Natalie Marie Keepers was denied bond on Thursday as prosecutors presented evidence that she plotted to kill and hide the body of 13-year-old Nicole Lovell.
Virginia Tech students Keepers, 19, and David Eisenhauer, 18, worked together to draw up a sophisticated plan to kill Nicole Lovell, prosecutors said. They bought a shovel, picked out a location together in a calculated move, Montgomery County Commonwealth's Attorney Mary Pettitt said during the hearing.
The plan was for Eisenhauer, charged with Lovell's abduction and murder, to lure Lovell out of the home on the guise of the date. They would take her to the site they selected and slit her throat, Pettit said.
Eisenhauer told police he had communicated to Lovell in he days before her disappearance and he greeted the teen outside of her bedroom window at the Lantern Ridge apartment complex in Blacksburg, Pettitt said.
Eisenhauer said he left and returned to Virginia Techâs campus. Keepers has also maintained she was not present at the time of the murder. Police said she helped Eisenhauer load the body into the trunk of his Mercedes and load it into the location where she was dumped.
Prosecutors said they believe Keepers helped kill someone she never met or talked to. Pettitt also said that at one point before the murder Keepers had expressed she was happy to be a part of something exciting and secret with Eisenhauer.
Police have said Eisenhauer had a previous relationship with Lovell, which he allegedly used to abduct and kill her.
Police havenât released how the two met, but Kik Interactive, which operates an anonymous messaging service used by Lovell, has said it turned over evidence to the FBI that it believes helped lead to the arrests.
Lovellâs body was found Saturday in North Carolina, just across the Virginia state line, after she had gone missing earlier in the week. A preliminary autopsy report stated the girl was likely stabbed to death.
Keepers is charged with being an accessory before and after the fact to a first-degree murder in Nicole Lovellâs death and with helping dispose of Lovellâs body.
A rope and tree would be just fine for these 2. Both a waste of human skin.
Totally evil. So this was basically a thrill killing?
Also, anybody notice how much the miserable excuse for a human being Keepers looks like the young Hillary Clinton?
Oh! I get it. The author meant;
Sounds like a book I just read.
At least they hadn't gotten to the torture part of the escalation.
I hope they get the death penalty but their ages might work against that.
I don’t get why college students would kill a 7th grader. I really do not understand. If they are found guilty, I hope they are executed in as heinous a way as allowed by law.
All so senseless, and evil barely begins to describe both of these people. They can both die a slow torturous death while they plead to be saved, and it would not solicit emotions from me.
This running athlete will probably get the death penalty but how many decades will it take before they execute him? Probably quite a while.
what was the motive?
I have yet to read any kind of motive. It really does appear that two evil people decided on a thrill killing.
They sound like Satanists, took her somewhere to slit her throat? Maybe the girl should get the DP too, even if she was not at the actual murder. Unbelievable.
I read somewhere: “A new study by University of Virginia law professor Brandon Garrett shows a dramatic decline in the death penalty in Virginia over the last decade. Virginia has carried out the third highest number of executions since the 1970s and historically has executed a higher percentage of its death-row prisoners than any other state. However, Garrett said there are now fewer than two capital sentencing trials per year and Virginia juries have not imposed any new death sentences since 2011. Reviewing Virginia capital proceedings from 2005 to 2014, Garrett found that “[a]lmost all capital cases are now plea bargained,” with only 21 proceeding to a capital sentencing hearing. Juries imposed life sentences in more than half of those cases”
This is Virginia, if the trial is held in Montgomery County, he will get the death penalty. They might let her pled out, but that option might have went away with this today. The mood has been pretty ugly locally and this is not going to make it better.
Hanging's too good for them. Execution needs to be slow and painful.
I want to know the “why”...why they did this....

Her father said that “When he found out, it was like a punch to a stomach.”
The Commonwealth attorney said that Keeper told police that Keepers and Eisenhauer sat down and bounced ideas off of each other on how to kill Lovell.
According to the Commonwealth attorney, they agree at the time that they should cut Lovell’s throat.
We will have the latest information for you.

Court documents show Keepers began planning the murder in early January.
CNN is now reporting that David Eisenhauer, the second Virginia Tech student arrest, and Nicole Lovell had an inappropriate relationship. That’s according to investigators on this case.
They also report Lovell was going to expose that relationship and investigators believe Eisenhauer stabbed her to prevent that.
Before Lovell disappeared, Pettitt said Eisenhauer and Keepers planned the murder and went to the Walmart in Christiansburg and bought a shovel...
According to Pettitt, the murder happened on Craig Creek Road in Blacksburg. After the murder, Keepers helped load Lovellâs body into Eisenhauerâs Lexus. They drove to the Walmart in Wytheville and bought cleaning supplies, and then dumped Lovellâs body in Surry County, North Carolina.
