Grow Up! How can anyone be for this spoiled brat?
The American Spectator ^ | January 30, 2016 | Thomas Sowell

Posted on 01/30/2016 12:54:47 AM PST by Cincinatus' Wife

Of all the many things said about Donald Trump, what was said by Roger Ailes, head of the Fox News Channel, said it all in just two words: "Grow up!"

It is amazing how many people have been oblivious to this middle-aged man's spoiled brat behavior, his childish boastfulness about things he says he is going to do, and his petulant response to every criticism with ad hominem replies.

He has boasted that his followers would stick by him even if he committed murder. But is that something to boast about? Is it not an insult to his followers, if it is true? Moreover, his cockiness is misplaced, because he still does not have a majority among Republican voters, while you need a majority of all the voters to win any state in the general election.

Trump has a showman's talent for telling people what they want to hear. But you can listen in vain for a coherent argument from him, based on facts and logic, much less an understanding of the inherent limitations of the office of president.

More than two centuries ago, Edmund Burke said: "Constitute government how you please, infinitely the greater part of it must depend upon the exercise of the powers which are left at large to the prudence and uprightness of ministers of state."

In other words, the personal character of the people to whom you entrust the powers of government matters even more than what kinds of government institutions there are. There have been some good kings and some bad presidents, as well as vice versa.

Well, I couldn’t get it last time when people claimed to be so conservative and principled that they couldn’t vote for Romney and gave us four more years of Obama. How did that work out for everybody? I have never thought that being conservative meant you couldn’t also have some common sense.

Chief Inspector Dreyfuss. IIRC.

Played by Herbert Lom, who died last year. RIP.

The problem is that Trump didn't choose to point out McCain's record as a politician, which regardless of his military service and having been a POW, is absolutely fair game. Instead Trump did what Trump does and went for the cheap shot, implying that because McCain was a POW, he's somehow a failed individual, a "Loser" as in Trump's own words and as he is prone to call any and all people he disagrees with.

"McStain deserves contempt and ridicule." Yes - absolutely on his political record but not on having been a POW.

Trump's statement "I like people who weren't captured," points to someone with a narcissistic personality who has no idea what it is like to serve in a combat zone and being a POW especially since Trump avoided military service during Vietnam.

Questions linger about Trump's draft deferments during Vietnam War

Roger Ailes Trump "grow up" ...this advice is from the same child who wrote and published the infamous, disrespectful and juvenile "press release" which we directly responsible for Mr. Trump bailing on the Fau hit piece "debate"!

This is the same Roger Ailes, who not only had Bill O'Reilly BEGGING, PLEADING, SHAMING and trying to BELITTLE Mr. Trump into abandoning his principled position by attending the Fau "debate" on his show after giving Mr. Trump HIS WORD that he would not bring up or ask this question;

He is also the same Roger Ailes who after attempting to call Trump multiple times to BEG him to reconsider attending, was personally forced (shortly before the Fau "debte) to offer Mr. Trump a full apology for his boorish, juvinile behavior, which Mr. Trump graciously accepted. However, Mr. Trump refused to back down and attend the Fau "debate" because he had given his word and had made a commitment to hold a fund raising event for American Service Veterans. Unlike Bill O'Reilly, he KEPT both his WORD and his COMMITMENT! And he WON the "debate" without even being there, because Americans respect a principled leader who takes a stand and who keeps his word.

So, Mr. Roger Ailes and Fau "News", these events have demonstrated that it is you that need to "grow up".

I’ve never watched an episode of Apprentice. I did see some commercials once and a while and an occasional interview on the entertainment part of a news show.

I would have to see more info on all his donor records. I don’t know that I can recall any person running for POTUS that someone hasn’t pointed at something they donated to. Could just mean he should ‘fire’ the person handling that and not doing their research.

Read my tagline.

He's also the guy who turned normal, good-looking women into tarts and sluts and one of them into a fire-breathing gorgon who is the very epitome of emasculating feminazism.

I see Trump at these online streamed rallies, and he is as nice as Santa Claus.

He bashes people who bash him first.

His schtick is to be a loudmouth New Yorker, but he is not as bad as Sowell is painting him.

Handled the Fox debate thing properly... he is shifting power away from the media which Sowell does not like him doing.

Sowell is a pretty classic establishment GOP person. What is happening now is probably very unsettling for him.

Things are changing, and lots of people on the GOP side are being exposed for the moles and rats they are. Journalists as well as politicians.

Trump is changing the whole balance of power between the people and the media, and that is a very good thing.

Trump is incoherent, do you have any idea how much like the Obama lemming herd this all is?

What drives me crazy (ok, crazIER) is that a whole lot of the people who raged at people for not fully supporting Romney; who belittled 'TruCons' for being 'purists'.... are now the ones who are saying that they won't vote for Trump if he is the nominee, and ranting that Trump is not a pure Conservative.

I thought they wanted us to support for the centrist billionaire businessman who can get Democrat crossover voters and independents, but when 'we have finally learned our lesson..... they change the 'rules'...

I'm sooo Confused!

Narcissism is the pursuit of gratification from vanity or egotistic admiration of one’s own attributes.

There isn’t a single person that would ever run for President that isn’t one - from Martin O’Malley and Lindsey Graham to Sanders and Trump. You love this word but in this discussion it’s completely meaningless.

It is not about Trump as much as it is about the religious nature of his followers. Trumps history is all over the board, he shows little indication that his word holds water. In short a consummate politician. But his followers list in detail all the things he will do, something he has not done!

Just like Obama and his pre-emptive Nobel prize.

It is amazing, a great spiritual blindness. And very scary. The vicious spirit of the Trumpeters belie the root.

Yup.
we all still think the government doesn’t have the power to have little girls forced to have venereal disease inoculations.

Even if the drug hadn’t turned out to be potentially deadly, it still would have been the wrong thing to do.

Guess we will always disagree with you and La Raza Rick.

Sowell's editorial would have more credibility if he could cite some better alternative to Trump. Trump is flawed, but by far the least of the evils.

the contest is measured by the polls

trump gained, he won the issue. Fox lost, or at least did not prevail

however, trump would be wise to remember not to go to war with a man that buys ink by the barrel
