RUSH: I have to say one thing, one more thing, one more time. I do not like -- and I've got a Reuters story: "Marco Rubio Emerges Champion of Battered Republican Establishment." Another Reuters story, headline: "Republican Cruz Calls Iowa Win a Victory for Conservative Grassroots." I do not like, speaking for myself, I don't like this idea that Marco Rubio is all of a sudden being labeled as an establishment candidate.
I know that Rubio's got the baggage of that Gang of Eight bill and I know that in many people's minds he's got the baggage of wanting to grant the current number of illegals citizenship. I understand that. But Marco Rubio is no moderate Republican centrist. I could sit here like anybody else could and try to make explanations for you for why he did the Gang of Eight. I'm not even gonna try to put words into his mouth. I don't want to be seen as making excuses. I'm just telling you, I don't see Marco Rubio as anything other than a legitimate, full-throated conservative. Nobody's pure, and nobody is ever free of making mistakes.
I know Senator Rubio. It's like I was telling you last week: I know these people. I know that Senator Rubio in the Senate... In many ways, he agrees with Cruz about things. He's worn out with the Senate. The Senate... I heard this from Allen West when he left the House. I've heard, "The incumbents, that's all they care about is being reelected. You go there to make a difference and you run into brick wall after brick wall after brick wall." I don't think... You know, Rubio, I don't think he wants to stay there 30 years to break through the wall to get a committee chairmanship or whatever.
I just don't like this idea that all of a sudden we're gonna make Rubio the establishment bad guy, as though Rubio is no different than the McCains and the Bob Doles and the Romneys and the others that have come along and been nominated by the establishment. He just isn't. He has not been talked out of his conservatism. He does not abandon it. He had the best end-of-the-evening speech of anybody last night. He had the best end-of-the-evening speech of anybody. And even the media was dazzled by the fact that he did it without a teleprompter.
They continue to be dazzled by that. (chuckling) Of course, Barack Hussein O can't do anything without a teleprompter. I just don't want to... We had three genuine Reaganites triumph last night, and Rubio did better than a lot of people thought he was gonna do -- and to me, that is very important. It is crucially important for conservatism, for Reaganism, for the future of the Republican Party. I'm just not comfortable here sitting and watching somebody end up maybe being destroyed because of a characterization of being "establishment."
Yeah, the establishment may embrace him because they hate Cruz and they're not gonna embrace Trump, and their real preferences can't get any traction. (That would be Jeb and Kasich and Christie.) So they've gotta go with somebody. But I'm never gonna be one that sees Marco Rubio as the establishment, as we talk about it every day here on this program.

No, you give ME a break. Since when does my non-vote equates to being a vote for a leftist?
His ACU rating is 98
I don't care if his ACU, Conservative Review, or whatever criteria used to measure a conservative "rating" is past the 100% mark to the "TILT" level. He supports AMNESTY which is an absolute deal-breaker for me and many other conservatives.
Don't be so purely conservative that you are a fool.
Yeah! I'm a pure conservative because I don't want America flooded with 3rd world Latinos and killer Muslims.
I like all three but I'm a Cruzer, Trump is not conservative and Rubio is.
When someone pays a singer 1,000,000 to sign one song, that might be a hint that person is an elitist, far removed from the cares of everyday John and Jane Sixpack. Illegal immigration means Nothing to Rush, he could care less.
He was for amnesty and no wall before Trump.
Everybody hears what they want to hear.
In the past week, Rush has been vilified by both Trump supporters AND Cruz supporters, depending on what they felt was his support for one or the other candidate on that particular day.
You simply can't put Cruz supporters on some kind of pedestal over this. I say this as a Cruz supporter.
Rubio is a corrupt, incompetent and destructive RINO. Wake up Rush and wake up America.
Trump is not a conservative, my guess is Rush, Levin, etc, have known that all along but gave him a pass because he is so good at attacking the media and defying political correctness.
And that is all terrific about Trump, but he’s no conservative.
I noticed the change among the radio talkers when Trump tried to pull that birther slime on Cruz. Now that Cruz has shown he can beat Trump (note now Trump has lost and endlessly babbling about polls has less impact) and Rubio being pretty conservative on most issues, I think the Trump love is over.
Rubio has virtually the same position as Obama on the following issues.
1) Immigration... Both believe in a pathway to citizenship for illegals and do not care about open borders.
2). Both are for rigged trade deals and the H1B program that encourages companies to fire American workers and replace them with cheaper H1b workers for less taxes and less regulation like Obamacare.
3). Both are for the NSA collecting every Americans data and the airport security for Americas only. While at the very same time leaving. The borders wide open.
Rubio is 100% Establishment
That's exactly where I am. I don't like what Rubio did with the Gang of Eight, but every one of these candidates is flawed. Rubio has shown a better ability than Cruz to actually pass conservative legislation, like the knee-capping of Obamacare insurance bailouts.
I personally think Cruz is ideally suited to the Supreme Court.
Good call on you though.
Agree 1000%
A sentiment that is most likely shared by a majority of FReepers. Now, if it's Yeb......I won't make any promises.
Triple E, you are right on. If we don’t secure our borders, we are done. Plain and simple.
He sold out in 1992...Hate to tell ya.
There is ONE issue, Illegals, a candidate is either a nationalist., or a Royalist. Rush and Rubio are Royalist.
Cruz is ineligible by any formulation of the definition the founding fathers would have used for "Natural Born citizen." Natural born status was always viewed as being transmitted paternally, not through the mother. All that said, the proposition that Rubio is a true conservative and Trump isn't is horribly stupid.
In past elections, the Republican party was what/who we voted for. Rush has not had to speak for a divided Republican base before this. He spoke for the Republicans.. and has for years, warned, threatened, advised the GOP they were not understanding the anger out here. All of it fell on ears that would not hear. Now today, Rush is going that route? Rubio??? Rush is not simple minded and he’s not dumb.
Here we have 2 men who the angered are following. Rubio has been in the GOP too long to be considered not one of them. Rush has not looked hard at his voting record. He’s voted right along with the rest of them. How can Rush say he’s not one of them? Rush is not a Fox lover... he’s not out of the loop...so where is his head on this one... I know he can change subjects on any given day.. I’m not done with Rush. He’ll show the reasons eventually. But Fox must be very pleased.
I don’t have any news station to watch.. I’ll have to get used to this.. I can’t stand to hear them crow and I can’t stand to think Rubio will go anywhere.. we’ll never live it down.. we’ll never be right again according to the media.
“He must be on crack if he thinks Trump is a Reaganite.”
The three Reaganites he named were Cruz, Rubio, and Dr. Carson.
