Ted Cruz Iowa Win Is A Loss For Evangelical Christians
The Inquisitor ^ | Aric Mitchell | feb 2 2016

Posted on 02/03/2016 10:58:10 AM PST by drewh

The next president could conceivably appoint four Justices to the U.S. Supreme Court.

In a CBS News report from January, it was pointed out that the next president of the United States could conceivably appoint as many as four Justices to the Supreme Court of the United States.

If evangelical Christians could elect someone to the presidency with that power, they could effectively scale back the two major hot-button issues they’ve lost on: legalization of abortion and legalization of same-sex marriage.

But to do so, they would need to nominate someone electable — someone sympathetic to these causes in the background, but who runs on issues that resonate more closely to what matters most among the general population.

Republicans — and Democrats, too, for that matter — can pick the candidate with which they most agree, but unless that person can sway enough of the independent vote, they will lose in November, period.

Looking at 2008 and 2012 and the rise of Barack Obama, the most anti-religious of modern (20th Century and beyond) presidents, it’s clear the majority is no longer of the evangelical Christian persuasion.

For the most part, independent voters’ views can be summed up as, “Stay out of my wallet, and stay out of my bedroom.”

In other words, they don’t think the government should spend more than it takes in, and they don’t think that government should be in the business of telling people how to live their lives provided that one person’s decisions do not encroach on the safety or inalienable rights of another.

Ted Cruz wears his beliefs on his sleeve, and appears to be earnest in those convictions, and that creeps out enough of the independent vote to ensure he would have zero chance against a Clinton or Sanders.

While it may be difficult to hold one’s nose and vote for a Trump, the alternative is that Hillary or Bernie wins the presidency and appoints a U.S. Supreme Court that is far more liberal than anything evangelical Christians have seen.

So yes, evangelicals, you gave Ted Cruz a victory in Iowa, and made him the true frontrunner for the GOP nomination. But as the old saying goes, “be careful what you wish for, you just might get it.”

You think your religious liberty is in danger now? Just wait until Hillary or Bernie wins the White House; then you can see where Monday’s Ted Cruz victory got you.

One big hole in this specious article.
Evangelical’s didn’t vote as a block.

I’m not too certain Hillary or Burney will be the Dem candidate in Nov. It could well be that pro-abort Catholic SlowJoe or that raving Methodist Fauxcahontas.

This author is concerned that the next president might be a true conservative. And so, she is opposed to Cruz.

Rumor is Carson is suing Cruz personally for monetary damages for voter violations in Iowa and that Trump has provided his lawyers. Big deal.!!! (Kidding) How does that feel Cruzers?

They never have.

Only the slow ones on FR think there is some united bloc of denominations that don’t even agree with each other, chomping at the bit to vote for whomever can quote the Bible the best.

As if those rainbow flags in front of many churches doesn’t clue them in to how these people are far from whom they think they are.

This is how I feel when going to FR the last month.

Further more, I am pretty darn confident that come convention time, the party elites, the ones who have to sign off on the nomination and submit it to the states will NOT allow Ted Cruz or Marco Rubio to be on the ballot because of their eligibility issues (never mind what some constitutional scholars say, or that Obama has issues.) They will strip Cruz and Rubio of their delegates and give them, based on some formula that heavily favors Jeb Bush, to whatever candidates remain who meet constitutional eligibility requirements based on Article II, Section I, Clause 5. And those delegates, along with the super-delegates, will give Bush the nomination. You do not think they would do something like this? Take another look at the cheating, manipulation, and lying that went on Alaska, Mississippi, and Virginia!

If we do not want Bush, we all need to get behind candidates are not Bush, who he and the elites cannot strip of the nomination for any reason!

That is because you are upset that everyone does bow to Ted Cruz.

I actually think Ted Cruz would lose 40 states. Not kidding.

Trump would win 30 states at least. Maybe even Reagan numbers although the country has changed.

Bush is 20/1 on the Euro sites now.
If you really believe that’s gonna happen, throw down some dough and make some big money.

The author makes two assumptions that defy logic:
1 - assumes that Cruz with a net positive favorability rating is “less electable” than a candidate that has the highest negative favorability rating among all candidates on either side;
2 - assumes that Trump would appoint justices to the court that are any less leftist/statist activist than those that Hillary or Bernie would appoint.

There is absolutely zero basis on which to accept either assumption as reasonable.

Sounds like the author doesn't understand Cruz's message of the Constitution and State's rights (the people's right) to deal with social issues......or how the government/courts need to stay out of it.

That message should resonate with EVERYONE, whether you are religious, libertarian, independent, etc.

The problem that the author doesn't address is that Trump is the guy with the highest unfavorability ratings in either party. He will hit a popularity ceiling before Cruz or Rubio would.

In short, it would appear from recent national polls that Cruz and Rubio are both more electable than Trump is.

My main objection to Rubio is that I don't think he is as reliable as Cruz is.

Like it or not, this is the truth. Remember the words ‘Walk softly & carry a BIG stick’?
You guys are your own worst enemy. And every bit as bad as the gays, feminists, & baby killers when it comes to making a spectacle of your beliefs.

LEARN something from the communist termites that have been destroying the country from within. Be quiet. Be diligent. Wise as serpents & harmless as doves
And LISTEN to the Lord when he tells us, explicitly, how to deal with these things. (Most of us *don’t* listen. But life would be easier if we did)

Your scenario would not surprise me. Both Jeb and Kasich are way too confident that Trump will not be the nominee. We have to look at who's between those two and the nomination....Trump, Cruz, Rubio, Carson.

They don't really care about November. Keeping control is more important than being president.

Only wrinkle might be that Cruz and Rubio have different situations. Rubio was born a US citizen, on US soil. Could Trump, Rubio, Carson combined stop them?

One thing, for sure. They're up to something.

Complete dreck. “So let’s put forward another vanilla moderate. That’s worked soooo well for us the past couple elections!”

In reality I think a lot of Americans may finally be ready for somebody who walks his talk and means what he says. That would be refreshing for a change.
