Poll: Trump’s lead grows in NH days before primary

Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump’s lead widened in New Hampshire just days before the primary, according to the latest CNN/WMUR tracking poll.

Thirty-three percent of likely Republican primary voters said they support Trump, giving the billionaire a 17-point lead over his closest GOP rival. Trump gained 5 points from a similar tracking poll last week.

Trump now has more than double the support of Sen. Marco Rubio, who came in second with 16 percent support.

Sen. Ted Cruz has 14 percent for third place.

Gov. John Kasich follows with 11 percent, while no other GOP candidate broke single-digit support.

The poll, according to CNN, was completed as Saturday’s debate in New Hampshire started.

No way. I have it on good authority that Trump is imploding as we speak because he lost Iowa by four points and got one less delegate than Cruz did.

I don’t have a clue about Nevada.

Nevada is very predictable.

I don't think it is propaganda. Trump does not have much in a ground game and that hurt him in Iowa and will hurt him in NH, too.

I have read in multiple publications that he does not want to spend the money. Trump feels the voters will come out based on his strong personality. Trump has discovered you need more than that.

It took a year for Cruz to build his ground game in Iowa, spent a lot of money and it paid off. For someone who brags about how great they are, Trump has ignored his ground game and it doesn't make him look so great. He now knows all the rules in politics can't be broken.

After his loss, I read where Trump's campaign asked for anybody who wanted to volunteer to come to NH and they would pay for food and lodging. However, you can't make a good ground game in a week. I read that a household in NH had received 5 phone calls from Trump's campaign after they were told they were voting for Carly. It so happens his wife is running Carly's campaign and he has run other campaigns in the past, but is not involved this year. He did give the Trump campaign credit for trying to get it together, but he noted that the 5 phone calls were a waste of time. Once a campaign identifies you as supporting another candidate, that the phone calls should go to uncommitted voters. He said they needed to be more efficient.

I read that in Iowa, Trump was the only candidate who did not spend money on an up to date phone system that automatically dials the next number and connects you when someone answers. Trump's call center used old fashioned call sheets and the callers own cell phones to reach voters, which means they reached significantly less number of voters.

I realize he is spending his own money for the most part, and I'm sure he is trying to spend as little as possible, but for someone who is selling himself as competent and he knows what he is doing and he is great at everything, why is his campaign infrastructure second rate? After all, one of Obama's big campaign themes was that he was qualified to be president based on how well he ran his campaign. Obama did run a top notch campaign and ran circles around Romney and McCain.

I like both Trump and Cruz and will vote for either, but knowing that Trump really can't or won't run a well oiled campaign gives me pause.

Anyway, everything I have read seems to indicate no one believes Trump margin will be nearly as big as the polls - there are just too many candidates running and Kasich and Christie are much stronger here than in Iowa. Also, this belief was based before the debate and no one really knows how much Rubio hurt himself. We will know on Tuesday night.

I’ve got a bridge to sell ya if you seriously believe this...

The chief narcissist is so obsessed with popularity, I guarantee the man has internal polling done...

If he didn’t, that alone should be enough to disqualify him from office. Waging a battle with your eyes closed is foolish, and will lead to your demise.

If Trump holds at 33% it's pretty bad news for constitutionalists. 25% Would be great news for constitutionalists.

After SC the race will be down to Trump, Cruz and Rubio, the populist, constitutionalist and Establishment representatives.

If Cruz and Rubio can take 65% (or more) of the delegates, hopefully they can work something out at the convention.

The GOPe will rig the convention if Trump comes in big. Advantage: Bush. Rubio second.

I sincerely HOPE people drop the GOP like boiling water.

Incorrecto. I completely understand the difference between a primary and a caucus. But it appears that pollsters and the media did not. Either that or they had a different agenda.

Constitution says must be NBC to run for president.
I am convinced Abdul Aziz born in Saudi Arabia to a Saudi father and American mother is not NBC.

Totally disagree. You can’t just assume that every primary automatically selects the candidate who will perform best in the general election, GOPe money got Romney elected, not any political talents.
