Democratic presidential hopeful Bernie Sanders on Sunday dismissed concerns that he can't win a general election.
Responding to comments from Sen. Claire McCaskill (D-Mo.), who said he is unelectable, Sanders said he would beat Republican primary front-runner Donald Trump "badly" in a head-to-head matchup.
"Well, what I say to her is that if she would look at the matchups that are taking place between Bernie Sanders and Donald Trump right now, she would find that we were 15 points ahead of him nationally," Sanders said on NBC's "Meet the Press."

Sanders would never win. Trump would repeat Reagan and Nixon landslides. Bernie would lose the E C 529-6. He’d carry Vermont and DC.
Go Bernie! Kick Hitleries ugly azz and go for it.
And in December 1979, Carter was leading Reagan 62% to 38%, or something like that.
Sanders must beat Hillary first. Looks like Obama will help his friend Hillary stay out of jail. Obama never thought the laws were important anyway.
Bernie will be destroyed in the general. Democrats know that.
It isn’t even necessary to debate the point as if he has a shot.
However, I want the democrats in the primary to hand this fool every delegate based on his fantasy.
Rather than electing Bernie, why don’t all the rich Dems just start breaking down their estates and giving it to whoever they find downtown on the street corners? Same thing and it would save time.
That’s the face of a crazy old commie.
Sanders certainly would attract many many MANY more votes than Hillary the Liar, that’s for sure
but whether even old ‘charismatic’ Bernie the Red, even with his large enthusiastic base, whether he could beat a big-time TV idol like Trump.. I just don’t know. Trump is very popular and also has tons of money to go with it
I have no doubt at all that what Sanders is saying it true. He would beat Trump like the loud empty drum he is in the General Election.
One on one, Trump loses to almost anyone. He only wins when he can get a plurality of LIVs. But the beguiled LIVs are not numerous enough to get him though a one-on-one election.
This is Cruz’s present problem. Just like in past Republican elections the conservatives split their votes and allow the liberal to slip through. This time it’s a little different because the liberal isn’t one of the POGe’s pre-selected, but never mind they have someone they can live with, someone they can deal with to further their agenda without significant resistance.
It’s over folks; unless there is a wholesale diminution of the field and soon, Trump will pull a Dole-Romney and once again the conservative wing will be crushed.
The last time I told myself that an openly socialist candidate could never be elected president in the USA was 2008.
And now Bloomberg (another Socialist) may throw in his hat.
The only reason why Sanders is doing so well is because the DNC is purposely having these debates during times where they know NO ONE will watch them. Once they have an actual audience where people hear Sanders spew his 90 percent tax agenda, and how he will decide if a person has too much money in their bank account and a single payer system, Sanders won’t win I dont care how many idiotic freeloaders are in this country people will look at their bank account and see if they agree if Sanders can go into it and have himself a field day
