PRINCETON, N.J. -- Gallup's analysis of political party affiliation at the state level in 2015 finds that 20 states are solidly Republican or leaning Republican, compared with 14 solidly Democratic or leaning Democratic states. The remaining 16 are competitive. This is the first time in Gallup's eight years of tracking partisanship by state that there have been more Republican than Democratic states. It also marks a dramatic shift from 2008, when Democratic strength nationally was its greatest in recent decades.

You would like to see Delaware have the same number of Electoral Votes as Texas?
I do beleive he’s saying that the EV’s should be apportioned according to the vote distribution within each state...
How you thought he said Delaware should have a many EV’s as Texas, I have no idea...
That presents a very bleak outlook.
The Dems would only need to win the already solidly Democratic Pennsylvania and Michigan as well as Ohio, Iowa or Wisconsin to win.

Well you have to admit the Chicago Mob made the term “lame duck” president totally obsolete.
Thanks for breakdown of electoral votes. Please remember that Maine and Nebraska can split up their votes.
Louisiana has a Democratic governor.
“Democrat” please.
True, but it only matters in a 268 or 269 scenario. We need to have a real victory this time, not just squeak by. Immigration will sell very well in the rust belt and this year we don’t have candidates afraid to bring it up. I think we can take Wisconsin, Michigan, and Ohio with the immigration issue alone.
Itâs an elegant system where there is a balance between small and large states.
I don’t think we’re on the same page...I’m questioning why a state having a 51-49 Dem to Rep percentage after the votes are tallied, are the EV’s not distributed in the same percentage...
Interesting.
There is only ONE state where more people self-identify as liberal than moderate...Vermont.
OTOH, I count 21 states where more people self-identify as conservative than moderate, including Wisconsin.
And there are 47 states (!) where more people self-identify as conservative that those who self-identify as liberal. Only exceptions are VT, MA and RI.
Conservatism sells.
Good analysis.
Where do you put Nebraska?
Short answer: that’s up to each State.
Longer answer: A State that would divide its electors in a proportional system would lose some of their power. If, for example, Ohio were to do that, as a Democrat, you wouldn’t need to campaign there knowing you would pick up 14 or 15 electors minimum. You would focus on a winner take all State.
So the States don’t want to dilute their influence by going proportionally.
Now the Democrats have been trying to convince the States to join together and go for a proportional system based on the over all popular vote, but that would again give greater influence to the urban areas, and no rural State is interested in joining that system. The heavily urban, usually Democrat leaning, States are in favor of the idea, but not if they lose some power to the rural States.
So it’s not going to happen in the foreseeable future.
I would put it solid GOP, although Gallup has it leaning. Lincoln gave Obama 1 EV in 2008 I think, but the rest of the State is solid GOP.
Ping
I will take any win, even 270-268.
They will cave to whomever is President. We need to make sure that President is a non-RINO Republican.
yeah but two solid blues have a gazillion electoral votes.
CA and NY. we used to be able to offset them with Ohio and Florida. now those are a fight
San Antonio too. Heck. It’s where our next nightmare Marxist la rasa candidate Castro was mayor and got hand plucked from this corrupt group of White House squatters to be head of some stupid Washington based department
31.5% - Black
9.3% - Hispanic
54.3% - White
Turn out is the key.
Blacks and Hispanics stayed home in 2014.
Romney beat Obama by 8% in 2012.
White voters need to support the Republican nominee at 70% or higher, or else the Democrat wins.
We need to form a third party...
I hate to be negative but the solid red are mostly cow pasture and very few people.
Most of America is populated by the stupid and the sheeple.
Cut it at the Appilachians and make kalifornia into Bangladesh and Illinois into a work farm penal colony.
