This is a major economic blow to Indianapolis' struggling manufacturing sector. One of the City's largest employers, Carrier, announced it's closing its manufacturing facility on Indianapolis' west side, eliminating 1,400 jobs. The layoffs will begin in 2017 and be spread over three years according to the Indianapolis Star. Carrier's president of HVAC systems, Chris Nelson, says the move is part of the "continued migration of the HVAC industry to Mexico, including our suppliers and competitors, and ongoing cost and pricing pressures driven, in part, by new regulatory requirements." Let me guess that more than a few of these workers at this Carrier plant who are about to lose their jobs will be casting ballots for Donald Trump this year.
Carrier is also closing its facility in Huntington and moving it to Mexico, putting another 700 Hoosiers out of work.

One of the last large manufacturers in Indianapolis, that has seen tens of thousands of good-paying manufacturing jobs disappear in the last 20 years, including FORD, GE, Chrysler(2 Plants), Navastar, RC/Emerson (3 big Plants), Dana, etc...
Between the costs of government's insane and ever-changing regulations, taxes, and Obamacare, the Steelworkers strike against Carrier doomed them to move out of the country.
Perhaps some of Bernie Sanders mythical Unicorns will save them?
Tariffs for anything coming back.
I was thinking about buying a carrier AC unit
Will look elsewhere now.
Which will accomplish absolutely nothing except to make the rest of us pay higher prices.
Better hurry. The whole industry is leaving.
Bernie’s fault....
700 jobs in Huntington leaving too. It’s not that big of a town, near Fort Wayne. Warsaw has all the biomedical companies, but some of them went to Mexico.
The workers who lost their jobs are going to be paying for it in lost wages. If they can even find a similar job.
The taxpayers are going to be paying for their welfare and lost taxes.
This is not creative destruction, it is destruction, period.
Same here.
Sounds like the sucking sound described by HRoss...
Between the costs of ever-expanding and ever-changing government regulations, UNLIMITED CIVIL LIABILITY, taxes, Obamacare costs, etc., it is a wonder why ANYONE still builds ANYTHING in this country.
Carrier is a big electricity user for example, and Obama’s Enviro decrees have caused electricity rates to TRIPLE for them in just the last 4 years, as IPL shutters it’s coal-fired plants.
Carrier Employees, and the Steelworker’s Union have been BIG OBAMA SUPPORTERS. In the end, they deserve this, but the ripples are going to hurt a lot of people. Liberalism always does, in the end.
Big government is the PROBLEM, not the solution.
Read the labels on everything in your house. Chances are MOST of it is made elsewhere. Are you asking for higher prices to fund bigger government?
Blame big government and big unions and maybe even some blame to chip-on-the-shoulder workers who are not doing the quality work needed while they make more and more demands on the owners.
Bottom line is that it is a big loss for our Country not a gain.
Too many regulations are hurting the economy even more than high taxes. Both need to be reduced so we can grow our economy. Growing the economy is the only thing that is going to save the Government from bankruptcy.
With tariffs, we can raise the price of Mexican goods to cancel out this low-pay advantage.
That protects American competitors, and as always, American consumers can still choose whether to pay more for imports, or to pay less for made in USA.
Soon they will say “Please senor, we would like to pay for The Wall now.”
Sure better to shut down all of our factories. /s
With all these companies moving out of the U.S., how do they think the American people are going to be able to afford their goods?
It’s stuff like this that is driving up Trump’s poll numbers. Americans are sick to death of being the last man on the totem pole in their own country.
We also just found out that making a government official "cross" can result in Federal felony charges of "impeding".
1400 new Trump voters ...
