Sources told CNN Wednesday that Rick Santorum is dropping out of the 2016 presidential race.
"Another GOP departure: CNN has learned @RickSantorum will exit race tonight. Plans endorsement."
-- John King (@JohnKingCNN) February 3, 2016
The former Pennsylvania senator's exit comes close on the heels of Kentucky Sen. Rand Paul 's Wednesday announcement.
Huckabee and Santorum were on that stage with Trump because their debate was over and they wanted to support veterans. Santorum was the most conservative candidate in the field, not Cruz. He’s also a devout Christian, who doesn’t compromise his principles for a vote, Cruz does. Santorum would make a great VP pick for anyone. No OJT needed.
Santorum will endorse Trump or possibly Christie. Trump brings the most $$$ - not suggesting payoff, but rather business contacts - Rick is an attorney. Plus potential cabinet position.
It’s high risk, high reward for Santorum.
True heresy from Rick re the unborn, though, b/c Trump is not pro-life. Let’s face facts.
I am guessing he will endorse the candidate that promises him a cabinet position.
No more con-servatives.
We need a leader, not another law clerk lawyer turned politician.
I assume Rand will be a perennial candidate like his pops. The apple doesn’t fall far from the tree here, IMO.
I remember he worked with Romney on debate prep after he dropped out in 2012. I don’t know which candidate he will endorse, but maybe he will help out with that again.
Maybe, but as far as job security goes, the Senate seems preferable.
I’m sure both of his supporters would switch to whoever he endorses.
Maybe he’ll support the partial birth abortion and same-sex marriage candidate.
rofl!
How many babies has Trump killed? Zero
How many laws has Trump passed that support abortion? Zero
And yet, with both houses of congress, we still can not get Planned Parenthood federally defunded because Obama would be mad if we did......
As do I. While I disagreed with him on his Constitution/State's Right view, he is a good man who was willing to put himself on the political "chopping block" for his country.
His money might be much better spent for this action. As to why he was ‘in it’ in the first place is an UN-answered question. Good luck in the future, sir. And some free advise - take a vacay from politics for a time.
“This is one of Tedâs strengths â heâs everybodyâs second choice.”
Very true, a strong #2 position is a good one. You are not the lightning rod for much, you can play the underdog sort of role, and when other people’s #1 drops out, you get them.
I agree with you. Santorum did carry 11 states in 2012.
Thanks for the ping.
Santorum was not there to support vets as you suggest......we here in PA. know this man all too well, he’ll park his boat next to any who can lift him to where ‘he thinks’ he’s earned the right to be including being a traitor to his own and has done so. He’s establishment make no mistake about that.....just ask any in Pa. what this man did here which ultimately got us Obama...he had his own hand in that fire.
Dirty Ted was sending out Tweets before Santorum’s body was even
cold.
Ted plays dirty.
Ted is ‘number two’
Yep.
Do tell...
