They never have.

Only the slow ones on FR think there is some united bloc of denominations that don’t even agree with each other, chomping at the bit to vote for whomever can quote the Bible the best.

As if those rainbow flags in front of many churches doesn’t clue them in to how these people are far from whom they think they are.

According to Heritage, only 25% of evangelicals vote in the general. They are very vocal and sway primaries but don't show when it really matters. Phyllis Schlafly has reported that no one on the ballot was good enough after all was said and done. To which, she replied, "Well, Jesus wasn't on the ballot this time. Who is your SECOND choice?"

William Buckley said he always voted for the most conservative choice on the ballot. That seems the best way for evangelicals to hold a place at the table.
