RUSH: I have to say one thing, one more thing, one more time. I do not like -- and I've got a Reuters story: "Marco Rubio Emerges Champion of Battered Republican Establishment." Another Reuters story, headline: "Republican Cruz Calls Iowa Win a Victory for Conservative Grassroots." I do not like, speaking for myself, I don't like this idea that Marco Rubio is all of a sudden being labeled as an establishment candidate.
I know that Rubio's got the baggage of that Gang of Eight bill and I know that in many people's minds he's got the baggage of wanting to grant the current number of illegals citizenship. I understand that. But Marco Rubio is no moderate Republican centrist. I could sit here like anybody else could and try to make explanations for you for why he did the Gang of Eight. I'm not even gonna try to put words into his mouth. I don't want to be seen as making excuses. I'm just telling you, I don't see Marco Rubio as anything other than a legitimate, full-throated conservative. Nobody's pure, and nobody is ever free of making mistakes.
I know Senator Rubio. It's like I was telling you last week: I know these people. I know that Senator Rubio in the Senate... In many ways, he agrees with Cruz about things. He's worn out with the Senate. The Senate... I heard this from Allen West when he left the House. I've heard, "The incumbents, that's all they care about is being reelected. You go there to make a difference and you run into brick wall after brick wall after brick wall." I don't think... You know, Rubio, I don't think he wants to stay there 30 years to break through the wall to get a committee chairmanship or whatever.
I just don't like this idea that all of a sudden we're gonna make Rubio the establishment bad guy, as though Rubio is no different than the McCains and the Bob Doles and the Romneys and the others that have come along and been nominated by the establishment. He just isn't. He has not been talked out of his conservatism. He does not abandon it. He had the best end-of-the-evening speech of anybody last night. He had the best end-of-the-evening speech of anybody. And even the media was dazzled by the fact that he did it without a teleprompter.
They continue to be dazzled by that. (chuckling) Of course, Barack Hussein O can't do anything without a teleprompter. I just don't want to... We had three genuine Reaganites triumph last night, and Rubio did better than a lot of people thought he was gonna do -- and to me, that is very important. It is crucially important for conservatism, for Reaganism, for the future of the Republican Party. I'm just not comfortable here sitting and watching somebody end up maybe being destroyed because of a characterization of being "establishment."
Yeah, the establishment may embrace him because they hate Cruz and they're not gonna embrace Trump, and their real preferences can't get any traction. (That would be Jeb and Kasich and Christie.) So they've gotta go with somebody. But I'm never gonna be one that sees Marco Rubio as the establishment, as we talk about it every day here on this program.
END TRANSCRIPT
I think Rubio got the none of the above vote due to Cruz and Trump’s negative attacks on each other.
I entered this election cycle with no particular bias on Rubio one way or the other. I was busy picking up the pieces of tragic personal stuff back during the gang of 8 thing, so...I was open to be persuade without ill feelings.
Rubio totally lost any chance at me ever supporting him. I strongly dislike him. He is a fast-talking, dishonest snake. I do not trust him at all. Whatever he says is pure opportunism in my view. No thank you.
I love Rush but he can’t see the amnesty in Rubio’s eyes. Its there folks. Do you want a guy who so easily got played by Chuck Schumer as the CIC? I don’t.
I was listening today when Rush explained his position. He thinks he knows Rubio and the amnesty bit does not reflect the breadth of Rubio as a politician.
Didn’t buy it when I heard it, still don’t buy it.
Faux Snooze and Limbaugh are pushing Rubio. The marching orders have been issued by the down under dick head that runs Faux Snooze.
GG2 he didn’t get played. He did exactly what he intended to do. Which was to get the spotlight and name recognition on that bill. The ONLY thing that he didn’t plan on was Cruz and Session’s sway in the House to kill it and the political fallout he is suffering from it.
Dondi is a Show Pony!
Rubio lied all over the place about Cruz. He is an opportunist and I do not and will never trust him.
To this Cruz supporter's ears, Rush was far more pro-Trump than pro-Cruz. Rush seems to be moving away from being a strong conservative voice to being what I would call a conservative tourist. He is like a tour guide trying to explain everyone. I think sometimes he is right and sometimes he is wrong. Here on Rubio, he is wrong. Rush has been and still is valuable to conservatism overall. He does seem to have grown weaker, but so has everyone.
Rubio thought he would jump on the immigration issue and ride it into the oval office.
I think it is better when they are not friends. That way principles can be the focus rather than personalities.
Rubio has openly supported amnesty and continuing H1B. I will not vote for him anymore than I would vote for Jeb... He’s establishment, he’ll sell America down the toilet for his donors just like the rest and shown he will do it.
Rubio is a non starter as far as I’m concerned.. Trying to argue he is more conservative than Bush? Who Cares.
Looks like the fix is in to push Rubio.
Just wait until Rubio pulls out his pack of lies tactics on your candidate. You will like him even less.
That is exactly how I read it in real time.
The hilarious part.....he let Chuck Schumer and John Mc Cain whisper sweet nothings in his ear while doing it
I wonder what Dondi thinks about Schumer now with that ad out quoting Schumer on Marco’s actions on the bill ie. “His hand prints are all over that bill. He worked on it for weeks”
Good points Friend.
I don’t care who the truth helps or hurts. If it hurts you, the problem is you.
I turn his show off as soon as he takes a call from 8 year old Jimmy or 8 year old Jessica and he is so surprised that they start talking about how great his books are.
It is the most phony-baloney, plastic banana advertising trick I’ve heard in a long time.
He should just pay for advertising and stop trying to hide ads in what appears to be a random caller.
The “purity” issue is concerning.
Levin was somewhat defending himself against being a “conservative purist” a charge that was coming from the establishment as an attack.
Levin’s point was that upholding the basic principles of conservatism is not being a purist, especially when so many Republicans (who pretend to be conservatives) give away every principle.
That Rush is talking about no one being a “pure” conservative, combined with his sudden claims that Rubio is not a RINO and combined with his sudden defense of Megyyyyn Kelly adds up to the very strong possibility that he received a phone call from someone who got him on board.
Either that or he’s lining Meggyyyyyn up to be his next wife.
Rubio was wrong on Amnesty but right on many other issues more or just as important to me. That's why I'm for Cruz.
Total B/S you know damn well it was a snide remark which helps the infighting. You can’t answer the question because you know the answer.
People like you only add to helping the establishment and the rat party.
Proud of yourself are you?
Why’d you stop listening to Levin?
