PETERBOROUGH, N.H.-Ted Cruz on Sunday said he opposes requiring women to register for a potential draft, breaking with Marco Rubio, Jeb Bush and Chris Christie, all of whom indicated support for opening up the Selective Service to women during Saturday night's debate.
"I have to admit, as I was sitting there listening to that conversation, my reaction was, 'Are you guys nuts?'" Cruz said Sunday, speaking at a town hall here. "Listen, we have had enough with political correctness, especially in the military. Political correctness is dangerous. And the idea that we would draft our daughters to forcibly bring them into the military and put them in close combat, I think is wrong, it is immoral, and if I am president, we ain't doing it."
To applause, Cruz went on to note that he is a father to two daughters, and he wants them to follow their dreams.
"But the idea that their government would forcibly put them in a foxhole with a 220-pound psychopath trying to kill them doesn't make any sense at all," he said.
The previous night, at the presidential debate, Rubio said he had no problem with women in combat, and added, "I do believe Selective Service should be opened up for both men and women in the case a draft is ever instituted."
Bush made a similar argument but stressed that there is no draft and he is not calling for reinstating one.
Christie was less explicit, but more broadly indicated openness to allowing women to register for the Selective Service.
“Women could have separate units. But really, since gays are in there and that also harms cohesiveness, I do not see how that can be an issue any longer. Why should gay men get to serve with the objects of their sexual desire but not hetero men? Or women.”
Gay men, if they out themselves while in the service, should immediately be kicked out of the service. Gays also destroy military cohesiveness, if proven gay while serving. They will be seen as “the other” by their fellow troops. They should not be allowed into the military in the first place, if found out to be gay.
I think all the PC applications being foisted on our military are disgusting in the extreme, and you don’t jeopardize our military men by subjecting them to PC. Your desire to prove a point that women if they open their big mouths (the feminazi ones) and want equality in all areas of life, whether suited for it or not, should be given what they want, has the end result of putting our troops in danger. These female dykes and those women they manage to bamboozle should NOT be given what they want, and neither should you. Both of you endanger our military men.
Go against your baser instincts here, and think about your country and military’s well-being rather than your desire to stick it to a certain segment of disgusting women and the liberal PC men that support them. You can still hate these types of women and men on your own time without sticking it to our troops.
No.
But we aren’t talking about the volunteer army, but the selective service (draft) where you don’t have a choice in the matter.
I have heard Obama’s military commanders say that too. I don't believe it. The reason I don't believe it is because it is not true.
Standards will be lowered.
Wrong. You fit people to the job that needs to be done. A woman is ill suited for battle conditions so it would be folly to place them in that job.
People have to be qualified for their position. You wouldn’t hire someone to be a typist who can’t type. I suppose for your argument that IF a woman demands to be put into a fighting unit because she wants equality, you may have a point but she still needs to be qualified. I seriously doubt that, if the standards are maintained, she would be qualified.
“FYI: I am female and would totally submit to this requirement if I were of draft age. Would I be terrified? Absolutely. But it is fundamentally wrong to entirely change the rules but for this one area. My life is not more valuable than a manâs life. I have to die sometime. I think that would be a very honorable way to go.”
No it isn’t fundamentally wrong, and hasn’t been throughout thousands of years of history. Now, suddenly in our very PC age, it is somehow right to have physically weaker, totally unsuited to combat women going into battle. Does not compute. And you drag other women who know better down into your same cesspool of politically correct thought with you.
You endanger our fighting men by placing yourself next to them in the foxhole. Stop thinking about yourself and think about our fighting forces, our men who don’t want you on the front lines, and for very good reasons. Remove your egocentricity from the equation.
Dead story? It was on all of the news programs today. This story of deception is just starting. I hope it doesn’t hurt the chances of Dr. Carson endorsing Teddy.
Right on Ted. Right on.
And that is a noble sentiment that I applaud you for.
But I will also honestly tell you that I would prefer another MAN to be guarding my son's back in combat should he be in a "face to face" fight with the enemy.
I also want another MAN to be around to carry my son off the battle field should he become injured.
"Equal" be damned.....women/girls are NOT physically made the same as men, no matter how many times a LIBERAL (and now RINOS) try to tell you they are.
See, this shows me that politics isn’t everything to Cruz, that there’s more to him than many of the candidates. He just comes across as sincere.
Cruz is so correct. REAL MEN don’t send women into battle.
I know a woman who was from the WWII era, and she said that she and her friend wanted to sign up. They were told that the military does not take women, because a woman could be pregnant.
They were right, especially since a woman can be pregnant and not even know it. A woman’s life, and her baby’s, would be at risk.
Cruz is wrong here. As a woman it is not ‘nuts’ at all. If women want the to be able to serve in combat roles then they should be subject to Selective Service same as men. I was rejected from the military due to hearing loss, but would have gladly served - not being able to is one of the few regrets I have in life.
//I know a woman who was from the WWII era, and she said that she and her friend wanted to sign up. They were told that the military does not take women, because a woman could be pregnant.//
Total BS. My great aunts all served in WWII military, WAC and WAVES. One aunt’s best friend flew combat missions.
Bingo and Amen!
And BTW, I am a better marksman than most men I know and I reload my own ammo.
-— What’s “nuts” about it? -—
Have you ever heard the expression, “women and children first”?
That was when we were a sane society.
Playing the race card now. Nice. But a typical leftist tactic from the rabid Trump-Humpers.
We’re already uncivilized. same-sex “marriage” and killing babies in the womb equals uncivilized to me.
No dude you are wrong. A draft would assure statistically that equal numbers of men and women are selected. Actually more women would be drafted than men because women outnumber men
I assume you were in one of the services but it doesn’t matter either way unless you make statements like “ the Army is the Army”.
So now you have more than half of the draftees who have to be trained and assigned somewhere right?
Now that you’ve wasted all that money and time training people who can not fight what do you do with them?
There are not enough rear echelon mos’s or support units to hide soldiers who can not and should not fight.
Thoughts on that?
I don’t know what the ladies meant, but perhaps they wanted to sign up for the front lines, which is what would happen if we allowed the politically-correct registration/draft for women.
Yeah, if you have too many persons for the slots available, you don’t need the draft.
Very sensitive of you..../
