Election, by Proxy.
An extraordinary development has occurred in the 2016 Presidential election.
Supreme court Justice Antonin Scalia has died. A Senate confirmation of any Obama appointment is not likely to happen during this election cycle. The GOP, all be it e, Senate will find this decision way too political for them to make. The Democrat party's two candidates will also want a say on the direction of the Court. This election for the Presidency of the United States of America will be decided by what the people think of their Supreme Court nominees. Much of which will be crafted be our Media and will allow them free rein to attack the Candidates potential nominee.
Election by Proxy.
It's going to get insane.
Americans loved Scalia. Liberals despised him.
If this is so Obama’s executive amnesty is toast until at least next year.
In any case, we might not even have elections in November...
I don’t see the Senate stalling for 11 months.
I’d like to focus this thread on how this news will impact the election.
Who will the leading candidates nominate to the court?
That question is going to be asked of EVERY candidate.
Those names will be placed under a media firestorm like we have never seen before.
If they refrain from naming names and attempt to simply define the “type” of Judge they want? That will also be under the media firestorm.
I would like to see the next president fill this Supreme Court vacancy.
They can just have eight justices on the court until then.
It could result in some 4-4 decisions, which would have the effect of upholding some lower court rulings.
But, correct me if I’m wrong, isn’t it a fact that a tie Supreme Court ruling does NOT set up a legal precedent, that it paves the way for the Supreme Court to take up an issue again when it is fully staffed with 9 justices again??
They will delay.
This is way too political for them to take any position.
Yes 11 months is a long time to put this off.
But it could happen.
On the other hand, Justice Kennedy was confirmed in Feb. 1988, with less than a year to go in Reagan’s term.
The liberals are eager to fill this vacancy. But the GOP has 54 Senators. The Senate is in session, so Obama cannot do a recess appointment if the Senate stays in session the rest of his term. Stay tuned for a major political fight. Will the GOP fight back???
This news will galvanize the America haters more that it will galvanize the America lovers.
That’s my prediction.
Baraq will pick the youngest Pinko judge he can find. Experience, talent, and intelligence will play no part in the selection. Only youth and a reliable Anti-American ideology.
Your comment just reminded me of a scene from “Carlie Wilson’s War”

The thought that the selection of the supreme court justices will be the primary issue going into the election relies in its entirety on the unwarranted assumption that escalating Muslim violence will not make national security the overriding issue with the bulk of the populace.
I assume that since you posted this today you have avoided the threads on Erdogan’s latest move regarding Syria.
I haven’t avoided those threads.
God bless ya Ben.
He was a GREAT man!!
one of my heroes.
one of America’s heroes.
I don't think the Democrats will want to wait. They'll want to replace Scalia right away with a hard-core leftist.
It could happen, but I’m skeptical that Mitch McConnell will hold off for that long. I hope that he will prove me wrong!
I don’t think the Democrats will want to wait. They’ll want to replace Scalia right away with a hard-core leftist.
Bingo!!!!
And who, BTW is their nominee?
Do you think it will be someone that they BOTH agree on?
NO.
They will use any potential Justice as a proxy for their own aims at the White House.
Just watch the news and your head will spin on how fast Scalia’s passing will dominate and attempt top define all our Presidential candidates in both parties.
It’s already started.
CNN was on it within half an hour of breaking the story.
