The personalized letters target individual Iowa voters and identifies them as having failed to vote in prior elections. They are admonished and then encouraged to vote this year. In addition the letters identify the neighbors of the voter, and provides their voting history.
The text reads:
"You are receiving this election notice because of low expected voter turnout in your area. Your individual voting history as well as your neighbors' are public record. Their scores are published below, and many of them will see your score as well. CAUCUS ON MONDAY TO IMPROVE YOUR SCORE and please encourage your neighbors to caucus as well. A follow-up notice may be issued following Monday's caucuses".
In an effort to shame the recipient, the notice also informs the targeted voter their neighbors have also been notified of the recipients poor voting record.

When there are more each than own, you will also get the chance to vote for Trump. Go Patriots! I would vote for Cruz if I have to in the general!
Glad you’ll join us then!
Of course, I am a patriot. I’m sure you would do the same and vote for Trump in the general. Or would you?
I am a Cruz supporter...but I can say without any excuse or preamble that this was a big mistake by Cruz.
People will see and feel “big brother,” all over it...they very thing Cruz is campaigning against.
In addition, it will offend, and then anger them, and they will most likely (if they vote at all), go out and vote against whomever sent such a correspondence.
Cruz has some knuckleheads working for him...or agents working against him.
Does not matter...he himself should have seen how crazy this was and either stopped it...or if he did not find out until later...he should have apologized and fired the people who were responsible.
This will hurt him, particularly in Iowa, but also wherever people hear of it...and you can bet the competition will trumpet it far and wide.
It also makes me wonder what is the next stupid thing team Cruz will do? You know it’s coming. It’s hard to top what they have done so far. One word, Beck!
I’ll vote for the person who promises to defend the US Consistituon the most. Whomever has the longest record of doing such. I stand by my conservative principles, in the general and in the primary.
If you have a problem with that, well tough luck. I’ll be damned if I vote for a weasel liberal, irregardless of what party they are running under.
Uh...that’s not what he said at all.
He said he would vote for whomever had the best conservative record, with the longest history of supporting the Constitution in the Primaries and in the General.
I intend to do the same.
In the primary, when I have several choices, that would be Cruz if he is still in when it gets to Idaho. That’s what I took his meaning as.
If Trump is up against Sanders or Clinton in the general...then apply the same rule. For me, that most definitely means Trump over those other two socialist, progressive liberals.
Nothing piss poor about that...it’s just the way we feel.
Look, we are allies in this. I will support Trump in a heartbeat and twice on Sundays if and when he becomes the nominee. Until then, I feel Cruz has the stronger record on the constitution and working against the establishment in the Senate...so I will vote for him in the primaries.
In the end, we all want to see a turn around from Obama’s disastrous eight years. I am certain either Trump or Cruz will provide it.
This move by the Cruz campaign though, with this ridiculous mailer, was horrifically foolish and is apt to cost him any chance he had in Iwoa to win.
I was specifically asking him if he would vote for Trump in the general. I just wanted a yes or no, as I gave about Cruz, not a run around. He still will not say he would vote for Trump in the general, unlike you.
Okay...fair enough. It’s for him to answer. I have made my intentions clear.
Really? How sweet of you.
Cruz’ mother is a US citzen, so is he.
That’s a fact jack, like it or not I don’t care.
My questions are the following, since I am afraid the DEMS will sue if Cruz happens to be the Republican Nominee.
Why doesn’t Cruz just get a Court Judgment and put the issue to rest?
If his having Canadian Citizenship did or does not matter, why did he give up the Canadian Citizenship 15 months ago?
Like I have said many times, Trump is my favorite candidate but I WILL VOTE for WHOMEVER the Republican Nominee happens to be. I want Cruz to get the NBC issue put to rest!!
There are countless lawyers and voters who disagree with you. Pretend it’s Trump for a moment. Are you OK with him having a Canadian bc? What about if Trump had renounced Canadian citizenship in 2014? Regardless, facts remain, this issue is unsettled. Also I agree it doesn’t matter much since Cruz will never win the primary anyway.
I’m still worshipping Cruz the candidate.... but his campaign folk and some of their decisions (for which Cruz is ultimately responsible, of course) sure seem to possibly be dropping the ball at the last moment.
You’re the one admitting Trump is not a conservative...
“Support or face the firing squad!”
“Off with his head!”
You’re Delusional.
Seriously this would only strengthen my resolve to not Vote Cruz. Very smarmy...off putting. You can’t shame people into participating.
Done with this Canuck blowhard. No Cabinet, no SCOTUS, no nothing. Own it, BusTed.
I heard a news analysis last night that a high voter turnout would favor Trump in Iowa, but a low turnout would favor Cruz. Perhaps the calculation is that this would so turn off voters that they would stay home on Monday. Cruz fanatics would go anyway.
