Gary Bauer, one of America's leading pro-life and pro-family activists, endorsed Ted Cruz on Friday. In doing so, Bauer became one of many evangelical Christian leaders who have thrown their support behind the senator from Texas. Bauer explained:
"Ted Cruz is a courageous conservative who has built a consistent record on the issues that matter most. He has fought for religious liberty at home and abroad. He believes all of our children should be welcomed into the world and protected by the law. Ted knows that government is too big and that taxes and regulations are too high. He will rebuild our military strength and pursue a foreign policy that repairs our frayed alliances. Ted Cruz understands that Israel is our friend and that Iran is our enemy. He understands that border security is national security. Last, but certainly not least, Ted Cruz is committed to restoring the rule of law and repealing President Obama's outrageous executive orders."
There's a reason why Bauer, James Dobson, Bob Vander Plaats, and a host of other largely Protestant conservative leaders have endorsed Cruz: he's the Biblical choice for president. Cruz's father, Rafael Cruz, explained two years ago what that phrase -- the Biblical choice -- means:
The Bible, Cruz went on to explain, tells you exactly how to vet a politician. He turned to Exodus 18:21 and made his case. Moses is in the wilderness trying to govern the Israelites, where his father-in-law gives him leadership advice: âMoreover you shall select from all the people able men, such as fear God, men of truth, hating covetousness; and place such over them to be rulers of thousands, ruler of hundreds, rulers of fifties, and rulers of tens.â

Yeah, I’m sure God would rather we elect a criminal who brags about buying influence with politicians. He can’t get through a speech without using profanity. He is full of pride and has not a shred of humility.
agree.
well I don’t know what an evangelical is and I don’t know what their religion might be but Glenn Beck is a Mormon so maybe its like Mormonism..
But I’m a Christian and I don’t do what the Mormon religion tells Beck to believe and do...
I watched the Glenn Beck for President and Ted Cruz for his Little Mongrel Dog Rally yesterday...
No thank you...
....Yet it is Mr. Trump has been having the BIG rallies which would make those Sen. Cruz have look TINY. That is NOT a good sign.
So essentially, if you’re a REAL Christian, you’ll vote for the candidate I tell you to vote for.
No thanks, Michael.
Taking one’s religion seriously does not imply or necessitate supporting a candidate who practices that religion.
I speak as one who belongs to the religion supposedly practiced by Mario Cuomo, William Brennan, Nancy Pelosi, Ted Kennedy, etc.
God is the judge.
I think it is fairly simple. If Trump wins, we continue down the path we are on now, meaning going along without God in the equation.
If Cruz wins, maybe there is hope for our Country.
In the general election, I have no problem saying that Christians must vote for the Republican, because the Republican party is more-or-less pro-life, while the Baby-Killing Pary is for Baby-Killing.
I’m Christian, but I am voting for Cruz because of his conservatism.
It is obvious that Trump is not serious about Christianity, but I’ve met many a scumbag who was a dedicated Christians and many a heathen who were honorable men. Not a terrible amount of overlap in that, sadly.
“There’s a reason why Bauer, James Dobson, Bob Vander Plaats, and a host of other largely Protestant conservative leaders have endorsed Cruz: he’s the Biblical choice for president. “
There is no “Biblical choice for President.”
This is why the majority of evangelicals are favoring Trump.
“Men of truth”???
What about that ad saying Trump bulldozed a little old lady’s house? What about voting for the Corker bill, and then campaigning against it?
“But don’t try to say Christians must vote one way or another.”
I once read a book wherein the author would state about every third page — human beings are insane. Maybe he was on to something.
As in:
The proof that your are a “true” conservative is if you agree with me. The proof that you belong to the “true” church is if you attend the one I prefer. All “right thinking Americans” think like I do. It goes on forever.
Why does anyone vote for or even put up with the nomination of politicians who don't even acknowledge the absolute basic level of moral decency???
Unfortunately all these other groups have been simply voting for people to clean the streets and keep the sewers running (and give them government money). They live in sequestered quasi-theocratic ethnic ghettos and get along famously with the most radical and immoralist politicians. They don't understand that not everyone has a ghetto to hide in and some of us can't afford to vote simply to keep the streets clean. If we vote for the wrong person, they come after us.
Everyone else still thinks rednecks are paranoid and want to "hang" everyone else "from lampposts." They've been told any concern for moral character in politicians is just an excuse for nativist redneck supremacy. One day those groups will find their good friends the atheist politicians invading their little ghettos and coming for them as well. Of course, by that time us rednecks will probably have been dealt with, to no one's objection.
What was it Pastor Niemoller said?
Let me ask you a question - I understand both sides of this - but, I also look at the history in the Bible. When God CHOSE Nebuchadnezzar to capture the Israelites and bring them to Babylon, was not God in control? Did God have a purpose? Yes. Just as God struck down Nebuchadnezzar when his heart was filled with pride, and after living like a wild beast, he lifted his eyes and acknowledged the God of Heaven, who gives kingdoms to those whom He wills. So I believe that Trump can be for this time, for a purpose, and God Almighty CAN break him - without human intervention.
So each person should vote their conscience. If they believe God will lead Cruz through the general and overcome the massive onslaught that will be against him, then Amen. If they believe it is not Cruz’ time, but that he could be a mighty stalwart in the Senate, and work with Trump to effect change where they both agree, even swallow his pride and be a guiding light to Trump, then so be it.
Whether it by Cyrus or Darius - who God used while Daniel was entrusted with all of their kingdoms, then so be it.
As opposed to Donald Trump's non-cult religion where he never has to ask for forgiveness, of course.
With all respect...not a chance.
Cruz might win WY, TX, TN but that is about it.
Most polls say Cruz is -4 in Texas
More “if you’re a true X you’ll vote like I tell you to” nonsense.
Yeah. I guess I want to clarify my position. I think there is a better choice, one that aligns with Christian values more than other choices. I am all for pointing out the issues and how they line up. What I think does more harm than good is the “you must vote for this candidate if you are a true Christian” argument. Frankly if you sub out “conservative” I think it is fine. There is one front runner who is conservative and one who is not. I would not go to the Christian label tactic because it taints something precious and thereby does residual damage. I think it is great for Christians to debate political issues in the light of Scriptural principles. That is a protected right. When you go further and connect true Christianity with a particular candidate (even if issue for issue the candidate is the most sound) it risks big unintended consequences. It also sort of snatches that conscience process from the individual.
Compare it to parenting that is so protective it never allows the child to err, but never allows the child to develop either. The individual conscience as it applies to voting is a precious treasure that should be promoted. Also the Christian gospel is a precious treasure that should not be politicized. So the danger is in the collateral damage to those two precious gems.
