WASHINGTON - The unexpected death of Justice Antonin Scalia creates a complicated situation in Washington to determine his replacement on the high court. Republicans are extremely unlikely to confirm anyone that President Barack Obama nominates in the final months of his second term to replace a justice considered a major pillar of modern conservatism - a position that top Republicans, Republican operatives, and presidential candidates already have made clear on Saturday evening.
"The American people should have a voice in the selection of their next Supreme Court Justice. Therefore, this vacancy should not be filled until we have a new President," Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell said in a statement...

The House plays no role in the confirmation of judges.
The Senate has the sole power to confirm or reject nominees.
It can block any nominee indefinitely.
They did have a say when they reelected Obama. Elections matter.

Currently, these 8 "old people" are the Supreme Court, but many are older than Scalia was.
Don't have a problem with "wise elders", particularly, but there is NO WAY it would be acceptable to replace Justice Scalia with the likes of another Bader-Ginsberg, Sotomayor, Kagan, or Breyer. Also not the "moderate" Kennedy.
Pretty sure there will be NOT be an Obama appointment getting through before a year from now, when we will have a new President. God willing, we pull together, get our opinions out to the Congress-critters, and the Creek don't rise.
Well we can bitch about McConnell, call him names, but right now we need to make it clear we have his back in this fight. He’s got the job, like it or not.

You got that right. Scalia has been my favorite SC Justice for decades. I know I’ll never see another one like him.
Translation: “Rest assured that Senate Republicans stand ready to pave the way for Mr Obama’s selection of the next Justice to the Supreme Court.”
Unfortunately, this country does not produce people like Scalia anymore.
He came from another place and another time that no longer exists.

Obama will try to pick someone that can generate a race or gender angle (black, Hispanic, woman) to set up that narrative.
The Senate has the power to block him, but do they have the courage and character. They damn well better.
