Jeb Bush: No, I don't think Trump is Christian
Politico ^ | 1/27/16 | Nick Gass

On the same day that Donald Trump earned the endorsement of evangelical leader Jerry Falwell Jr., Jeb Bush expressed doubt over whether Donald Trump is a Christian, remarking that the Manhattan businessman merely views faith as another political tool.

Asked by reporters in Nevada on Tuesday whether he believed Trump to be a Christian, Bush said he does not.

"No, I don't know what he is," the former governor of Florida said, according to video posted by ABC News. "I just don't think he has the relationship that he says he has, if you can't explain it in any way that shows that he's serious about it. Just accepting the fact that we make mistakes and you seek forgiveness. That's one of the tenets of the Christian faith, that I think all -everybody can agree on. We're all sinners."

That is part of the Christian Faith to be sure, but it isn't constant in most Christians, as you cannot really sin and repent at the same time.

So you are saying Trump is still sinning? He's had two divorces and slept with more, yet there is NO repentance.

'Statements' still do not provide you with some divine insight into the state of his soul. Ponder that.

If Jeb is so particular, why is his family in bed with the Saudis? And why did the family on whose coattails he rides not take issue on those same grounds with Obama? Why is his dad still palling around with Bill Clinton — Bill’s such a Christian? Give us a frikkin break.

Belonging to a denomination does not make one a Christian. A person becomes a Christian when he makes a personal decision to make Christ Lord of his life. A Christian can tell you when he was saved, and the circumstances surrounding it.

You are misunderstanding my post. You are also using your own definition of Christian, and I had no intention of starting a theology back-and-forth on an open thread.

John Ellis Bush is a Roman Catholic. Our Faith has it’s own guidelines to define Christianity, and who is a Christian. Those who believe as old line Presbyterians belive are regarded as Christian, with valid Baptism and Matrimony (if with another Christian).

John Ellis Bush stated that Trump is not a Christian. I am countering that Trump may well be a Christian, based on what he says his belief system is Presbyterian.

Yes; I totally understand. I was just clarifying that different people come from different places with that particular word.

Trump definitely could be a Christian. Bottom line: Only God knows what’s in a person’s heart. Faith is very personal.

A side note: As a Christian, I’m disturbed that this debate on FR has become so focused on religion. Founding Fathers excluded a religious test for eligibility. I’d think we could honor that.

It’s interesting how Jeb questions Trump’s religious beliefs but harbors no such doubts about Obama’s. A few months ago, Jeb stated unequivocally that he believed that Obama was “a Christian and an American.”

Hey, Jeb...would a Christian sit by and let a woman be starved to death?

Frank, I sure wish you would have put much more into your post than this. I have no knowledge of Florida law but I do know me. As Governor in this situation I would have used every power under my command to stop this. A stronger 'Force of Arms' than what was under my command would have had to surface in order to force this girl to be starved to death!

I would have been armed and standing at the door. Yeah, talk is cheap, I know, but there are some things that some people cannot endure without personal action.

Frank, please share some deeper thoughts other than your simple question.

If you choose not to, so be it. Thank you for your post anyway.

-Elliott.

Well, Jeb’s performance during the Terri Schaivo days proved he is not Christian, so perhaps he recognizes something?
