INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. (Feb. 10, 2016) â Carrier plans to relocate its Indianapolis operations to Mexico over the next three years, a move that will affect about 1,400 jobs.
Jobs will begin transitioning to Monterrey, Mexico, in 2017, with completion estimated in 2019. The company manufactures heating, ventilating, air conditioning and refrigeration systems at its plant located on West Morris Street.
Too many people using AC anyway. Not good for the planet. Troubling!
You are right, that would keep the cartels happy.......
Nope. Reagan’s Fault(tm). We could blame him for the formation of the WTO much the same way, but it’s obvious why protectionists do not.
Trumps. Right. Again.
Just curious, I went to Cruz’s website to see what he would do about stopping jobs from leaving the US, ending corporate inversion, bringing back US company capital, etc:
https://www.tedcruz.org/issues/jobs-and-opportunity/
Not much. Ted would end the “Waters of the US” rule, tell Congress to pass something called the REINS Act, approve the Keystone Pipeline (sorry Ted, TransCanada says it’s too late), do something about “internet freedom”, and then tell Congress to repeal Obamacare and pass his Flat Tax proposal.
Cruz’s job would be to affix his signature to these laws after Congress initiates, debates, and passes them.
In other words, Ted Cruz says he would be the kind of President who would wait for Congress to do stuff and then take credit for it. And even then, this is going to help the 1400 people out of a job in Indy....how??
Do you want a PROVEN ECONOMIC WINNER negotiating with corporate leaders to restore jobs in the US or someone who hasn’t even run a lemonade stand trying to get Congress to pass “his plan”?
GO TRUMP!
Buy fair trade coffee!
Like a said before we are all excited at how Carrier is going to lower prices across the board now that labor is so much cheaper in Mexico. /sarcasm
Here’s the Carrier list of brands:
Bryant
Carrier
Payne
International Comfort Products (Arcoaire, Comfortmaker, Day & Night, Heil, KeepRite, and Tempstar)
Linde Refrigeration
Noresco
Totaline
Transicold
How? I know that Trump supporters now are starting to see him as all powerful and capable of working miracles, but exactly how will he save these jobs? If it costs less to have the work done in Mexico, how will Trump lower the production costs here in the US to compete? Or do you think that Trump can wave a magic wand and impose crippling tariffs on the offending companies, ignoring the fact that such tariffs would have to first be approved by Congress?
Lay this at the feet of ObamaCare and unbelievably stupid regulations.
It’s impossible to build anything new in the USA.
You mean Cruz would be a President who actually follows the Constitution??? Oh the HORROR!
>So how do these US companies, who move to Mexico, deal with the cartels and corruption?
I suspect deals are made with the Cartels to protect certain people. It’s all about money in the end.
Your comment, not surprisingly, betrays a fundamental misunderstanding of capitalism.
I have to say that I don't know about it personally, so you are probably right. I'm judging it by the news and conversations with people who have family still living there who say THEY don't go back like they used to.
We have to have stronger AC to combat Global Warming....
I didn’t read the story that United Technologies, the parent company of Carrier, was losing money and was not making a profit. Could you post it? Also are you looking forward to the lowering in price of Carrier A/C units since their prod costs are so much lower now?
Lay this one at the feet of Billy Boy Clinton and that NAFTA nightmare.
Do not forget it was Newt and the GOP that pushed it through congress.
Having been involved in similar corporate decisions I will tell you how. All public companies are at the mercy of their shareholders and stock analysts, and the market is based on emotion and “feelings” much more than facts and data. A phone call from a President Trump to the CEO of Carrier would have staffers scrambling for Plans B, C, and D before the sun set, “I can tell you that”. Even a minor disturbance in the force that creates confidence in a company’s earning potential can translate into hundreds of millions of dollars of stock price value, and ultimately into one of those execs hearing the famed words “You’re fired” from their boards.
It is indeed “the art of the deal”, and Trump is a master at it.
As proof of what I say I will add that for every off-shoring move I’ve seen go forward, there are probably a half-dozen that have been scrapped. Why? Various reasons, but political pressure and the fear of a backlash that could affect company futures is definitely one of them. Like terror attacks, more people are never aware of the ones that do not go to completion.
1400 more votes for Trump ...
Not an answer. Ok I will try again my slippery friend: Will the move to Mexico cause Carrier to lower the price of their A/C equipment passing on the savings of lowered production cost to the consumer? Please answer Yes or No.
“I believe in a free market. They should be able to build their air conditioners where ever they want. Itâs a business decision.
Just slap a 100% tariff on air conditioning equipment brought in from Mexico.”
I agree, but be careful, some FReepers will call that “evil”, “statist”, and “Marxist”. You’re “fencing people in”, LOL!
