He wants only the best for this country right? In his own words mind you. I linked the video from just a few months ago and gave the time where to start watching so you didn't waste your time (15:45). You could watch the whole thing if you wanted to, it did have a section where they asked him to elaborate on just one or two of his favorite Bible verses and he blew them off. It was about as awkward as "two Corinthians" walking down the street.

Take your filthy mouth and rotate it.
And, to top it off, those critics are the very same people who promoted Roberts to begin with.
Hypocrites all.
Where did I say he would nominate his sister. I know she is older than Trump and thus would not make a good nomination just due to her age. I pointed out that Trump said some very glowing things about his pro-abortion sister. She was family after all. But he went way far above just being nice when he said "she would be one of the Best [SCOTUS]". Now that is saying what he considers as "Best". He always says he wants what is "best" for America doesn't he? Well it is fishy to say the least that we have a defined "best" and it rabidly supports partial birth abortion. I linked the video, I even took the time to give the time to watch (so you didn't waste your time on finding it because it was rather lengthy). Time 15:45 and video link below.

Odd, did you think Trump was so grand when asked this question a few months ago and he didn't answer? What changed? I DON'T WANT TO MENTION NAMES" - Trump

Hint: Relevant part starts at 15:45 in the video.
Thanks for comedy relief GG, I can always count on you.
The Supreme Court of Alabama rejected each of these arguments as well, and ruled on April 30, 2004 that the COJ had acted properly. The court also upheld the sanction of removal as appropriate.[25]"
Moore was removed by the State of Alabama in accordance with Alabama law.
And, Moore had made it clear for years that he would rule on cases in accordance with Biblical teaching even when that teaching was contrary to the law of Alabama.
Certainly I would have voted for his removal too. One man who believe he has the right to judge cases in accordance with HIS interpretation of Biblical teaching rather than the letter of the law.
He was not fit for office and the State of Alabama agreed.
Too bad Cruz aka Mr. Constitutional lawyer couldn’t name anybody. That’s tragic comedy. :-)
When Trump made his comments about his sister I immediately took it as said in a light hearted jokingly manner. Just Trump being Trump.
