Veterans' Groups Line up to Reject Money from Trump (if He is Even Raising Any)
Red State ^ | January 27, 2016 | Leon H. Wolf

Posted on 01/27/2016 11:56:38 PM PST by Cincinatus' Wife

Trump's standard line when he is about to storm out of a media event because he doesn't like how it covers him is that he is going to go host an event to raise money for veterans. Thus it was no surprise when he announced that he would be skipping the FoxNews event to hold a separate event to raise money for.... well, "veterans," generally. Of course, Trump did not name a specific charity so that his feet might be held to the fire on this, just "veterans," generally.

Well, there are two small problems. The main veterans group that Trump has used for publicity stunts in the past, the Wounded Warrior Project, was the subject of a scathing CBS report and recently lost their tax exempt status. Besides, if Trump is planning on using them, he hasn't told anyone from the group. Per CNN, the Wounded Warrior Project has not even been contacted by Trump about possibly doing an event tomorrow.

If he is doing it for some other group, they are now lining up to say that they don't want any money Trump might make off of promoting himself, and will reject it if offered.

>>>Iraq and Afghanistan Veterans of America founder Paul Rieckhoff tweeted Wednesday that he would decline any contributions that came from the event, which Trump has proposed in place of his attending Fox News' debate this week.

"If offered, @IAVA will decline donations from Trump's event. We need strong policies from candidates, not to be used for political stunts," he said.

* * *

Two other veterans' groups also distanced themselves from Trump's announcement.

The Wounded Warrior Project said it was not aware of the candidate conducting any fundraising efforts on its behalf.

Meanwhile, VoteVets.org, which calls itself the nation's largest progressive veterans group, issued a statement titled: "Don't hide from Megyn Kelly behind us."<<<<

Trump has tried to tie fundraising for veterans with debates in the past. He said he had considered skipping CNN debates in September and December unless the network donated to veterans' groups.

Vote Vets is of course a lefty group, but the other two announcements are telling. Money is money, and if groups are pre-emptively declining it, that's a pretty good indication of just how tired of Donald Trump's crap the vast majority of the country is getting.

Of course, all of this assumes that Trump had any plans of giving the money to Veterans in the first place, as opposed to just saying that he was going to so that his temper tantrum would look more noble.

Thanks to our commenter TNGal for finding this story.

Of course you would see it as that....Trump has trained you well. ....But running away IS the standard for bullies when someone won’t bend to their tactics... Trumped tried for four days to get Fox to bend ...with his target as Kelli...they didn’t and neither did Kelli.... so Trumps temper tantrum played out to be a no-show at a debate four days before the first-in-the-nation caucuses.......Presidential Material??? .....NO....A kid in a sandbox who got sand thrown in his face, the same he’s been throwing for months, and whined all the home to his “safe” spot.

You still harpin’ on this from the wrong side?

Psst, it’s Kelly, not Kelli - just so you don’t look quite as silly as you already do.

When are you going to start stumping for the muzzies?? That lil secret weapon was sure to shed some much needed light, right? How does one argue with a militant muzzie? Maybe you should give tips to the rest of the candidates, they will appreciate your help.

Did you honestly expect with Trump throwing out his bombastic insults and threats, both publicly and behind the scenes, that people would just lay down and not retaliate?.....Really???

News organizations have always had targets during the election cycles, this is not new.... Trump just thinks he's the only one that can play the game......he's finding out otherwise. Running away from a debate because he doesn't want to take the heat, no matter what form it comes in, is just plain cowardly in the face of fears he cannot handle.

I don't agree with the tactics political parties play, but Trump does set himself up for these time and again just by his lack of basic manners and understanding that this is not a Wrestling Ring but a Primary Election......so since he's continued with that it's natural to expect some to challenge him in ways he's not going to like and that will also not be according to the "standards" we might otherwise expect.

I can't resist bumping this in total:

That's right....but I think Trump surpasses Obama quite a bit because he hasn't learned 'the skill set' Narcissists need to control the impulses we see playing out by Trump. Obama hides his well enough in public.....but Trump can't. Trump's a wonderful study of a Narcissist without a strong skill set and in full view of the audience, giving the Psychological Community front row seats which they're fabulously enjoying the study of. ......You generally don't have such an opportunity because most don't do well in therapy sessions because they need to control that environment as well....let alone see they have issues. Many successful business men are Narcissist or have some of their traits....but they have taken advice from their mentors or friends who are either stronger then they are or more stable because they use a skill set.

It's all about protecting their fragile ego and shoring it up when their inner emotions get to rocking and rolling.....and that happens when they are afraid of loosing or even the smell of the possibility. Which we're watching play out currently with Trumps actions and his responses regarding the debate.

Interesting is Cruz is using the word..."Afraid" when speaking about Trump.... he's quite aware of who he is dealing with and why he won't clobber Trump....rather he invites him one on one.....an escape....but Cruz is not one he wants to go up against and as that possibility draws closer Trump gets more afraid.....

We’re watching the childish actions of a SR.Citizen who can’t speak a sentence without inserting how grand and wonderful he is and/ or outright lying in order to protect his fragile ego......He’s been calling people fifth grade names and hammering with multiple insults any who oppose him throughout most of his campaign and further can’t even present a clear outline of his first 100 days in office,.....who now has run away from the first caucus debate in this election because he doesn’t like the moderator.......with people still saying..... There’s the guy I want as president of the most powerful country in the world....

Our President should be able and willing to stand up and defend himself under ‘any circumstances’....not run away while shouting to his followers “Look over here”!

It’s ok caww, I’m so very sorry your are struggling with all this. I can’t begin to imagine how difficult it must be to not get people to hear you share how Cruz is the one we need.

You are entitled to view events as you wish, I do not share your paranoia or fears. I see strength and determination. I hear a man who desires to stop the downfall, not spend countless hours yammering over the same ground and in the end, not moving the needle one bit.

Sometimes in life, common sense provides better guidance than all the speeches, books, papers, et al It’s the difference between those who read about swimming, yet never jump in the water.

Did you also note that Trump couldn’t just run away from the debate...he HAD to offer an alternative to his followers, or what he calls “My People”......he needs them ‘more’ than they do him to shore up his ego plus he’s not going to give them a window to defect to another candidate. He is as much obsessed with his followers as they are him. It’s a match Narcissists dream of.....Trumps very good at “Walling” them in so they likely will “follow” him to the coral he’s staged “for them”, we saw this immediately when they said they wouldn’t be watching the debate..... “Loyalty” to Trump is an understatement....it well surpasses that.

I see you do see a “hero” in Trump as your post attests by your choice of words used......it falls in line with Trumps desires for the position of power he seeks with himself as the fix it man.

What he is beginning to see, and running from, is he’s gotten in over his head as his fleeing this caucus debate evidences. He’s getting tired of running for President and I will not be at all surprised if at some point he quits....or goes thrid party if he still wants to play his own game.
He wants to make his own rules but he is discovering the nation really doesn’t want to dance around his fragile ego and tantrums.....unless of course they’re more interested in seeing the next episode of Trumps reality TV Series.....most won’t as he continues to show his childish antics and inability to understand why the process to elect a President is what it is......on the other hand the nations peoples have for some time been ripe for deception so his followers will follow regardless and those who don’t know any better along with them.....we saw that with Obama.

Yes, you and I will assuredly disagree regarding candidates.... because I don’t look at a candidate to tell me what I want to hear......I look for one who has a solid history to support what he claims and the foundations beneath him that will be his strength in the Office of President of this Great Nation....which by the way it still is.

Trumps 1985 donation of a Million Dollars was not to the vets themselves but a joint venture ‘to build a Memorial’ to the Vietnam Vets whose plans were drawn in 1983....and long past time recognizing these brave men.

But it is interesting you had to go back to 1985 ....isn’t there something more current...say within the past five years or so which he’s actually done FOR the Vets themselves?....without it being a landmark that bears his name????

Please do not assume to know what I see in any candidate, and attach words that I do not use ie. ‘hero’. That’s just silly. It’s as vapid as others posters making claims that anyone who is leaning towards Trump is ‘worshiping’ him and I find that assertion to be equally crude.

If you are looking for consistent, I wonder how you can stand by Ted. The entire amnesty nightmare is beyond transparent of how he has changed his position, more than once. I’m not falling for the poison pill story on that, nor do I fall for the ‘I’m against it so I’ll vote for it’ regarding the TPA.

When it takes hours to dissect what someone states and further, requires uncovering layers of information to support that statement, you’ve already lost a great number of voters. People do NOT spend time on this as you or I do, as well as others who comment here. They either do not have the time or just do not have the patience to wade through all the political talk, which is exactly how it comes across.

I have no idea how this all plays out in the end. Often times I find myself amazed that I’m alive to witness all this and other times, I’m deeply saddened that I’m here to witness all this. Life is really NOT that complicated, people just choose to make it that way.

FR etiquette is that whenever you mention someone in a post, you should also send it to that person. Why don’t you ping this to CW yourself?

CW had the post right before mine so that seemed superfluous. Who made you forum cop?

Perhaps the attack bots MIGHT want to looking to the group before pimping them

This is a Leftist propaganda front group with a “Vets” label slapped on it. They spent less then .001 of their $6 million fund raising on Vets, the rests goes for “salary and expenses”

I will take the words of New York Veterans over the spew of campaign bots.

One of the reasons I am looking forward to Trump winning Iowa and pretty much locking up the nomination is that it will make your posting screeds even less relevant than they are now.
