PRINCETON, N.J. -- Gallup's analysis of political party affiliation at the state level in 2015 finds that 20 states are solidly Republican or leaning Republican, compared with 14 solidly Democratic or leaning Democratic states. The remaining 16 are competitive. This is the first time in Gallup's eight years of tracking partisanship by state that there have been more Republican than Democratic states. It also marks a dramatic shift from 2008, when Democratic strength nationally was its greatest in recent decades.

There’s Obama’s legacy.
So what. The red states’ representatives also control congress but they don’t do squat.
I’ve been reasonably satisfied with my representatives from Texas in Congress. Maybe you should be addressing that in your state.
That map lies. Texas is solid red.
I live in a solid blue state, yea....
Sometimes i wonder why i even bother to vote.
Useless stat. We do not count states in presidential election, we count electoral votes.
Anyone willing to do the math?
How many Electotal Votes are solid Republican, how many are solid Democratic?
We'll take you here in Texas.
Sadly, the electoral college does not apportion votes equally among states.
I also don't at all see MN, MI, PA, LA, GA or ME as "competitive." Likewise, no way, NO WAY, does NH lean Republican. Don't know about AZ and TX, but people from those states will have to say what they think. I had thought GA and AZ were consistently rated as the two most conservative states in the country, though.
Either way, look at the map and realize that the GOP needs all three swing states (VA, OH, FL), plus at least one state that hasn't gone for the GOP since 2004 or earlier. If we can't take the White House this time around, I would consider it a strong indication that the GOP has become a regional party only.
Louisiana and Georgia competitive? Ha.
Well the Dems get NY, CA, and IL without spending a penny.
So that’s 107 ev head start.
“Sadly, the electoral college does not apportion votes equally among states.”
You would like to see Delaware have the same number of Electoral Votes as Texas?
Which shows the GOPe claim that Cruz can’t win because he can’t gain any states Obama won is nonsense.
I was actually more interested in the trend. But yeah, Cal, NY, and Ill all falling into commie hands is not good for the election.
That poll must be based on voting age population or some similar lame, unrepresentative of who-shows-up-for-elections polling group. Calling GA “competitive” is a laugh. I think every statewide office is held by a Republican. Jason Carter and Sam Nunn’s niece got trounced for Governor and U.S. Senator in 2014.
So I just skimmed the article at the link, and I’m right. “all U.S. adults”. LOL, useless at best, a push-poll lie is probably more like it.
Louisiana has a Democratic governor.
Louisiana has a Democratic governor.
