Ted Cruz's campaign has pulled its most recent ad, "Conservatives Anonymous," after learning one of the actresses in the spot is also a softcore porn star.
The ad, which was set at a group therapy session of conservative voters who feel betrayed by Marco Rubio on immigration, featured actress Amy Lindsay, who played a woman telling another group member, "maybe you should vote for more than just a pretty face next time."
Lindsay has appeared in several softcore porn films, including Erotic Confessions, Carnal Wishes, Secrets of a Chambermaid, and Insatiable Desires.
BuzzFeed News, after learning of Lindsay's prior filmography, requested comment from the Cruz campaign. Cruz spokesman Rick Tyler told BuzzFeed News in a statement that the campaign is taking the ad down and replacing it with a different one.
"The actress responded to an open casting call. She passed her audition and got the job. Unfortunately, she was not vetted by the production company. Had the campaign known of her full filmography, we obviously would not have let her appear in the ad," Tyler said.
Prior to the Cruz campaign pulling the ad, Lindsay told BuzzFeed News in a phone interview on Thursday that she's a Christian conservative and a Republican. While she emphasized that she did not do hardcore porn and that she also appeared in non-erotic films, Lindsay said she thinks it is cool that an actress who has appeared in softcore porn could also appear in Cruz's ad.
"In a cool way, then hey, then it's not just some old, white Christian bigot that people want to say, 'It could be, maybe, a cool kind of open-minded woman like me,'" she said of people supporting Cruz.
Though Lindsay initially told BuzzFeed News that the person at the campaign who hired her "absolutely knew everything that I had done," she later called back to say that she realized that was not the case.
"I have clearly talked to the filmmakers and stuff and just to be clear, I assumed that they knew but none of the filmmakers or the casting director knew about my complete filmography in the past that you're talking about, so I was wrong in that statement," Lindsay said, saying that she had assumed that an old friend of hers from an acting class who was present when she was hired was aware of her film history.
Lindsay said she is currently deciding whether to support Cruz or Donald Trump.

Sounds too much like a Trump plant Op.
So at work here in California, we heard this ad on a news item (I personally heard it first on the radio during a lunch break with another from work who literally broke out laughing when he heard the news item), and folks at work also picked up on it, a totally lame Ted Cruz campaign ad that is supposed to be a hit job on Rubio (who no one here much supports, either, we are Trump supporters here in California), and the first reaction as said is laughter because the message is vote for someone who is principled or something (viz Ted) and not just someone with a “pretty face” (viz Marco).
Of course, the immediate reaction in the minds of anyone taking in this lame ad, is exactly the OPPOSITE of whatever dumb thing Ted Cruz was trying to convey, they immediately imagine in their mind the a photo of Ted Cruz’s face next to Marco Rubio’s face and think, “yup, Ted looks ugly or Nixonian, and Marco looks handsome or John Kennedy/Camelot like”...
Ted Cruz doesn’t even realize how this is going to backfire? That everyone is going to make fun of his looks next to Rubio’s, now?
This guy cannot think this out, he is supposed to have a better head on his shoulders then this laughable mistake.
And the next reaction of folks at work was, “what does Ted Cruz mean by ‘pretty’? - is he trying to subtlety say Marco Rubio is a homosexual?”
Everyone is now saying Cruz is an idiot with this ad. I mean, trying to say Marco is a homo just because he is way better looking than Ted is pathetic, and first of all the word “pretty” isn’t appropriate, it should have been handsome, yes Marco is way more handsome than Ted Cruz. But no one is going to vote for Rubio just because he looks good and Ted doesn’t, but the point is the ad exposes Ted as a fool and someone to laugh at. The ad is a total backfire and something that is the butt of jokes at the watercooler.
And soon the butt of jokes everywhere and in media circles, too.
And now we are hearing on the news, Ted had a “soft” porn star in this or some ad. This combined with Heidi Cruz running around saying Ted is “the face of God”, reminds folks that it seems Ted via his dad is mixed up in some cult of something that thinks a conservative can only be someone who is a member of their sect or cult of some minority Christian group, and a minority group within the broader religion at that. Besides pretty much cultic in nature, most other Christians there are do not agree at all that Ted Cruz is the personal “face of God”, America is not about to worship him as some anointed King like his dad is telling us.
Ted Cruz is going to get slaughtered in the election, this isn’t about being ruled by some sect, and a “true conservative” doesn’t mean only members of his sect or his cults are “true”. And if one is going to try and say Rubio is a homosexual, just come out and say it, say “I think he is gay” and not this stuff “pretty” which is a pathetic implication Rubio is gay, just say it without this nonsense and if you think someone is a “p†just say it, not this “young cat like” stuff, this use of “pretty”, this idiocy makes the ad seem so sophomoric it isn’t even funny.
Actually, it is funny. Everyone is laughing at it. This guy seems to know how to throw away an election. Jiminy Cricket, I am really rethinking even any idea this guy could even be a VP choice. I will not be surprised if soon we see another face of Ted Cruz besides the one that isn’t handsome like Rubio, and that is the one like the preacher guy back when, what was his name?, blaring with tears down his eyes, “I have SINNNNNED!!!!” – how do we know if Ted didn’t know this gal was a porn star? Because he says so?
Even if not, the jokes are now going to go wild. This guy cannot manage his campaign which is now imploding with mistake after mistake and with no sense as to what the American people care about in this election, and it isn’t “Ted is the Face of God” stuff, it is the economy, Islamic terrorism and the “refugees” and in no small way criminal and illegal aliens. Period. I predict now he is going to lose S.C.. He will probably even lose Texas, his “home state” as the economy implodes more and with the massive layoffs coming to Texas, the bad economy will likely flip Texas to Trump as much as his campaign mistakes, because folks will turn to Trump as the go to guy on the economy, not Ted.
The clips I saw do not help, though the kids seem sweet, and his mom too.
Insert any of the other candidates’ names from any political party if you prefer. I don’t expect any of them to attend casting calls or check filmographies.
I love having Ted Cruz representing me in the state of Texas.
I also believe he will make a great President.

You have boat loads of ad hominem attacks and those have always worked for decades now.
But that is why this nation is here today. And even if it works for another round, it will NOT makes this nation great again.
At some point, someone will have to make an honest political argument about the merits of policy and leadership.
We can see that will not be coming from your camp.
Cruz has successfully won five Supreme Court cases— not because of his looks— not because of his religion— not because of a video— and not because your ridicule amounts to anything anyone should really care about.
Cruz has strong arguments and those are evident in the debates.
Cruz won a primary and Trump won a primary. Cruz spent almost nothing on New Hampshire. Cruz’s chances in SC look really good.
The venomous hatred spewed here at FR against Cruz is fascinating but again, I will not stand down.
