Of all the many things said about Donald Trump, what was said by Roger Ailes, head of the Fox News Channel, said it all in just two words: "Grow up!"
It is amazing how many people have been oblivious to this middle-aged man's spoiled brat behavior, his childish boastfulness about things he says he is going to do, and his petulant response to every criticism with ad hominem replies.
He has boasted that his followers would stick by him even if he committed murder. But is that something to boast about? Is it not an insult to his followers, if it is true? Moreover, his cockiness is misplaced, because he still does not have a majority among Republican voters, while you need a majority of all the voters to win any state in the general election.
Trump has a showman's talent for telling people what they want to hear. But you can listen in vain for a coherent argument from him, based on facts and logic, much less an understanding of the inherent limitations of the office of president.
More than two centuries ago, Edmund Burke said: "Constitute government how you please, infinitely the greater part of it must depend upon the exercise of the powers which are left at large to the prudence and uprightness of ministers of state."
In other words, the personal character of the people to whom you entrust the powers of government matters even more than what kinds of government institutions there are. There have been some good kings and some bad presidents, as well as vice versa.

I know. It’s called hyperbole. I like hyperbole and use it often. Except when I do it, I prefer to call it embellishment.
That is a fair complaint of Trump. Quite valid.
I normally don’t like hearing war heroes ridiculed.
But a side of me is really glad he said that.
Why?
McStain might be a war hero, but he’s an open-borders creep, he turned campaign finance into a legal minefield for well-intended first-time candidates, he’s a phony who pretends to be for ‘safe borders’ every time there’s a primary challenge.
McStain deserves contempt and ridicule.

Yeah, Me too. I ‘snark’ a lot, and that often involves hyperbole, or exaggeration of my target’s characteristics.
Trouble is... People are allowing their hatred for Trump to destroy any capability to understand nuance or get that people are just being being snarky to one person or group of persons who has aroused their ire, and is not meant to be a universal statement about an entire institution.
You can carve out that comfy zone if you must, but what Trump said offended a lot of people - even those of us who think McCain is a big problem.
It was typical of Trump’s mouth working before he thinks - or just his boorish manner - when he never considered (or cared) how that sounded to other members of the military.
His history of avoiding service and his past legal action against vets trying to make a living supports his, at best, indifference or at its worst, his contempt.

I know what he said. Personally I think every one that has or does serve in the military is a hero even if they sit behind a desk. I think it was a fortunate thing for the other residents of the Hanoi Hilton who McCain’s family was because if not for that, they would have all been obscure. Which is what Trump was saying if you understand how Northerner’s talk. Kind of like Patton. Patton didn’t go on that sick ward and slap all of the patients. Just one.
Is his behavior any different than that of his TV show Apprentice..I’ve seen a few episodes, and his campaign resembles it quite a bit.
How can true conservative ignore his BIG DEM DONOR status? Even while campaigning for the GOP Presidential Ticket he’s given $25K to the VA Dem Gun Grabber.

Thomas Sowell has been a consistant conservative. He used to be admired here. But, like anyone who tells the truth about the Trumpster, he’s suddenly blacklisted.

Grania, seriously, Sowell is saying what we have been saying. How many friends do you have that live to destroy others lives like he does, who lies like he does, that if analyzed probably 90% of what he says is I am the greatest and so and so sucks? Is this the first candidate in your life you are supporting that his record and changing his believes every other day does not matter to you? Rubio lost us with one flip flop and Donnie is allowed hundreds?

...and I would ask, what could Mr. Trump do upon becoming President that would change your mind? I hardly think any of what he could do would somehow be worse than President Obama.
